Recently I got word that the FCC has released 500 of the 1st LPFM issued stations, so I did the FM Station Query search and came up with the following: Instead of FCC call letters, which is what you are use to seeing in a station search there, it reads "NEW". So, does this mean that the FCC is going to grant these organizations contruction permits? Got to admit, this is differentby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Doin' this from memory, but about mid-90's Christmas Eve mid-night WJDI came on booming on 1620KHz AM boasting 15KW, and maybe higher. Wasn't on for even an hour with rock tunes and parady skits when suddenly, off-air. Came back on in less that 2hrs says back, but with lower power, and finished broadcast. Still, a bangin' signal and great audio. And that's when I was living in WNY at the time, Iby ThaDood - General radio discussion
That's about all I'm hearing, carrier HET's started right at 00:00UTC, and someone calling CQ-CQ for 40M HAM over that top of that a minute later.by ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
Heard at 6925.05USB, 1/4/2014, 23:20 - 23:31UTC, Classic rock mix. Weak sig to start, but low noise level here, but peaked to an S2 during Hendrix- Star Spangled Banner. Finally ID's as Radio Ga-ga, said "Catch you later.", off-air at 23:31UTC.by ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
That FREQ could be a problem. It's actually used quite a bit here in the USA. 40M AM HAM's like to use it, probabily as an alternative to the hash and trash they get on 75M AM. Also, isn't there an INT broadcaster on that FREQ about that time? 50W from Chili? Quite a hual, but not an impossible one as I've heard QSO's in USB with N. Am HAM's to there late nights on 40M. We'll keep our ears stretcby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Weak station playing techno tunage. Couldn't catch ID, faded out 30sec after stumbling upon it. Any clues?by ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
Enjoyable catch of XFM on 1/1/2014, 07:05UTC - 07:28UTC, 6960KHz AM. Caught on the A-99 27MHz CB antenna since my longwire was tied up on 13MHz (Some of you know why.) Caught with Kenwood TS-2000X, cheated with RX preamp, but no QRM and signal peaked to S6. Great audio quality! Production and quality of programing equally as great. Playlist very cool blend of modern artists, not the same classicby ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
Happy 2014! Well, I've already e-mailed the following to Allen Weiner and to some of you, as well as the MP3 recording. So to save myself some type, 'cause I'm lazy now, here's a copy of what I wrote: "Hey Allen!!! Happy New Year, but what a bizzare way to start it off. Last night, just before I went to bed, I went through the memory channels in the Kenwood to hear somethby ThaDood - Other logs
Just caught the trail end of that with the Sam Kinnasen sound bytes. (No, I don't know how to spell that.) Peaked about an S3 with great audio quality.by ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
I can hear that dude GNK almost everyday in daytime hours. Some folks are calling him GuNK. He must have his dipole right in my direction to SW WV since I hear him on the 60ft longwire (the best), my A-99 CB antenna, and even heard him on the telescopic whip on my 'ol Sangean ATS-803A indoors! Not bad for only 4mW and an indoor dipole. Have yet to have this dude verify my reception report. I wondby ThaDood - Other logs
Here's a weird one to pass by ya'll. Now that more folks are checking out the Part #15 stations on the 22M band, a.k.a. 13MHz, and hearing milliwatt beacons, AM'ers, and those commercial NBFM'ers, how and where would we post them? Technically, they're not pirates, but some of them are some long DX work and they are non-licensed. Thought I'd throw it out there. THANKS!!!!!by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Huh, never would have considered going to 1720KHz. No conventional radios will go there, and some won't even do 1710KHz. Guess that I'll have to start checkin' there now. Thanks for the hints guys! One plus that I see about being on 1720KHz is no AM splatter from 1700KHz.by ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
Anyone hear anything on MW this X-mas?by ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
Well after barely hearing UNID's for the last day and a 1/2, finally heard The Crystal Ship booming in at 22:20UTC at 6925.600KHz AM. Good audio, but much phasing and fading from S3 to S8 peak. Mix of 1960's pop tunage, heard TCS ID at 22:25UTC, heard Juliana montana bitch out tcsshortwave@gmail.coby ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
