Locally, our LPFM is doing this, I am more surprised upon what stations are not on the Vinylthon list, Sounds like fun, anyway.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
I've modified a newly bought used, $6.00, Yorek portable with a BNC connector, to shielded RG-174 coax, to chassis GND. And??? 1st, I've tried the Windom Antenna, that I use in amateur radio TX/RX'ing. One leg is 100ft, going over a creek valley, and the other leg is 62ft, along the hillside. The center is fed by a 2kW rated 4:1 Voltage Balun. As expected, IMD and front-end overload throughout thby ThaDood - The Workshop
Then, you have this method. Hey... If it works. Some of these Reciva based radio were around $400.00 new.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
This may change shortwave. From same source as SWLing and HFU got it from.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Radio Jay Allen comes again with what was a $10.00 impulse buy for him, the new Yorek #YK-901 pocket AM / FM stereo / SW DSP portable. He got his for around $10.00! Mine, was around $22.00 total with with shipping and WV state tax. Now, why did I buy one? For the SW FREQ coverage of 3MHz - 21.850MHz continuous coverage. I want to use it as an on-air monitor tool of 3885kHz AM, 7290kHz AM, 20M AM,by ThaDood - The Workshop
I may try this on my Sangean WFR-20 wi-fi radio:by ThaDood - General radio discussion
There ya go. Sell stuff to the US Coast Guard! I kindda' know what they're going through... Read my $0.02 worth way down below.by ThaDood - The Swap Shop
Yep, they lead with that. (Thanks Caryn, KD2GUT!!!!!!)by ThaDood - General radio discussion
WOW!!! That was a hard TEXT to get while at work today. Known George since an ACE get-together in 1990. Then, when the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame opened in Cleveland, I went to his house. He had some serious gear back in the early 1990's. Never made it to a Winterfest to see him talk at one of those, but thanks to those that posted downloadable links on The FRN, I have several of his talks. (Hmby ThaDood - General radio discussion

This could make for some neat, rare, contacts. Who knows, you too could be ending a contact with Спасибо и до свидания!by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Yeah, another rip from SWLing links: A nice read on the history of WLW is the C1971 book, by Dick Perry, “Not Just A Sound, The Story Of WLW” . You may still find that in libraries and used book stores. BTW, this is the station that tested at 500kW in the 1930's, so an interesting history, indeed.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Even on the Windom, late nights, after midnight, I'll tune down to 60kHz and check WWVB's signal strength. On good night, I get it at S+30/9. Then, there are nights where it's just barely above the S7 - S9 noise levels. That Atomic Clock, a fairly cheap Chinese ceiling project clock that I have, switched to DST before midnight this time for the Spring Ahead +1hr. (Interesting.) While not really TX / RX gear for say, the compact cassette tape certainly holds it's place in free radio history. Case in point, remember when many programs were only 30min and 45min, or the length of one side of a cassette? And, I'm still refurbishing cassette decks, today. I still have an entire dresser full of cassettes from the last 40-some years to convert to digital format. Ahhhhhhh, the mby ThaDood - The Workshop
Huh... My sister told me about this story yesterday. It makes you wonder.by ThaDood - The Workshop

Ehhh??? That simulcast of that 98.7 The Buck just walks in here over anything else on that FREQ. At least, ya'll are hearing other stuff there on 1560kHz. So much for a 'Free FREQ', O.F.W.. On a somewhat bright side, I can now hear what the crappy weather, by that weather girl with the E. KY accent, will be like in Liberty, KY, before it dumps on me here in WV.by ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
Neat!!!! Using a Yaesu FT-70DR HT as my D/A C4FM scanner, ISS came in about S9 with answers from one of the female astronauts. Answers on riding the SpaceX Dragon, as compared to Soyus, weightlessness, and trying to enjoy the time during the work sched. Heard her for about 10min. At least, I believe that it was 145.550MHz, and not 145.800MHz. I have the alphanumerics on that HT. (I do, and don'tby ThaDood - Other logs
The AM side of 98.7FM The Buck seems to walk in to WV tonight. I even e-mailed them to tell them that they now dominate the FREQ after dark, and Huh??? Listed 'Daytime only' under Radio Locator? Guess not.by ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
Huh... Wonder if one of those was what I heard air Fibber McGee & Molly at 3AM last night. No ID, no promos, but damn good S+20/9 signal off the Windom. Hmmmmmmmm??? Who' dat, who' dat???by ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
And I've heard why from a dude whom lives up that way. Clark, N1BCG, on a 3873AM QSO, told me that the station was offered $51M for, not the station and tower array, but for the +5 acre property alone! Whoa!!!! Somebody wants that space.by ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
Heard about this on SWLing, but got this link, You can even download the .PDF listings.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
The results from adding this to the Windom in early Nov. 2020? This Voltage Balun has a + and - on the output terminals. The long leg, going across a creek valley is best on the +, while the 62ft leg is on the - . And??? About -3dB to -6dB less noise. Seems comparable in performance to the W2DU Current Balun, even in the same SWR, except somewhat higher on 10M. It does handle the extra oomph thby ThaDood - The Workshop

Been there a few times myself. But, check out the VID's that Jeri did of this neat facility, Another site for the museum is here, And, even donated items to this museum, like a 1958 NAB FM Station MONO / Stereo Set-Up Test LP. I've tried to go to the other museum in East Bloomfield, NY, but could never find it open when I had time off. Anyway, enjoy!!!!by ThaDood - General radio discussion
