From what I've read elsewhere, it's most likely a switching power supply - and it's probably right here in the shack. They radiate a "warbling" sound. And they drift. And I have a bunch of them in-house. One day when it really irritates me, and I don't have the computer turned on, I'll try turning off the UPS to see if it's the laptop power supply. It is located quite near the antennby jtart - The Workshop
It would seem like it was just a matter of time. They've been fighting for funding for several years now. Too bad - they were my first SWBC QSL card! Nothing like having breakfast to the sounds of the Kookoburra and "Waltzing Matilda"...by jtart - General radio discussion
I agree with a few of the posters: AM radio is already dead. There *is* no "revitalization"... It all started when the FCC was forced (by Congress) to allow more stations on the band and was only made worse by allowing a broadcasting group to own hundreds of stations. To increase profits, all those stations are voice-tracked from a single studio and there is no "local" contby jtart - General radio discussion
"Make Your Liver Quiver" with some nice blues music and M ancr, At one point said, "You know where to send reports..." but didn't give any addy. QSL would be nice...by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Weak but clear in near noiseless condx. Bits from the old Hee-Haw show including Alde Lang Syne to repeated sign-off anmt, which was followed by a CW ID. I finally heard the ID correctly! ;)by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Started with a weak and noisy signal into WNY but improved throughout the xmsn. Apparently original CBS Radio recordings of network broadcasts on the day Pearl Harbor was bombed. Ancient-sounding music and radio audio, but quite interesting. (When was the last time you heard the President being cheered as he entered Congress?) Thanks for the program.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Well produced program with oldies, M and F ancrs with Brit accents wishing all listeners a great xmas, but haven't been able to get the ID yet. Weak (S2-3) but in the clear with nearly zero noise level. Later: Apparently Cool AM Radio. In USB. How ironic...by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Rcvd a full data eQSL #392 for this morning's xmsn in about eight hours - and a nice note from "Z" as well.by jtart - QSLs
On 1952, off 2002Z. Same three song set. This time at s/off I clearly heard "W-J-F-K, Whiskey, Juliet, Bravo, Kilo, W-J-F-K". Slightly better signal into WNY; about S5.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Same brief program as 1500Z with same indistinct ID repeated at s/off. Sounded like WJBK this time. Since the program is NOT quite the usual WJFK fare, it's a good guess. Fair signal into WNY.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Now signal on with Bobby Hebb's "Sunny", "PT109", and Dion's "Abraham, Martin, and John". About S4 with deep fades into WNY. Off 1508Z after faint anmt. Possible WJFK but the anmt didn't sound like it here. If so it's the first time in a few years I've heard 'em.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Pop music, complete ID with Gmail and BRS addys at 1433Z. Signal from less than S5 to 10 over S9 into WNY. This station never fails to impress me with their homebuilt xmtrs and excellent audio! Great to hear them again. Off 1454Z after the "You've got the last channel you'll ever need..." ID.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Prior to 1800 UTC TWR was audible from the Manzini, Swaziland, site. Fair sig, maybe S3. At 1800 Algeria came on with a S5 to S6 signal in Arabic with the Holy Qur'an until 1857*. Must have been a good day for Africa!by jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
Wonder where they all went? They certainly aren't all on that other site...by jtart - General radio discussion
Heard in WNY very weakly during this xmsn. Must have been skipping quite long. They were just above the noise threshold.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Yes, a pair of microphones for your studio. These are the Radio Shack version of the Shure Brothers SM58. They sound great and are ruggedly built; meant for live performances. Lo-Z (200 ohms). Come with original boxes, protective pouches, stand clips, mic cables (XLR male to quarter inch phone plug), and spec sheets. These are lightly used but, as the photo shows, look brand new and were neverby jtart - The Swap Shop
Very strong signal here with pop music (mostly hip-hop), s/off anmt cut off the ancr of the music show. A check of short-wave.info doesn't show any VoA xmsns on the frequency at any time. Mistake or xmtr warm-up?by jtart - Other logs
to the Chicago Cubs who broke a 108-year title drought last night! I wuz rootin' fer Cleveland... (sigh)by jtart - General radio discussion
After ROR went off, I noticed a weak CW beacon(?) sending a repeating "V" with an interval of about a 3-count. It's clearly a V on signal peaks, but every once in a while it sounds like a "4" or an "S", indicating that it may be hand-sent. It gives me no reading on the S-meter on the Pro3 here in WNY, but it is definitely there. It only seems to be audible in USB modby jtart - Other logs
Mine arrived in a matter of hours. Great looking eQSL. Love the "Flying Chicken Funeral Home" bit - a chicken with three legs! Thanks much, Ernie Scar!by jtart - QSLs
Only slightly better signal into WNY. Standard disco-type music with a weak to fair strength. Too weak to determine if the audio is still distorted.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Heard in WNY with a good signal. Much tribal music and tribal announcers, "reservation weather", and such. Occasional IDs as Brockett 99. Off 1448Z.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Heard in WNY as well with a decent signal. OM with a disertation on cats including barn cats and how cats were domesticated. Kinda interesting. Overall production reminded me of Undercover Radio. Off without ID.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
M ancr at s/on and into polka music. Fair to poor signal into WNY, along with some pesky QRM.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Seemed to go on forever! Various stuff with The Crusher, George Carlin's "Stuff", lotsa rambling talk including how he likes to broadcast. Toward end of broadcast there was a loud "rasper" nearly covering him, maybe high speed RTTY (e.g.: military). Off with (finally) a clear ID as "Nuttin' On Shortwave" and the song Nothing From Nothing.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
S4 to S5 into WNY. Sounds like a series of old propaganda films with no IDs. One about accepting rides from homosexuals, one about "accidental habits" and changing them, one about gender expectations in life and personal dissatisfaction with them (get her pregnant was the solution), and one about "improving your personality" - or how to get what you want. Movie audio was a bitby jtart - Free Radio Logs
Can't make out what's going on. Lots of talking including some IDs that I missed and some waayyy overdriven music. Now (2332Z) began Crooked Man relay, then off. Voice was fairly clear but music was painful. Decent signal strength into WNY.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
From what I've read, "Well under $100." And a *very* neat looking radio. I may have to trade in my DX-398 for one of those!by jtart - The Workshop
Not heard here on 9580, 12065, or 12085 kHz Tuesday or Wednesday. They usually boom in here - except when Cuba relays CRI on 9570 for two hours and slops all over the band. I also didn't hear New Zealand this morning on 9700. But I doubt that this is conditions. Gotta wonder what's happening Down Under!by jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
Was looking for KNLS on 11870 (not heard) when I heard an English xmsn on 11865. Sounds like a domestic religious station with a YL host talking about news and issues with various commercials (including GEICO, internet addys and 800 numbers). Signal is weak and fadey - almost sounds like an image. So far (nearly 40 minutes of listening) no station ID heard. Nothing listed at Primetime Shortwave.by jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
