Here's some info about it. Well, the initial buzz about might be interesting to check out. One thing interesting is the 22M FREQ close to where I set up with SW Part #15 stuff on 13.560MHz. But, with them being on 13.570MHz USB, I don't think that I have to worry about a super splatter. That 48M FREQ at 6065MHz will no doubt cause grief to Toronto's CFRX's 6070MHz. I guess that leaves Jan Crystal left in the USA,by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Yeah, I know that most of you could give a crap about anything amateur radio related, by the latest in the VID series of Ham Nation has Bob Heil, K9EID (Yes, the microphone dude.), building a one tube AM QRP transmitter. Starting with show #289, they show what it looks like, then in show #290, Bob builds the HV 6X5 power supply. And, it will go from there, and And yes, theby ThaDood - The Workshop
Some neat technology here. A few years ago I'd seen a VID where a student set-up TX / RX from the same place on the same FREQ, but instead of a set of big-ass expensive duplexers, he used a nulling technique. Looks like that's employed here,by ThaDood - The Workshop
I was going to suggest old, but reliable 1990's tech like a Ramsey FM-30, but Amazon has a bunch of Far East sellers out there, From what I've read, these are a bit spurious, so I would recommend building a Low Pass Filter for harmonic suppression. If you add a linear amp to that, you could build the filter in there. Just as a suggestion. Good luck, as the FM free radio politicalby ThaDood - The Workshop
Don't know why I was up tuning around 22M after midnight, but happened to catch a very weak UNID, 13.505MHz, AM mode, 04:25 - 04:30UTC. Sounded like music by The Carpenders, followed by unintelligible O.M.. Off at 04:30UTC. N.A.F.C. here.by ThaDood - Other logs
Hmmmmmmmmmmm... Do you already have transmitters that put out 5W? If so, then they would be good candidates for this cheaper approach, get a 2M linear and modify it to the FM BC bands. Double the values of your capacitors and coils. Also, use fans and added heat sinking to take the heat of doing 100% duty cycle. One thing is for sure, watch what spurs you might transmit. Try to keep it as clean aby ThaDood - The Workshop
The last month and a 1/2, or so, I was glad to watch the British amateur radio show TX Factor, www.txfactor.co.uk , which is like the USA's version of Ham Nation on steroids. The production factor here is great, however, this program is only produced once every 3 months, where as Ham nation is weekly. TX Factor show #13 they visit Radio Caroline! NICE!!!! Watch it here, Rby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Well, I guess that I don't mind my tax $$$$$$ supporting this. There's a hell of a lot worst that I know it goes to. And, they're still on-the-air. Oh, and the pirate comment? Just what is VOA's actual call sign? Hmmmmmmmm???? Just sayin'.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
To bad this doesn't verify reports, Hi-hi... Whelp, what that means is various engineers will find out what it's like to try and avoid steppin' on piles of moose crap. (Yes, I do know that from experience.) BTW, does anyone have any news on the other HAARP-wise systems around the world? I know that Europe, Russia, China, and someone else is doing these blow torch experiments, but my queby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Gee, I could see some great uses for this, Nice range too, from 500KHz to 30MHz to measure AM on Part #15 units, CB's, HF rigs of many types, AM Carrier-Current stations, etc. Better than lugging an o'scope around.by ThaDood - The Workshop
Well, just a few months ago, I seem to recall that Cycle 25 was to be predicted to be spotless, especially seeing how bad Cycle 24 was. So, is this the start of Cycle 25? Let's hope so. I like seeing those upper HF bands rockin'.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Updates for delivery on this DRM portable. They certainly have the demand,by ThaDood - The Workshop
Yep-yep, 29.660MHz FM, input 29560MHz. Today I was hearing very briefly a 10M repeater on 29.620MHz, but didn't get the ID.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Wow!!! Finally winter E propagation in there for 6M and 10M, not to mention crazy 11M. Last night it was weird, E opening to 06:30UTC last night talking to FL and OK. Earlier, I heard the Dallas, TX 10M FM repeater at 29.660MHz over the scanner. So, it's back, but for how long. Anyone heard WWV on 25MHz yet?by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Wow!!! Radio Confusion was the 1st MW AM pirate that I remember hearing on 1620KHz in the early 1990's. Hopefully, I still have that QSL card of that. And, also sorry to hear about the other free radio op that passed away in August. Let's hope that 2017 brings us some good news.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Whelp, January of 2016 brought out a neat call for DX'ers about a proposed National Geographic TV special about DF'ing and checking out number stations. Several of you, including myself, went through the process of several Skype interviews, sent PIC's of yourself and set-ups, and e-mails back and forth, then nothing buy February. I wonder if my questions to them made them think, "OK, you DFby ThaDood - General radio discussion
