I didn't notice it earlier today, but now it's blasting away in RTTY.by jtart - Other logs
Really loud and prominent in WNY - especially with nothing else on the band. Really stands out!by jtart - Other logs
Looks like HRO is hiring *some* of the AES folks and remodeling the Milwaukee store (maybe others, too). AES' URL will forward to HRO after the end of July, when AES officially closes. As to DXE, I haven't bought from them (yet) but they have an excellent reputation for customer service and quick shipping, unlike some of the other on-line stores. Yes, the prices may be a little high but they'lby jtart - General radio discussion
Just got back from the PO with the latest edition of the Pirate Radio Annual for 2015-16. Great job as usual by Mr. Yoder, this one containing 225 pages of good reading. Great research on that WMG story. I'd never heard of that one before. I know what I'll be doing for the next few evenings!by jtart - General radio discussion
Fair signal in T-storm QRN but useable. Xmtr came on at 0456Z with test tone. Beginning 0457 a repeating loop of gentle instrumental music and the amnt "From Zambia to the World, this is Voice of Hope - Africa". 0500 M ancr with complete ID, then into religious vocal group. This is the former CVC site near Lusaka, Zambia. Report sent.by jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
Not a thing on 13960 at 1815Z. Things are pretty dead on the higher frequencies.by jtart - Broadcast announcements
Nothing heard at 1815. The scheduled times are a bit early for NAm, darnit...by jtart - Broadcast announcements
The Alinco DX-70TH xcvr is a small mobile rig, developing 100 watts across HF and 6 meters. This one has the 60m/MARS/CAP mod done and comes with operating manual, full-length fused DC power cord, hand mic, mobile mounting bracket, hardware, and original box. I've used it for about two years and haven't had any problems with it. This is not a new radio and does show some scuffs but no gouges. Askby jtart - The Swap Shop
S9 into WNY with old-ish rock. "Get Down Tonight" at 2350Z. Some choppy fading.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
That makes about as much sense as breasts on a boar hog... And doesn't that run contrary to most of the huxters?by jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
Booming into WNY at 10 over S9 and with a great USB signal. Wide variety of musical genres - wide enough to include Cab Caloway! The Drunken DJ sounds a little muffled on the mic (maybe too close to it?). Great entertainment for a Wedneseve.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
I was unable to connect to HFU just a few minutes ago; it didn't even try to connect! Crash or maintenance? That's not like them at all... BELAY THAT! Just went back and got right in. Musta been a glitch somewhere. Now explained: Server updates. I must have tried at *just* the correct moment.by jtart - General radio discussion
On again today, Sunday, 24 April, 1945+. Just announced 30 to 35 watts and seems quite strong for the power and the time of day; signal is pretty stable at S9+. More talk at 1955, discussing how he runs the station from a laptop. ID as Red Beacon Radio at 1957 UTC. M ancr sounds like he's from NYC or NJ area, or possibly around Boston. Another clear ID at 2001Z and talk about NVIS and whby jtart - Free Radio Logs
Audible again at 1740UTC, 23Apr16, weak but readable with brass band. Apparently this is Red Beacon Radio, and they only ID at sign-on and sign-off.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
The R-75 was getting a little old (at least 10 years) and I imagine some parts were getting hard to source. It certainly was a good receiver, and with a few tweaks, it was a great receiver! I loved mine. But for once I'm ahead of the curve: I recently sold off my R-75 (just before they discontinued it) and got a non-transmitting Icom 756 Pro3 as a receiver; and let me tell you, I will never goby jtart - The Workshop
Weak, but clear, with oldies; S3 to 4. "Lonesome Loser" at 1838, followed by Stones. Long pauses between tracks. Currently (1846) "Legs". Signal now runing S7 to S9! Using the Wide filter - sounding good! Seems to have a bad or loose connection somewhere; every once in a while the audio comes *way* up (but clean, no sign of distortion), then drops down again. Maybe intenby jtart - Free Radio Logs
Originally they were *the* station on 1630 here in WNY, and I did listen to them in the evenings. Now the frequency is more of a jumble, with WRDW dominating occasionally and KCJJ winning most of the time. I've never heard the other stations - or, at least, IDed them - but Wyoming looks possible...by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Not with 30 watts of AM at less than optimum times. To clarify, *I* haven't. I bet Chris Lobdell hasn't, or Chris Smolinski either!by jtart - Broadcast announcements
Interesting... The new IRCA HAR/TIS list shows WQBY206 in Arlington, VA, operated by the Office of Emergency Management. I would assume the FCC database might be more current, but..?by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Right after WRCR dropped to night power I heard occasional bits of a HAR station fading in and out through their signal. At one such peak it was mentioned that they were in Arlington, VA. Never did get a callsign. Hard to believe that this is a ten-watt xmtr with a restricted length antenna! Is this new?by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
According to <short-wave.info> this is 500 kW, and I *think* they said from Bangalore. Likely: Putting a pretty darned good S9 into WNY as I abuse my fingers. Subcontinental music and talking in English at 2130.by jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
how can you be in two places at once... when you're not anywhere at all?by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Almost buried in my local QRM, Radio Azteca - 6925AM, 04/10, 1340-1350(ish)*. Strangely familiar music from Rocky & Bullwinkle and the dulcet voice of Bram Stoker made it through the buzzing. Off around 1350Z (I was distracted by a phonecall and didn't note the exact time). Great to hear 'em back! Are *all* the old stations rising Phoenix-like?by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Came on around 2330. DJ Dick Weed has been rockin' with no Stavin tonight. Dick always finds music I somehow haven't heard before. Killer USB signal into WNY - 10 to 20 db over S9!by jtart - Free Radio Logs
What Bram said. On with duplicated IDs. Fair to good signal into WNY. Good to hear them again.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
World of DX Media etc. with lots of fictional tips. Nice S6-8 signal into WNY. Later in the show there were some deep fades - always at critical moments (punch lines, etc.). Off 1244Z after giving Belfast drop for reports and "Why do you do this to your Father and I? The FCC is gonna come down here and we'll lose the G D house!"by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Just barely above the noise into WNY. Interesting listening, for sure!by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Nice AM signal with 80s and 90s rock including Journey's "Wheel In The Sky". Clean modulation. If this is the same rig I heard earlier with KULP, you fixed the problem! No voice anmts heard (yet). They were S9 when I originally wrote this but have since dropped into a black hole. Heard some AC/DC and other metal (maybe Black Sabbath?).by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Various strange music and stuff prior to 2100Z. At 2104 M UDed as KULP - "Kulpsville Universally Loves Pirates" and into a Pancho Villa show (sounds like the newest one?). Good signal but lots of RF in the audio. Off 2115 after another ID.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
