Sideband. Cool old jazz and blues being played, weak to good signals in static noise, signal improving here in Pittsburgh. Got an ID at 0435, 'BOR, Blue Ocean Radio'. This is great soulful blues that mainstream stations just would not play, only underground, and with all this cool music, it would be nice if the operator could get on the microphone and talk about the songs a little. WBNY, good in local noise from the power lines. Modulation was strong, seems like they're using some kind of limiter to boost it. Wasn't that the station that ran 'Bestiality dial-a-date'? All of the furry animals will like it then.. ;) The Dead Milkmen know it's a Doors cover band.. Actually I've never heard this station, at most I've caught a couple of minutes at the end of a broadcast. I thought they were pretty revolutionary in their time, is it that they're more of a nostalgia station now? We probably need some eby Radio Animal - Free Radio Logs
I kind of like the idea of putting the magazines together, it's good to have a wide range of ideas to access, great discoveries can be made from that. I even used to get PopCom and CQ separately at times, one for the hobby and one for the tech. Cool, Commander Bunny had an article in CQ Plus, that's a good thing to have to kick it off! I didn't want to seem sarcastic with my post, if I did seem that way, I was hoping that someone would take the bait and not know it was me, and do a 'me too!' or 'I feel your pain' post.. :) I've been showing people my Dog side a lot, and it's true, I haven't had time for serious radio, but I hope to connect being a Dog with radio in some way if I have the opportunity. Man, I miss them too, that used to be a great radio station! I have many fond memories of them, even as far back as the shows on the odd frequency of 1621 khz in 1988. I agree Clobdell, I hope that they come back someday..by Radio Animal - General radio discussion
My New Underpants, part of the WBNY relay. Synth interval signal, like old Devo's sound, then the station name repeated with an echo effect with other spooky music, some of it reminding me of the Residents. 'It's driving me insane!' and other echoed sentences. The entire effect of the station was that of a kind of trance, psychedelic experience. My first time really hearing this station, signals were excellent in Pittsburgh PA, blowing away all of the local noise! I guess the band has opened up now, selective fading was moderate to high. I tuned in to talk of the Doctor seeing a white van and putting the transmitter away, and using a 1 kw mobile unit. Very interesting retrospective on Dr. Benway's history with radio, and how much aby Radio Animal - Free Radio Logs
Interesting article, and I would think that the FCC would be tough on station applicants being non-profit and knowing where the transmitter site is going to be located. I wouldn't expect less than having things shipshape, so that all of the applications could be processed smoothly. I would welcome an article on low power AM. LPFM is good, but not so viable in population centers where the FM baby Radio Animal - Other logs
RADIO WORLD "OTTAWA, Ontario — Unlicensed “pirate” radio stations are thriving in the Internet age, despite the fact that most people can now operate their own Web-based radio stations without risking arrest. “A vibrant pirate radio scene continues in the United States, and also in Europe and to a lesser extent in South America,” said George Zeller, a pirate radio listener/journalist fby Radio Animal - General radio discussion
I'm here thanks to a tip from Captain Ganja, burn one up to celebrate! Let's hope that this site catches on as a replacement, and hopefully you can get the database from the old site, it's historical. I like how this forum is minimal like the old one, and staying nice and clean. It's also fast too, so you have good software here or a decent processor at the host.
