Tuned in to an extremely weak signal; I could hear music waayyy in the background but nothing else. Around 0130 the signal improved and I heard part of an old Jack Benny radio program, which was interrupted by an ID of "X minus 1" and a gmail addy, then gone about 0135. Never better than a S4 into WNY.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Came on a few minutes after PIR went off, and with much the same signal. Ancd as the "2015 Holiday Special". Decent signal into WNY. Off 2209 following the Trans Siberean Orchestra with "Christmas is Here".by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Repeat of the "Jay" xmas show with the Lucy & Desi parody. End and off 2134UTC. Fair to good signal into WNY.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Has anybody received a QSL from Free Thinker Radio for his broadcast on November 26th, 2014? I haven't seen any reports of any. How about Radio Spaceshuttle? He said he'd be sending out QSLs and eQSLs by August or September (I did receive one - for the most recent of five reports), but I haven't seen any reports of any other listeners receiving them. He may have a pile of reports, but how longby jtart - General radio discussion
*Almost* every year. I remember one year he had to miss it (and I was there)...by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Tuned in to hear a parody skit of Lucy and Desi going to Mount Kisco (with Ethel and Fred who were never heard). Really well done skit complete with sound-track audience laughter! Decent signal into WNY. Ended with ID and off at 1400 UTC.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Still going at 0050 UTC. Signal slightly above the noise threshold. Fortunately, the noise threshold is lower than usual because of the wintery white stuff we've been getting most of the day. However, there is some QRM from the staccato "machine gun" radar (?) (and it would seem to me that 43m is a poor place for radar). LR has been on quite frequently lately; I hope he's being carefby jtart - Free Radio Logs
Various xmas mx, including bluesy stuff and "Christmas Is Here" on piano; really quite a variety. ID at 2236 but all I could catch was "_____ Shortwave", and off. Other reporters said it was Capt Morgan, so who am I to argue? Fair to good signal into WNY.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Electronica/techno/house music almost at threshold level tonight. ID heard at 0002 UTC.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Just received an eQSL from Brockett99 for a test xmsn I heard way back on July 25th (I didn't send the report until a couple days ago). Thanks to Ernie Scar!by jtart - QSLs
Just heard a Captain Morgan Shortwave ID mixing in with Liquid Radio's broadcast. Two AM stations on at the same time on the same frequency..?by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Must be oldies night, cuz that's what they're playing. Clear ID about 0000Z. Otherwise the signal is not strong into WNY, and there's some QSB.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Came on with YL saying "This is Green Light Radio" and into an instrumental medely of xmas tunes beginning with "We Three Kings". At :41 there was a YL brief vocal. :42 the YL IDed again, and into "Driving Thru The Snow in My Rusty Chevrolet" by male singer. :45 the signal disappeared. Not a great signal into WNY - S2 to S4 max. But readable. QSL appreciated! p.s.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Received this afternoon an eQSL from Channel X for a broadcast reported here on thefrn on May 23rd. That's 207 days. Thanks Keith X!by jtart - QSLs
Gone on its' way to a new home! Yes, I'm selling my venerable R-75, serial# 002930. Comes with the AD-55A power pak, owner's manual, MB-23 carrying handle and feet, and the original box, which is in new condition. I've made three minor modifications (all are easily reversible). I replaced the 1st IF 15 kHz xtal filter with a 9 kHz xtal filter which really tightens up the front end, makingby jtart - The Swap Shop
Apparently they were in there, but they were inaudible in WNY for quite a while. KBGG (Iowa) was clear for a while, then I heard an apparent HAR, "The Voice of Arlington" that I assume was from Virginia, not Texas. First time I've heard that one. By about 0015Z, WRCR was back fighting for domination. Seems MW conditions are improving!by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Big S9 to +1-db signal into WNY with oldies music. Sounds too good to be a pirate, actually, but it is unidentified. At 1805 YL robot voice said, "Thank you for listening. And thank you for the radio report on (another website)." Then into SSTV until 1811, when YL repeated the announcement and gone without ID. I've heard her before but can't put my finger on where...by jtart - Free Radio Logs
A "just barely audible" signal with occasional bits of march music heard. Peaks were just above the noise threshold; most of the time I needed to use USB and slightly de-tune to hear anything. No announcements that I could detect. Apparently gone by 1545UTC.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Non-stop "classic" and old rock peaking up to S7 into WNY. Finally heard an ID or two at 1548 UTC as "THX-1-1-3-8 at 25 watts" by YL. Not certain if that was the end of the xmsn as I had to leave.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
I can just barely detect a carrier (in USB mode) at 2007 UTC. Obviously not near WNY.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Nice fidelity for USB. Mostly unknown music (which is normal for them) and some pre-recorded IDs. Not terribly strong into WNY (S3 to S5) but pleasant to listen to. Ended with a really strange piece of music and off at 0116Z.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Cos: Thank you so much for keeping the FRN alive! For a while I was afraid it was going to disappear completely, but you've saved it. Now if we can get a few more people to start using it again... Best, jtaby jtart - General radio discussion
Peaking around S5 in the QRN with some QSB into WNY. Has been playing uninterrupted rock and alternative music since I tuned in with no announcements or IDs. Haven't recognized any of the tracks yet. Maybe someone testing? If so, the modulation sounds good on the signal peaks. There was some talking at 1924Z, but I didn't detect any ID. Then into some very strange music! 1932Z: "You arby jtart - Free Radio Logs
I can only detect a faint carrier in WNY @2000Z.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
S5 to S7 into WNY. Hard rock and metal music, sounding slightly overdriven at t-in but apparently adjusted while I was listening. "All Aboard" from Black Sabbath's "Crazy Train" x2 heard at 0204. SSTV at 0215. Ended with "Crazy Train". Followed by CW: "PW". QSL appreciated.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Occasionally rising out of the background noise to as high as S5 to S6 with classic rock. Clear recorded ID at 0041. Another at 0049Z followed by The Who "Magic Bus". Seem to be getting stronger into WNY, but still complete fade-outs. Good to hear 'em again!by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Obviously off frequency, unfortunately in unID language. It's not English, French, or Spanish; at times it sounds like Russian or Portuguese and at other times not. Not sure if it was "pop" music I heard or soft religious music, but the talk certainly sounds like it's rel-oriented. Signal S6 to S9 into WNY with some slight QSB. Still strong at 2343Z. It would appear that it's Portuguby jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
The article I read on another site was dated 20 Oct 15 but I'm not certain that was the day he died. John R. Vodenik was an engineer at the old VoA Bethany (OH) site and was active in its dismantling. He was very active in the local amateur radio groups and attended a few Winter SWL Fests to represent VoA. As I recall, after Bethany was closed John was transferred to the Delano (CA) VoA site to aby jtart - General radio discussion
