Driving back from work around 04:15UTC to hear what sounded like the typical robot female voice used via NOAA Weather Radio stations. I know that Pennsylvania will simulcast NOAA WX Radio on their T.I.S.stations, so I suspect that it could be coming from that. Unfortunately, too much noise for a positive ID on the truck stereo.by ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
Interesting. Didn't think that a headphone debate would occur from this, but.... Never tried the Sony MDR-A22, (Or have I? Read on.) but I've DJ'ed for years with a pair of Sony MDR-7506 Monitor full-cup headphones and loved the balance of highs and lows that they've brought out. 15 years ago I bought cheap a pair of Panasonic RP-HT710 headphones so that I could modify them with a condenser boomby ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
Hello all, I'm wondering if any other pirate station would be interested in relaying purely 5-6 minutes of pirate logs on their show? Spaceshuttle Radio has been the first station to take interest in that. It's gone well. Email me at hriradio@gmail.com if you're interested or have quieries. Came back from work somewhat early, but still in time to hear XFM, with DJ Red Hat, at 05:50UTC - 08:00UTC. Signal peaked no higher than "S7" with an occasional fade to below the "S"meter reading. Mostly modern millennial rock, Rahmstein, Stabbing Westward, requested Gorillas, talked about what male DJ's actually do on CM radio today and read e-mails, Zero To Panic, Cake, X2by ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
Well thank you all for your extra ears out there. One big benefit I have for not using 1620KHz, beside getting away from S Bend's WDND1620, is no DSL crap. I might actually be able to monitor my own station free of that DSL BRRRRRRRRRRRRRR noise in the studio. Wow, a clear AM FREQ. I'm almost excited, almost. Y'ain't goinna' hear my 100mW and 10ft antenna though, but that would be like the ultimaby ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
It is indeed very conceivable to remotely run all FCC monitoring stations unmanned from just one central location. Consider the following, how many of you have SDR's where you can record whole spectrums of FREQ bands on TB hard drives, then later you can analyze that later to see if you've caught a pirate, numbers station, etc.? And, for you HAM's out there, how many of you can remotely, via webby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Kind of hate being OFF-AIR, and ff put it best that I'm going through broadcasting withdraw. However, this does give me more time to research a big problem that I've had using 1620KHz. WDND1620 S Bend, IN, even at their 1KW night power, just slams me where I iz, even better than Chi-town's 50KW clearchannelers. (Go figure.) Now with 100mW and a 10ft ANT on MW, granted that I'm not a flame throwerby ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
Awh crap Bram! Looks like you've beatin' me to this since I also put this on ANNOUNCEMENT. Whelp, between the two of us barkin' someone oughtta' hear him. O.F.W...by ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
FWD from Cupid Radio: (NOTE TO ZAPPAHEAD: Can you delete this after 3/15/2015? THANKS!!!! Tha Dood) Dear radio friends, It have been a while ago since our last adventure towards the east continent, i remember it was a lot of fun then, and we got a large amount of listeners at the other side of the world. With this huge flare explosion from the sun i give it a go tomorow on 15 of march.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
1st caught at 02:30UTC, signal peaked to maybe an S1. Very enjoyable playlist with not the usual classic rock that you're stuck with from other pirates, but a nice mix of album cut modern rock with only a couple of classics. Playlist included AC/DC, 10 Years, new Avid Dancer, Linkin Park, Lenny Kravitz, Madonna, TV On The Radio, Cake, Interpol, They Might Be Giants, Gorillas, Garbage, Black Keys,by ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
Hey Boomer? Well, you're kindda' right. What I was referring to was an analog TV stations video carrier's RF FREQ. I tuned a scanner up that way once. WNED-TV CH17 wasn't strong enough to even be detectable on a TV set. The station had its TX on Grand Island, NY (Right between Buffalo / Niagara Falls.) and even though it was about 90 air miles from me, the RX sensitivity of a scanner radio coulby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Awh damn it all.... I'd better not be trend setting again. DON'T FOLLOW MY LEAD GLOBAL 24! Bad enough I'm off-air.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
With all of my test gear being old (+15 years), and way out of calibration, having a stable source to tune-up receivers, and transceivers, that's affordable is not only nice, but really essential. Recently, (Actually, within the last year.) I've noticed that my Kenwood TS-2000X transceiver was a bit off on pretty much everyone that I've QSO'ed with, or RX'ed in SSB and CW. Going to the TS-2000 Yaby ThaDood - General radio discussion
With this nasty cold snap being a major pain to everything we do, there is one upside to it. LF and MW daytime DX'ing. Try it!!! These FREQ's propitiate in the cold temperatures. So, any low FREQ daytime stations that you can normally barely detect might come in great. I know this time of year I can hear my MW Part #15 AM station at a supermarket parking lot 4 miles away. I can't do that in the sby ThaDood - General radio discussion
