Well taking that logic (?) to the natural end result, wouldn't having to use a "radio" receiver to "hear" a pirate, be cheating? By this standard, only someone sitting in an audience or next to the Pirate making a broadcast would in fact be "hearing" the Pirate. Using a radio would be "cheating" as you needed an electronic device that decodes the signal, making it listenable to the human ears. The radio is a "cheat" device to hear the Pirate. The argument for purists has some jagged edges don't you think?