Possibly. A search on www.part15.us might lead to more of these Part #15 CW'ers. Today, I'm hearing that GNK dude on 13.564MHz CW, even in AM mode. Peaks to about an S5 reading with pre amp on. I can even hear this on my A-99 CB antenna. Much weaker, but there it is. Then I also heard AM on 13.570MHz AM. Very weak and a lot of low audio FREQ. Could be VOA since they are allocated there. Yep, mystery solved. Guess I'll QSL that dude,by ThaDood - Other logs
Well, since I'm gearing up to do 22M part #15 stuff on the FREQ of 13.560MHz AM soon, I did another band scan there this afternoon only to find what sounded like a 5WPM CW becon on 13.562MHz, 19:30UTC, 12/7/2013, very, very, weak, but there it was repeating "da-da-dit, da-dit, da-dit-da" or GNK over and over. I've heard of Part #15 becons, and if someone wanted to do Part #15 DX'ing tby ThaDood - Other logs
Well, duh-know if this is the place to post this link, but here's another list of 11M Broadcast Auxilliary Stations:by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Was racing through the 17M amateur band and went beyond 18.168USB and was surprised to hear a modulated carrier on 18.180MHz AM. Sounded like Chinese. Signal faded from S0 - S3 peak, with less fading on the vertical CB antenna, but not stronger. Great audio quality! Sounded like commercials and a news report with telephone interviews. Too bad that I don't know Chinese. Anyone care to guess what tby ThaDood - Other logs
Yep, caught it at 23:38 with outro thyme from 1980's Dr. Who MX, then modern rock MX to 23:56. Signals peaked at S7. Nice fidelity for USB, good bass response.by ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
Nice, clean FREQ. Two Canadian / German sounding male ops crankin' out 90's and modern power and thrash metal like Danzig, C.O.C., Type O Neg, etc. Much fade from S 1/2 to S7 peak, slick production on ID's / jingles. Didn't catch the dude's names, don't remember if they'd ANN that. Said Good-bye and quickly off-air at 23:34UTC. Neat show, didn't mind the tunage either.by ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
Whelp, trying out a new antenna system and to show JG Tiger what it can get I was tuning on 31M and stumbled upon 9420KHz AM playing funky instrumental tunage around 01:00UTC, just crankin' out one tune after another, (Very WMPR-ish.), no ID'es, but great AM audio and signals varied from S7 to S9. Around 07:00UTC I tuned to it again crankin' out those funky INST tunes and waited for an announcemeby ThaDood - Other logs
I wrote the same thing to Radio Austrailia and got the following: "Hi ********** Thanks for your comments. We appreciate all information about reception -- good or bad -- as it assists us in our frequency planning. Regards Radio Australia Transmissions Unit" Well, that's a quicker, and better, response that I've gotten from other SW stations.by ThaDood - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
Well just about every evening now, (Well, at least the evenings that I can get to an HF rig.), I've been hearing Radio Austrailia pretty regularly, 1st on 21.740MHz AM from around 21:00 - 01:00UTC, then simulcasting on 19.000MHz AM from 21:30 - 02:00UTC. The 13M signal would 1st boom in, with much fade, from S1 to S10/9. About when 13M peaks I can start to hear the 16M FREQ, way weaker. About 00:by ThaDood - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
Do I dare ring in on this? Whelp, here goes... This reminds me of the early 1980's, when VCR's were coming around to where folks could somewhat afford them. There would be a special TV show, game, televised play, see whom John Hohmes was bangin', etc, but ya had the chance of either watching it LIVE and recording it, or douchebags like me would have to work every F'n night, so you'd set it up andby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Yep, heard it today, 10/27/2013, listening to them carrying the Broncos / Redskins game starting 20:45UTC. Telephone mono toned quality audio, signals peaked to S 40/9 with deep fades and phasing on the A-99 CB antenna. Found that being HORZ on the 60ft long wire reduced signal by 1/2, but reduced the phasing distortion a lot. Waited for top of the hour AUX Station ID, but only ID'ed 850AM KOA Deby ThaDood - Other logs
Interesting numbers station caught 8992KHz USB, 10/14/2013, 06:33UTC. Caught only last 3min of it. Not strong enought for an S" meter readings but practically no QRM / QRN there. Female ANN repeating numbers and letters in USA English, no accents. What was strange was the vacuum cleaner hose sounding reverb that she had. Stopped at 06:36UTC. Well, I thought that it was a neat catch.by ThaDood - Other logs
Tuned in at 00:05 to long-ass version of Beattles - All Too Much, heard M Ann ID as MAC Shortwave and the Dr. Who Show @ 00:14 (Had to go get JG Tiger's ass to the radio to hear this then.) Tunes from Olypians, M Ann with ID, then Black Sabbath - Blue Sued Shoes (The F'ed up version.), M Ann ID, The Doors - Love Me 2 Times, M. Ann, The Idols, M Ann with ID, Pocket Calculator tune, M.
