Yeah but what does the FCC know? They list WAZU as some non-commercial FM upstart in Toledo. I've used that call since 1991... :)

Traditionally I could pick him up at my QTH pretty much 24/7 with at least an S3 signal. Although I am now finding him on again over the last couple of weeks, like you Bram, I'll hear him and then recheck an hour or two later and he's not there. I'm guessing that he's been spooked because his operational profile has changed drastically.

I agree with you completely jta - provided that you're talking about a traditional format bandplan - as has already been tried as you refer to. What I'd like to see - just tweaking a reverie here - is an experimental de-regulated band receivable by the general public. Fat chance that will ever happen (outside of possibly the Dutch experiment) but if it does, it will fill with electromagnetic fe

I agree with you Dood, LPTV had the potential to shine. As did LPFM. Unfortunately you will always have people that will try to monetize anything. The same mentality exists with all the robo calling shops out there. I mean, does anyone actually LISTEN to a whole robo message? Does anyone ever actually BUY anything from a robo caller? The call-to-close ratio must be about ten bazillion to on

My heart says that its a good thing. However, my head knows that once a slice of spectrum is de-criminalized - a spectrum slice that is easily receivable by the general public - then it will quickly become overrun with mediocrity. Once the kit sellers and pre-built unit sellers make the spectrum slice cheap and easy to access... EEK!! Jukeboxes and real estate annunciators and undocumented tra

That's really neat Dood. They seem to have put a lot of thought into the "gotchas" of shortwave in a vehicle. Also nice that its a DSP receiver through and through unlike some of the car radios with HF coverage. I see it doesn't do SSB though. And its unfortunate that this is coming along now when the shortwave bands are being abandoned to the religious broadcasters and to p-p-p-p..

I also heard OTR on Sunday and also with a degraded signal. Right now (0100 on 1/14) I have a dead carrier at normal OTR strength and fading on 6763 with some apparently unrelated sideband chatter underneath. OTR always comes in pretty well at my QTH so tis a bit of a mystery...

Lots of kit suppliers out there Dood. Google brings up a ton. Amazon and Ebay have a bunch too. I know what you mean about Ramsey though. I have feelings of nostalgia for them like I do for the old Heathkits. And they were kinda in the neighborhood too....

Can't help you with that one John. No Amazon sellers list it, GEMM is out of business, and there's only ONE YouTube entry on it. The poster has put up excerpts of it. Besides TERRIBLE source vinyl, he's overdriven everything. Sounds kinda like something that needs wiping - not worth the bother...

Yes Cos, I echo JTA's comments - thank you for resuscitating the FRN! Although I use and enjoy other forums to good effect, I always appreciate rubbing elbows with the old gang here as well. The FRN is slowly building traffic and I believe that it will find its own place and purpose organically - in time.

Paranoid? You might be right :) I'm just an oldster that started doing this stuff back in the days when the likes of Judah Mansbach and his ilk were keeping the shortwave bands safe for America. OTR just gets amazinger and amazinger to me, the longer it operates. If it is a research station then one might wonder the nature of that research. Maybe they are studying how long and hard they can

You wrote a good post, Dood. Lots of info there for the budget-minded should they choose to use it. I know what you mean about the "snobs". I remember posting on the old FRN site's LPFM Board maybe 15 or so years ago. I also talked about using budget equipment including 80s/90s vintage Radio Shack mixers and got similar snide remarks from all the appliance operators. There seems to

6955 USB - S9 signal with armchair copy here in the Vampire State. Piano jazz music interspersed with monologues from several sources. One was about a man that taught his a$$hole to talk. Another was a drunken man extolling on the virtuosity of Dr. Benway's surgical talents. Several IDs including one at 2308 "broadcasting freedom from the Great Lakes". A delightful change from all
