Off with anthem (sometimes two of them) at 6 p.m. ET.by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Your religious station may be WSBV, South Boston, VA. I've heard them run right thru the ToH with programming. In fact, the only time I've heard 'em ID is at sign-off! I'd love to hear that blues station. 'course, I'd love to get some indication that my conservative talker is really KNZR, too...by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Still no WQEW/WFME, thank goodness! Mostly a mumble-jumble, but about 5:45 a.m. (ET) I heard a "15-60, _ _ _" slogan, where _ _ _ were three letters. The second letter sounded like "F" or "S". Naturally, there are no three-letter calls on 1560... Just after 8 a.m. ET I heard a station with news, weather, and birthdays, and a callsign that sounded like WZNZ (whichby jtart - Medium Wave Logs
I must have been listening at precisely the right moment; they sorta faded in for a couple CW IDs, then faded out. No sign of MTI today.by jtart - Other logs
WNWN is another one I haven't heard yet. I thought it might be a semi-local pest for you... I did hear a National Anthem and s/off at 8 p.m., but never caught the ID. WKDO seemed to drop power right then, too - but they don't have night power. I also had a female ancr with a call-in talk show that peaked a couple times, but never during a break. Also caught KLNG with religious programming. Stiby jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Heard a very weak and fadey SZX beacon on roughly 13563 kHz, 02/22, around 1957 UTC. Nowhere near as strong as GNK, which was also audible. SZX is located in Macomb, IL.by jtart - Other logs
Although I'm not claiming it (yet), I have come to the conclusion that my conservative talker IS Bakersfield, CA, KNZR. Not only have I heard right-wing phone talk, I've heard mention of 97.7 on several occasions - and both fit. There's nobody else on 1560 kHz with a 97.7 FM, and nobody else with Fox news/talk (although there is a station with Fox Sports). Also, KNZR is 25 kW non-directional untiby jtart - Medium Wave Logs
I thought I heard an OC about 8 p.m. ET Saturday; WKDO disappeared and WBYS dropped waayyy down (might have gone to night power), but it was only about a S5 here. Still no sign of WFME on Sunday morning. I kinda thought they'd try to get on for Sunday services. Maybe we have another week to mine the frequency? (I hope, I hope...)by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
I just got a clear ID on WBYS, doing oldies (instead of sports) for another new one. Now they're beginning a game. Go figure! This may be the Yahoo Sports station I heard earlier in the week. Good signal for 250 watts! As always, WKDO is being a real pest... I'm still wondering who was the conservative talker with phone calls I heard Wednesday. The only thing that fits is Bakersfield, CA, whicby jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Got the radio on by 0615 ET this morning. Still no NYC, thank goodness! Mostly heard the usual daytime jumble, but with WSBV pretty much on top. At 0645 WCNW signed on for the day with their xtian programming. A while later I got another clear WFSP ID. Nothing new, darn it! Not a trace of the 50kW flame-thrower, WAGL in SC. You'd think they would stand out with Music of Your Life...by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
That station is a real pest! I think they finally go off about 9 p.m. ET, but I can't be sure. And I don't think they have PSSA, so how do they get away with it? Managed two new ones today: WFSP in WV, and got a clear ID from KBEW!! Yippee! WFSP is also on late with oldies and Fox news on the hour. I'm not aware of PSSA for them, either, although they do have PSRA. Still no trace of KLNGby jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Just received my copy of the 2014 Pirate Radio Annual in the mail, along with a Captain Morgan clock for Ragnar..? Next time I see Ragnar I'll give it to him. Meanwhile, it looks good on my wall... ;) I'm settling in for another good read. Later: I'm crushed; Andy didn't deface (autograph) my copy! I think this is the first edition that he didn't sign. It just doesn't look right.by jtart - General radio discussion
Congrats again! I'm green with envy... You're much closer to KBEW, of course... I still haven't detected a trace of WQEW. Hope I don't for quite a while! All we need is yet another religion pumper on the airwaves - especially one with the power and coverage of this station.by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Congrats! That's a good catch. KGOW's day pattern is WSW, and their night pattern is just a bit more South; they put very little signal to the North (maybe toward Minnesota?), so you must have extremely good ears to hear this one. And a very quiet location!by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Got up a little earlier than usual and checked 1560. Heard a low-level jumble with nothing distinct. But also, no WQEW/WFME. Yet...by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Today wasn't as good as yesterday; WSBV and WKDO pretty much dominated. However, I did just get a "Magic 1560" ID from WMRO, Gallatin, TN, for one new station. I really hope WQEW/WFME doesn't make it back to the air tomorrow!by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Yeah; you're going to stay inside anyway, why not keep warm by the radio? I just checked the low end of MW and found CFOS-560, Owen Sound, ONT, at 2 p.m. Also two stations on 570 carrying Rush; one is WSYR, Syracuse, the other probably WKBN, Youngstown, OH. Slight delay between the two stations.by jtart - General radio discussion
Offhand, I'd say KGOW is pretty unlikely, even where you are. They are highly directional to the WSW and the night pattern is just a bit more Southerly. OTOH, WAHT in SC is also Yahoo Sports, so maybe them on late?by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
WKDO stays on pretty late for a daytimer! Dominant into WNY at the moment. Oldies as "The Vault". I'm also hearing a sports station that said Yahoo Sports, taking phone calls. WPAD is supposed to be ESPN, right?by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
So far I've managed to ID: WKDO and WKIK "real country" in MD. Correction (later): My error. WKIK is "Today's Country". Also had an unID ultra-conservative talk station, and a gospel music station that doesn't ID on the hour. They mentioned a Baptist church but I couldn't get the entire name. Later: Turned out to be WSBV, in South Boston, VA. They have an unusual sign-ofby jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Good sig into WNY with oldies and frequent IDs. He played some music I haven't heard in decades! Off with gmail addy.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Good signal into WNY with soul, reggae, and now pop music. Robot-vox IDs occasionally. Wonder what my most favorite radio station is? ;)by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Also here in WNY with Andy Walker and old rock (1967 last time I checked). Fair to good signal.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Playing the "Best of 2014" Good sig into WNY - peaking S9 - with decent audio. ID about 1428Z.by jtart - Free Radio Logs

I did a Google search and turned up no obit. And his Technician class license (K6SQN) was renewed in 2007. So it's anybody's guess...by jtart - General radio discussion
As I recall, Ernie Wilson and Panaxis were hassled by the FCC for providing parts and information to budding pirates, rather like Bill Cheek's Eleven Meter Times and Journal was hassled for publishing information on the proper use of amplifiers for CBers. In both cases, they decided it was better to shut down their operations than to try to fight the Feds. Bill has since died of lung cancer; Rby jtart - General radio discussion
I put fresh batteries into the rusty... errr, Trusty DX-398 this morning and took it along on my wasted trip to the Postal Orfice. I can now categorically state that: (1) The noise is NOT from the solar controllers at the school; all I heard there was silence, (2) I didn't find a plasma TV anywhere near my home although people might not have been at home watching TV at the time, and (3) it does nby jtart - General radio discussion
Received in the mail today, a full data, full color sheet from WAZU for the 7th February broadcast on 6925 kHz. Came with two stickers and a CD-R of the shows. Thanks, Fearless!by jtart - QSLs
HT charger is a possibility, but I've never seen one of the Town guys with one. Once the weather gets better (that's to say, the damn sn*w melts!) I'll slap some batteries in my DX398 and walk around. I haven't seen any houses in the area with solar panels on the roof. However, come to think of it, they just installed a roof-full at the local school to power the hydroponics lab, so that's anotby jtart - General radio discussion