At 03:15UTC there, I'm getting a fairly strong dead carrier going from S6 to S7 with a couple of weak stations being heard wayyyyyyyyy in the back ground. Good! WQED can stay off-air than carrying the pedophile mouse network.by ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
Very, very weak copy where I am with much fading. Can't even get an ID on this, but it's a very weak AM SIG on 6876.by ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
I question whether Ernie's still alive today. Heck, in his news letters he'd boast about his +50 years in the broadcasting industry, and that was back in 1988. So, he's either older than dirt, or under the dirt. There's got to be an OBIT out in Paradise, CA about that.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Whelp, that is the other thing that came to mind was a security system, albeit the one I have here doesn't seem to affect anything with all its wireless door sensors and motion detectors and spurs don't seem to be radiating on the landline it's attached to. (THERE, just gave out private info to 3rd parties reading since I don't have a Samsung Smart TV where they can listen to me verbally.) They dby ThaDood - General radio discussion
23:38UTC, Peaking at an S1, heard live Clash tunes like Stand By Me and This Is Radio Clash. Nice bassy quality audio for USB, but audio kept dropping out like a loose connection. ID'ed as XLR8 at 23:52. Then heard various punk tunage afterwards. I stopped listening at 00:11UTC. Test broadcast?by ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
Well, here's a problem that I induced upon myself. I bought one of those $200.00 APC UPS power back-up systems, which it very essential where I am. However, about every minute it pulses a charge to the batteries and that pulse rips into LF, MW, HF, and even into lower VHF. The fundamental FREQ seems to be on 67KHz with multiples there after. I've reduced those emissions with CAP's and chokes, buby ThaDood - General radio discussion
WAZU signed off at 23:52UTc, only to immediately get a solid "S9" carrier, then what sounded like an album cut of a Don Henley tune. Radio Clandestine with RF Burns ID. The Beatles, Nick Lowe, interview with RF Burns on deck of his ship sounds in background, Jay Giles?, Can't remember who does Switchbox Susan, spoof CM's for a dictionary, Marijuana Helper, PR/ID of R. 23:33UTC, Caught butt end of WAZU during the, "Remember when we DX'ed for pirates?" , followed by Weird Al, then April Wine, ending with QSL via wazushortwave@gmail.com . Can anyone ID a station that jams metal at night on 590KHz? 1/29/2015 11:15PM EST I heard what sounded like Steve Vai, then it faded to the dozen of other 590's out there. Anyone got good ears for that FREQ at night?by ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
Yep, right at the end of World Of Radio #WOR 1757, just before the propagation outlook, Glen Hauser mentions WAZU on WBCQ exactly the way that you'd expect him to. Way da' go ff!!!!!by ThaDood - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
You're lucks. I can only hear the SW side of CFRB (CFRX) on 6070KHz. Usually 1010WINS NYC stomps them.by ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
Yep, had to check out the final WAZU show on the 5110 side of WBCQ. Good S7 peaks and the 1st 1/2 hour with a decent signal. However, signal tanks during the 2nd 1/2 hour. Still, caught and made out most of it. GOOD SHOW!!!!by ThaDood - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
I'll go along with what Pat said. Very innovated for its time that Grenade, it still is. Yeah, you could have lugged in the woods an HF transceiver, deep cycle marine battery, Walkman, antenna gear, etc., but you'd be lucky to get 30min out of that before the battery died on ya. The low power consumption of the Grenade would let you rock for a good portion of a night.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Not to be outdone by ff, a second airing of my program, The Underground Jam, (The 1st one ran on Labor Day weekend.) will air Sunday night January 25, 8:00PM EST, or it would be considered Monday 01:00 GMT, on WBCQ's 7490KHz. This time around I'll be killing two birds with one stone, to help get publicity for a Russian artist with his 1st solo project releast in the West, and to fill the rest ofby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Damn!!!! That's some nice work. Last year I've gotten built and goin' on-air a Part #15 milliwatt TX for the Part #15 22M band on 13.560MHz AM (Hint-hint, on some weekends and holidays check that FREQ with a 20M beam, or a vertical antenna.) With ff's help, that 'lil TX is a nice performer, MOD great, and harmonics are nicely suppressed. However, it ain't no show horse like what this guy makes. Hby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Checking out 10M propagation, before it tanked for the day, only to find this weird thing on 28.4249MHz USB at 21:50UTC. It sounded like audio being pumped from an Antonio Bandaras movie, (Unknown which one.) Decent audio quality with peaks to S8, then stopped at 21:57. Came back on 21:58 with TOP 10 IMPROVISED MOVIE SCENES. At 22:03 it was like someone turned-on a -20dB attenuator on it, but stiby ThaDood - Other logs
