Precisely. Just like AM stereo "saved" AM radio. Mega-ownership has destroyed both AM and FM broadcasting. People want to listen to something live, local, and relevant, not some generic, totally vanilla, voice-tracked from Phoenix or Chicago crap. And if they can't get it on the radio, they're gonna use their iPods and XM Sirius instead.by jtart - General radio discussion
All I see is a free-for-all to jam-pack the FM band with useless and unwanted crap - the same crap they put on the AM band that nobody listens to! And they've experimenting with IBOC digital as well, so most of those lower power translators won't give any coverage boost anyhow. The ultimate solution is for a broadcaster to give the audience something they WANT to listen to rather than what wilby jtart - General radio discussion
Heh-heh-heh... You're lucky, Bram; all we can get on 1090 is WBAL. Even KAAY would be something new.by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Off at 1642Z with pre-recorded ID: "Mike Radio ... Your Radio ... ".by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Obviously a NAm relay of the Parody Parade with Wierd Al and other artists. A bit noisy and some fading but quite listenable. Certainly beats "Sunday Night" on Radio Australia..! Had me ROTFLMAO at "She Only Bitches When She Breathes"!! Off 1313Z with "Why do you do this to your Father and me? The FCC's gonna come down here and we'll lose the G D house!"by jtart - Free Radio Logs
M ancr (Mike?) in and out of the noise, clear pre-recorded ID at 1624, into YL singing group. Not much on the S meter but clearly audible. Ever so slightly on the low side of 15070 kHz.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
I'm also hearing one from the Flight 93 Crash Site Memorial (in Pennsylvania) but I haven't heard an ID yet.by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Booming S9+ signal with Dick Weed and more music I've never heard (Keep it up!!). Excellent audio, too. It's WIDE filter time again... Pre-recorded ID at 2324 UTC.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Haddum here in WNY with a good signal. Repeated the first note of Beatles "I Feel Fine" over several minutes, then began with the full song. Off w/ NA. No amnts at all.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Absolutely KILLER signal into WNY with a bunch of oldies I haven't heard for a long time... Stones, It's A Beautirful Day, I'm gonna guess a "throwback" show but I'm probably way off the mark. 10 over S9 on the R-75 and 150-foot longwire; 20 over on the Pro and DX-A. Rockin' with the WIDE filters!by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Xmitting from Meyerton, South Africa, in English. News about Uganda and other African nations. Good signal into WNY. Sked is 1700-1755 UTC.by jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
Came up out of the grumble with hurricaine prep messages and occasional mentions of Hudson County. No such county in PA, MD, or SC, so where? Faded out completely or went off at 0006Z. A quick Google check shows Hudson County in New Jersey, right across from NYC. Ya learn something every day!by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Today was "Talk Like a Pirate Day"! Arrrrrrgh. mateys; shiver me timbers...by jtart - General radio discussion
Duetsche Welle in Hausa on 15275; Hausa is on from 1800 to 1900Z. Beaming from Madagasgar with a decent signal, S5 to S9 with minor fading into WNY. They're here in English from 0500 to 0600 from the same site. Almost the only way to get DW anymore (now that they shut down the Rwanda site), and you get Madagasgar at the same time!by jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
Just received a full data eQSL for a Radio Spaceshuttle xmsn on 24 May - 84 days elapsed time. I hadn't realized that he was buying time on Bulgarian xmtrs. so NOT Finland for a new Pirate Country. Drat... Still, new station QSL'd. And we now know that the eQSLs, at least, are in the pipeline. Thanks, Dick! FYI: This eQSL is for my most recent report; I have reports out as far back as 05by jtart - QSLs
Barely made it into WNY in the solar storm; right at the noise level for most of the xmsn. Finally got a couple clear IDs just before they left the air.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
In English but with very weak signal into WNY. M & W talking until 1745 then music until 1756. Into IS until 1800, then into German.by jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
If you tune to 6802 LSB it sounds more like "Songs of the Humpback Whale" but I think they're drifting slowly.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Came on with M and F giving IDs, then anthem followed by M giving a formal ID and into martial music. Signal not great in summer QRN and short, choppy QSB, but good enough to copy at first. Almost complete fade-out by :08.by jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
Weak but completely readable with what sounds like a Military Channel documentary about World War 2. No ID given so far. Off 0041Z with M repeating possible "FDR 536" (or something similar). Others reported it as "SCR536".by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Fading up occasionally with pop music, then disappearing for long periods of time. Signal maybe S4 on peaks but readable due to low QRN level. M ancr at 0030. I believe this is Dutch. Gradually improved a little until off at 0055Z with "good night."by jtart - Free Radio Logs
P.S.: They were back on with a different test a while later. This time I recognized some of the AC-DC they were playing!by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Another oldtimer returns? Nice USB signal came on at 0052 with AC-DC. 0056 a Brit-sounding M ancr said "This is pirate radio station Brockett99 testing on this frequency. This is only a test" twice, and into more AC-DC. Another identical ID at 0059 and more AC-DC. At 0103 a YL gave the same ID and more AC-DC. At 0106 the YL gave a gmail addy "for all correspondence" three tby jtart - Free Radio Logs
Tuned in just in time to hear a couple IDs and "hope you enjoyed the broadcast" then gone, dangit! Signal was weak-ish but clear. Wish I had heard more. QSL appreciated. Obviously I had the date wrong. 07/20!by jtart - Free Radio Logs
From the College of Knowledge with modulation that's just plain painful! I'm guessing severe overdriving; it's certainly not pleasant to listen to. Rock, pop, and rap with frequent IDs and a gmail address. Haven't heard RFR for quite some time...by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Unfortunately, WA2FNQ simply goes through the installation steps - he doesn't mention whether he had any problems getting the radio to work after he installed it. It would have been really useful for him to continue the narrative... D00d: Does the '745 have a "remote" jack on the rear apron? If so, you could install a "Universal QSYer" keypad. I suspect not, however. And whby jtart - General radio discussion
Currently on 1300 kHz with 500 watts day and a whopping 83 watts at night. The official launch date for the new frequency is tomorrow, 14 July. They'll run 10kW days and 1kW nights. I heard 'em testing on 29 June from 2015 ET with a Triple A ballgame, but haven't heard 'em since. Probably be a pest once they get going...by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Especially if she brings that covetted Rejection-Rejection card, yes?by jtart - General radio discussion
Decent AM signal with really nice anti-war montage and occasional IDs. At the moment (0028Z) The Tubes "White Punks On Dope". S7 to S8 into WNY. Off 0035 with repeated IDs.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
