Odd, old-time clips at 2250. ID x2 at 2252 and gave gmail addy. Followed by My New Underpants ID giving Box 1 for reports. Very narrow audio, like he recorded all the clips off the air.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Received at the PO Box today: A full schedule and full data card from TWR Swaziland, for which I've been waiting more than two years. Unfortunately, the card is for a frequency that I did not log on a date and time I did not hear the station - and is made out to a Mr. Marcel Lecerf, whom I presume lives in France. I wonder if Mr. Lecerf received *my* card? I have to admire their organizaby jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
Believe it or not, it's a HP "all-in-one" printer that I picked up at WalMart a few years back for $20. I liked the price then; needed something inexpensive. The printing is good, it doesn't suck ink, and the scans are OK, so I'm pretty happy. There's only two little things that I don't really like: First, it scans a bit crooked and I haven't figured out how to compensate for that yeby jtart - The Swap Shop
I have the original three book set of Radio Database International in pretty good shape (considering the distance they've traveled with me) available if anyone needs them for their collection. This is the first edition, first printing of what later became known as Passpost to World Band Radio edited by Larry Magne and Tony Jones, and issued in 1984/85. Volume 1 is Int'l Broadcasting Edition, Vby jtart - The Swap Shop
Moments later I had a station with sports and another with oldies. Neither stayed on top for long. I have a hunch the Beverly, MA, station stays on day power frequently; 85 watts shouldn't give me the kind of signal I got last evening - especially given all the other stations on the frequency.by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Spanish from MA was on top a moment ago. Then some oldies from Amsterdam, NY. Now there's a gospel station from VA. I'm not hearing any French from Canada at the moment. But the jumble is 50 to 60 db or about S9.by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Apparently, they also do not verify... :(by jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
In todays' mail: A full data QSL card from Bangladesh Betar - 15105 for an email report on 27 Nov 14; 75 days total. Funny how that still haven't responded to my written report with US$2 sent back in 2013...by jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
Apparently noone else is going to hazard a guess, so here goes. The four AM rock stations in NYC in the late 1950s and early 60s were: WMCA - 570 WABC - 770 WINS - 1010 WMGM - 1050 WMGM was owned by the MGM record label to promote their stuff. They were sold to Storer sometime in 1962, regained their original call of WHN, and went EZ listening. I think they were WNEW for a while. Thenby jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Frankly, I think they had a lot of help in their failure: Automation that was never set up properly, for starters. You can't have program parts being interrupted by promos which are themselves being interrupted by ads which are themselves interrupted... Well, you get the picture. It reminded me of the old carousel automation systems of years back, which would glitch regularly. And in four montby jtart - General radio discussion
OK, you got the two easy ones... ;)by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Back in the last century, I used to listen to WKBW - 1520, Buffalo, at night, with either Tommy Shannon or Joey Reynolds. They were skywave, which meant that they often faded almost completely out. When they faded, I would listen to WMEX - 1510, Boston, with Arnie "Woo-woo" Ginsberg. Daytime it was WARM - 590, in Scranton. WNDR - 1260, Syracuse, was an alternate on a good day. The AM scene has certainly changed since I began DXing last century; I remember FOUR rock station on AM in NYC alone! By the mid-60s I think they were down to one, and then FM started to take over (remember "OR-FM"?). Wonder if anyone can name all four old-time AM rockers in NYC..?by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
I noticed that they were off the air mid-afternoon Tuesday, and when I checked in the evening they were broadcasting some religious program - something Global 24 said they would not do. The rumor is that they're gone, and in only four months! Now if Jeff will relinquish the use of the frequency...by jtart - General radio discussion
That "rushing air" you mention is IBOC digital audio (not the hot air from Rush Limbaugh!). Iy certainly has messed up DX on the band. NRC publishes their AM Log annually; it's definitely worth getting every few years.by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Very strong signal from Frederick Chopin Radio on 6940 in AM mode, playing Bartok and Brahms (wild guess ;) - classical piano music. ID by Male robot (that guy sounds familiar!) at about 0130. Sounds real good with the Wide filter! Slight QSB, not serious; no QRM or QRN. Nice and relaxing after ten days of chasing weak stations on 1560 kHz..! QSL appreciated. ID by YL robot 0140 and 0152. If anyone cares, I received the combined January/February 2015 issue of CQ on February 28th. Should've made it the combined January/February/March issue! As usual, all the articles I really wanted to read were NOT in the print edition... :(by jtart - General radio discussion
Bemused? Well, with darned good reason! This is the first time in my recollection that WQXR/WQEW has been off the air, and for a prolonged period of time at that. Of course we were going to mine the frequency! What did his lordship expect us to do..? Ignore the possibility?by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Damn! Well, it was a fun ten days while it lasted!!by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
There is a printed log, the NRC Log, if you're a member of either IRCA or NRC you can get it for a few bucks less than non members. It's published annually, but I don't know anyone (including myself) who buys it every year. I'm about to get a newer one; the one I have is getting hard to read with all the updates and changes scribbled in... ;)by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Mostly a jumble this morning. Had a country station which was replaced by a gospel station. Both unID. Probably WKIK and WSBV. 0645 ET WCNW signed on "for another day of broadcasting" One of my news/talkers appears to be WMRO, Gallatin, TN, also heard in the mess this morning. And, of course, the inevidible WKDO with "music for adults who never grow up"by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
WAGL is supposedly "Music of Your Life". WAHT is supposedly sports.by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Got something: News and weather beginning at 1730 ET. At 1735 the "John Henry" talk show began. 1750 an ad for pillow.com. Can't tell if it's sports oriented or not. Signal peaks while they're talking, but fades for IDs, of course! YSR? ESPN? Something else? And now WKDO is starting to encroach... Here's a strange one: Just after 1800 ET I had a strong (S9) station playing "Bby jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Tuesday evening never really opened up here. I had very low signals but could make out WKDO in the mush. Nuttin' else audible. This morning seemed a bit better but nothing really dominant. WKDO and WSBV were IDed. Maybe this evening will be better? We can hope...by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Just minutes ago, at 6:05 p.m. ET, I heard news "from the Plains Radio Network", then an ad for a eatery and weather. No ID, but could be a talker (minus phone calls). Maybe KTUI? Who or where is the Plains Radio Network?by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
About 4:15 p.m. ET a station surfaced with an ad for CDs from "CSN International"; 'twas WWYC, Toledo, OH, another religious station. That makes a clean sweep of Ohio...by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Your 7 a.m. s/on is most likely WCNW, in Ohio, another religious station. I had them Sunday afternoon with catholic mass, although they're not listed as being ETWN. The c&w could easily be WKIK; they're "Real Country". But they're not the only country station, so no way to be sure. Could also be WTNS, in Ohio. If you don't mind, I would like to hear that clip. I've heard Yahooby jtart - Medium Wave Logs