And you thought that it was hard to find your pocket portable, or even your watch radio,by ThaDood - The Workshop
Well, apparently I'd spoken too soon. The lower HF bands, and even MW, would be decent during the daylight, then when it got past Greyline, it would suck. With that newly built Windom, it's opened up 75M, 60M, and even 40M, back up to me. (The big difference was moving it way from the house about 60ft, thus get away from all its noises.) But anyway, I'd be listening on those 3 bands and even QSO'by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Not much better here in WV. Could tell it was an AM station, but was maybe half and "S" unit and muddy audio. Couldn't even tell what tune was playing. That, and much static crashes here.by ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
Great, Norway does the digital thang, Yeah, we've heard about it coming, but is it really a good idea to make analog obsolete completely on the FM band? Then again, Norwegians can tune to their neighboring countries for analog FM. That, and this might bring about an explosion of analog FM pirates over there. Some ops will do it. What format are they going to use? DRM, or our stupid IBOC Hby ThaDood - General radio discussion
About the only plus side to this cold snap is the AM medium wave DX possibilities. And not just at night, check out the fringe range of MW stations around you in the daytime when it's very cold. Heck, I see it even with my Part #15 station AM1620. At mid-day when it's way below freezing I've heard my station up to 4 miles on a car stereo. Not bad for a massive PEP = 92mW to a 10ft antenna. It mosby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Ya know, I've heard of these amateur radio Santa Nets being done around holiday times, but I've never actually heard one, until now. Just what it sounds like, some dude is designated to talk and sound like Santa Claus over the radio and take questions from kids at portable HF stations set-up at various high schools in TX, TN, MI, and GA. It was neat to hear them coordinate this. Definitely differby ThaDood - Other logs
Wow!!! Ever since I've moved down to WV, hearing Euro-stations of any sort has been quite a challenge. However, last night was different. Listening to that UK HAM, G0EVY, Dave, I could usually just hear him in there since he has a 75M switchable beam to N. Am. Last week, he peaked at about an S1 to me. However, last night at 04:00UTC he was popping in at an S5 at times! Unheard of where I am, thaby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Don't you still have that ATS-909 portable to take and noise hunt with that? I had to do that with that Eton pussy E-10 portable that I had. Two years ago I track down that my UPS was a colprit in on / off noise that pulsed. I've reduced that, but not eliminated it. And down in the basement I've tracked down to a surge suppressor, where I suspect that I've got some bad MOV's in it. But, you are rby ThaDood - The Workshop
Wow!!! Took advantage of the low noise levels (For once.), to check out the lower bands. To my surprise, Voice of Turkey coming in as clear as I've heard then on the higher FREQ's, S5 - S9 peak, and no phasing. YL with the VOT list of FREQ's at 23:53UTC, 12/6/2016. Then, cut to Turkish MX and off-air at 23:56. Huh... Wonder what I'll hear when I finally put up the big long wire up? For now, 60ftby ThaDood - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
Well, if you haven't heard this by now, here it is, About the only good thing to say about this is more FREQ's for us. Still, I loved it when they used 19.0000MHz and their 13M FREQ.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
I duh-know... I've got mixed feelings about this. Is WGY going whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa? Or do you think that they have a legit bitch? Huh, years ago, I had to help a gas tech in ENY since WGY's signal dug into gas measurement instruments. But, that's what happens when you have such a site within eyeshot of a 50KW MW's station tower.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Sounds like what I've just heard. 6950.020USB, 22:23UTC, Sounded like techno-trance MX, then various punk metal tunes, (Was one of those Minor Threat?), Thought that I heard a single ID @ 22:45UTC and wrote it down as KILP. (I guess that wasn't right.), Then, heard 1st few notes of Kim Mitchell - Go For Soda, then off @ 22:46UTC. Signal faded from below noise level to peaking at an S4 with a guitby ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
Neat MW RX, but never knew Sporadic E to affect MW. Well, tonight just did 6M (50MHz) contacts to TX and LA around 02:00UTC. Rare to happen in November, thus a neat treat indeed!by ThaDood - General radio discussion
