Cool, I was wondering if anyone else heard them. With the gaps, it sounded like a '70s Gold' CD being played. I wondered if there were IDs, and if I just couldn't hear them with the constant voice on Cuba. I never really lost the signal, and didn't hear propagation effects on it.
I'm listening on a computer sound system with a subwoofer and that station can really make it boom, so it seems like they have professional modulation equipment and processing to get the bass that deep and clean sound.
I think you're right that America needs a sense of humor, people take words so seriously these days. I think there's a sign that people want to get back to laughing again, comedy clubs are filling up now, Adam Carolla was talking about it.
Remember when pirate radio had lots of comedy stations, like Voice of Laryngitis, Radio Comedy Club, and others that played Firesign and Cheech and Chong bits? You could say that humor's old now, but least there are a few stations with live DJs who joke around, like Zeeky and Radio Free Whatever.
