Test tones, then on with familiar pop music and distorted audio (sounds like RF getting into the audio). M ancr after each song. Never QSLed for his last broadcast...by jtart - Free Radio Logs
At 1625 UTC I have The Lawn and Garden Show with a M ancr taking phone calls. Gives (888) 256-1080. Strong and clear on the Alinco DX-70TH and 1/2-wave groundplane.by jtart - Other logs
No sign of Radio Sultanate of Oman. All India Radio came on at 1610 with tone, then haunting IS (at first I thought it was Iran!). Program started at 1615Z with M and F talking. This xmsn is supposed to be in DRM but sounds like plain old AM. Quite weak and fadey. Never heard them on 15140 before...by jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
Tuned in just in time for the end of the broadcast. Heard a government PSA for reading, a M gave the ID, and a YL said, "Why do you do this to your father and me? The FCC's gonna come down here and we're gonna lose the g.d. house!" Then gone. Good one! ;) Nice signal into WNY.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Here's my QSL card from Bangladesh Betar. Took an email follow-up but was much faster than Swaziland!by jtart - QSLs
Here's my QSL card from TWR Swaziland. Only took 611 days! And three follow-ups...by jtart - QSLs
Tuned in to hear some old radio drama about a mummy's curse, then some kick-ass rock & roll. Frequent IDs, some of them hard to understand, and an outlook.com email addy. Off after tolling bells at 0100 UTC. Good signal into WNY.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
6935 AM - possible Radio Appalachia with bluegrass/hillbilly music; audio seems overdriven. Off 0015Z. 6950 AM - Voice of Pearl Harbor (KVPH) with audio clips of the sneak attack and relavent music. S7 to S8.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Great news, Chris! Now you have some time for radio "work"! ;)by jtart - General radio discussion
Country music by Johnny Cash and others. ID in echo and "quiet numbskulls, I'm broadcasting" at 0015, then more mountain folk music: "Ballad of Hollywood Hillbillies" heavy on the banjo. S7 to S8 on peaks; decent audio. Apparently a live recording at Folsom. End and off 0041 UTC following "Amazing Grace".by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Got an email from "J J" saying "it must be them" and promising an eQSL shortly! Added to Spaceshuttle (Finland) this makes 15 pirate countries verified.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Word is that pirate DXer and HoF Board member Chris Lobdell had a mild heart attack sometime overnight and is in the hospital recovering. Please keep him in your thoughts.by jtart - General radio discussion
Tuned in late! Already in progress with Euro music and frequent IDs. Peaked S7 but averaging S4. As usual, I have to use "preamp 2" to make it all out. 2027 gave ID as R Spaceshuttle Int'l. At 2037 IDed and gave the yahoo.com email addy. 2055 ID with mailing address. Repeated IDs at 2100. Xmtr off at 2101 UTC.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Shortwave Ghost on 6925 kHz with overdriven AM signal. Somebody was on 6930U for a while, and when I checked back they were gone and someone else (Radio X?) was on 6935U. That one ended around 0015Z with a familiar interval signal but I didn't quite catch the ID. Could be a great weekend!by jtart - Free Radio Logs
This should be a little esoteric. Anyone have the early 1970s LP "Electric Sparks" by Roger Ruskin Spear, formerly of the Bonzo Dog Band (one Radio Animal should like!)? If so, I'd like to get a mp3 copy of the song "All By Yourself In The Moonlight". Any takers? Update, 26 May: I honestly thought I was the only person who remembered this one, but I have been proby jtart - The Swap Shop
I had such great success when I looked for Stevens and Grndig that I thought I'd try for something a bit older and, if possible, rarer. I'm looking for a digitized copy of a 45 rpm single from 1961. It's by The Four Preps and called "More Money For You And Me" which lampoons The Fleetwoods, The Hollywood Argyles, the Kingston Trio, and Dion and the Belmonts, all in five minutes. Finally received a full data photo card from TWR Swaziland for my reception on 9500 kHz. Only took 611 days and three follow-ups! Country #79 verified. I might make it to 100 before I die after all..!by jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
Weak but readable with "preamp2". YL vocal group at tune-in and still going strong. Silence at 2259, so maybe end of xmsn? This one's from Portugal. Anyone have a good email addy for them? The live.com addy doesn't work... Never mind; they use outlook.com.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
On for tuning. Anmt over music precisely at 2000Z. Dick talks at 03, followed by some odd music (maybe a German drinking song?). At 2009 a clear ID as Radio Spaceshuttle Int'l. Heard some sort of promo at 2017, then the audio quit until 2024. Signal about as good as last weekend but more T-storm QRN; S5 to S7 on the 756Pro and DX-A.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
I think one reason they turn off C-QUAM is that it sux! Noone likes the platform motion, even the owners. Besides, most AM stations are talk or sports - and who needs stereo for that? The one to use is Kahn, which is actually true stereo (ISB). PS: I sure hope you meant boost...by jtart - General radio discussion
Interesting article indeed. My take is that it's mostly promotion by folks who already believe in digital and want everyone else to buy into it. And notice that there wasn't a single mention of adjacent channel interference caused by digital signals..! But I suppose that's already well documented. Nothing is going to "revitalize" AM radio until or unless owners are willing to cougby jtart - General radio discussion
Quite weak with improving signal - and nobody else scheduled. Mostly vocal music with occasional announcements by M and YL. At 1250UTC the M said in English, "You are listening to ..... Radio" and gave a phone number that I could not copy. Beginning at 1258 and continuing until at least 1340 there was an acapella M vocal - probably a call to prayer. By 1340 the signal was deterioratingby jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
Xmtr on 1956 for tuning. 2001 started with a YL vocal group. 2003 a YL gave ID and a M gave mailing addy. 2009 several canned IDs. 2018 ID as Radio Spaceshuttle International and mailing addy. 2019 a YL gave frequencies in use. 2020 a bit o' "A Pirate's Life For Me" and into Hobart Radio Pirate News. Signal ranged from S2 to S5 on peaks, but there was plenty of understandable audio tby jtart - Free Radio Logs
The WRTH was received today - 12 days after being mailed. Really... TWELVE DAYS from central PA to WNY? USPS should be ashamed! That book has done more traveling that I have so far this year.by jtart - General radio discussion
I would, but I don't like cold weather... So what am I doing in WNY??by jtart - General radio discussion
Or: Why the Post Office is losing money... Let me start by saying that I do not purchase a new WRTH every year, like some folks do. So when a friend bought a new one and offered his old copy to me, I accepted. Hey, it's newer than the one I've been using so why not? It entered the postal system as Media Mail from his location in Central Pennsylvania on Tuesday, the 21st of March. Nothing waby jtart - General radio discussion
Came on at 1959UTC for tuning - and I could hear the signal without any preamp. Male vocalist in Dutch or German at 2000, then Dick Spacewalker talked and a YL vocal at 2004. Got an ID at 2007. Signal not much better than earlier transmissions Why do all the Euros bury their IDs in heavy echo? Makes it really hard to understand them! Later: Signal seemed to peak around 2040 with Steppinby jtart - Free Radio Logs
