As I recall, Ernie Wilson and Panaxis were hassled by the FCC for providing parts and information to budding pirates, rather like Bill Cheek's Eleven Meter Times and Journal was hassled for publishing information on the proper use of amplifiers for CBers.

In both cases, they decided it was better to shut down their operations than to try to fight the Feds. Bill has since died of lung cancer; RIP.

America needs a sense of humor...
