The Free Radio Weekly (FRW) is an internet newsletter devoted to the hobby of listening to free radio "pirate" broadcasters in the shortwave radio bands. The FRW is produced by the free radio community and distributed to those who contribute.

The weekly deadline is Saturdays at 0000 UTC (Friday night in North America). Please send your logs to all the editors, as our editing schedule is subject to last minute changes. Thank you for your inputs!

On St.-Michel-des-Saints QC sdr with fair S9 to S9+10 signal and some static, had to use SAU (sync am upper) because lower side had QRM de Radio Free Whatever, hear pop music, song: "runaway", Ballsmacker ID at 0114 then "count me in" Gary Lewis and playboys, at 0147 old song "beep beep" about race between a Nash Ramble and a Cadillac, at 0153 old psychedelic tune "see Emily play", nice selection of music, at 0229utc SSTV/FAX then goodbye announcment by woman and piano IS then carrier off at 0233. thanks for the program. 5/15, 0016-0022, 6960am. 30 to 40 dB above the noise. Games People Play, Playboy, Play with Fire. ID @ 0020 by YL. Bandwidth @ 9000 Hz was usable. (45343, Hunsicker, PA)

Pirate S8/S9+5 vs high storm noise level -- HSNL, ``Games People Play`` and segué another song. 0109 YL ``Greatest hits of all time, Ball Smacker``, and tenpins SFX, now S9+15 between storm crashes. 5/17, 0022, 6925am. Lively Caribbean jazz music by Yoko Kanno Seatbelts, with some talk underneath and co-channel. Op at 0025 back announcing the music. foxy am at protonmail.com contact given, and into a mellow jazz/pop song. Nice music selection. Op says at 0036 he's ending the show, because conditions are so terrible. Off at 0037, leaving the fishermen babbling by themselves. s9/s15. (Will-MD)

5/15, 2350, 6955usb. Program of rock music. Initially quite weak, came up about 0010. Eventually an SSTV (didn't decode here), an ID more music, another ID at 0036. By 0030 Fair. (Taylor-WI)

** Radio Free Whatever

5/13, 0034, 6955usb. On Barrington Hills IL sdr with fair/poor noisy S7 to S9 signal, storms approaching from west, hear nice instrumental music, at 0038 switched to St.-Michel-des-Saints QC sdr with good S9 to S9+10 signal, nice easy listening music, Radio Free Whatever announcement at 0040 followed by rock tune, some selective fading, at 0047 DJ=Dick Weed mentioned my name while reading HF underground posts. 5/13, 2350-0036, 6955usb. ID @ 2356. Indie-rock. Bandwidth about 3800 Hz. (35444, Hunsicker, PA)

5/9, 0148, 6960am. Lucky 13 (Outhouse) "August 10" (live) - Khuangbin, other mellow instrumental music, 2 SSTV (neither decoded) - per HFU "Lucky 13" which is an Outhouse production. Poor – fair. (Taylor – WI)

5/17, 2301-2348, 6925usb. Pop music, most too weak to understand. Sounded best with 2600 Hz bandwidth. (About 7 dB above the noise, Hunsicker, PA)

** Wasteland Radio

5/15, 0056-0121, 6930usb. Mostly solo rock guitar. SSTV @ 0103 in Scottie 2 with ID. With the noise 2600 Hz bandwidth was best. (25342, Hunsicker, PA)

5/15, 0101, 6930usb. S9+10 pirate with electric guitar; 0103 retune, DJ has spoken a bit and SSTV, 0104 music, ``Let`s Speak English, But Not My Salad[?]``, more electric guitar. 0127 SSTV is ending? then some more, 0128 music. 0148 SSTV? beepery sounds like looping past 0150 when DJ grunts, ``I Wanna Be a DJ`` song still playing until 0200 when there are some more noises unseeming SSTV, then off, or dead air as I am about to QRT. Of the three simulpirates, this is #1 in strength and quality. 5/15, 0145, 6930usb. Wasteland Radio (via Outhouse Radio?) 0145utc on Barrington Hills IL sdr with weak S5 to S7 signal, hear music then male talking, at 0146 some kind of varying tone that went on for a while, at 0154 SSTV-FAX. (Hassig-IL)

5/15, 0047-0121, 6925/6920usb. OM seemed to have an Eastern European accent. It was Ladies Night. Change from 6925 to 6920 @ 0051. (35343, Hunsicker, PA)

"Mindbender" - Stillwater, "Timorous me" - Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, "Soft energy" - Mermaidens, ID, "La la" - Kids in America “Feat” - The Mowgli's and more programming with music and periodic ID’s. 5/14, 0201, 6925am. On St.-Michel-des-Saints QC sdr with fair/poor S9 signal and an old Mamas and Papas song, I came back at 0233 after Ballsmacker signed off, at 0235 Linda Ronstadt "different drum". (Hassig-IL)

5/14, 0400, 7475am. In progress at tune-in. Usual lecture, all prerecorded stuff. Closing ann , Days of Hard Life song at 0410, final closing ann (trashing Catholic church and repetition of "There is none other beside me" & "I love you" - off at 0416. Fair. (Barton-AZ)

5/20, 0310, 7475am. In progress at tune-in. Noted taped broadcast, usual presenter (Josiah Elias). Talk of establishment of "New World Order". Fair to Good. (Barton-AZ)

5/19, 0440, 7475am. In progress at my very late tune-in. Way out in the mud at tune-in, but F/G by 0450, and reading paper on Jewish perspective on The Messiah, and Ten Commandments, & admonishing us to burn national flags. Days of hard Life and live closing ann at 0515. "I love you folks, please excuse my attitude, Station YHWH is now going dark, take care" & out at 0522. Fair to Good. (Barton-AZ)

5/18, 0400, 7475am. In progress at my late tune-in. Usual stuff until interesting live segment at 0450 when op complained about paying 7 dollars a gallon gasoline to run his generator on his Social Security income, then into a planned 70 minute pre-recorded px. Mentioned he doesn't have a mobile or a computer. At 0605: "I love you and good night, folks" and off. Fair to Good. (Barton-AZ)

5/17, 0300, 7475am. In progress at tune-in, "Poor" level, but improved over time, and on the fallacy of human and animal sacrifice by 0325. "Shalom" closing ann, playing of Days if Hard life at 0405, but then came back live saying station would go on another 45 minutes. Asking listeners to record and distribute his "emergency message" to the world, "Good night, folks", Days of hard Life replay at 0450. Went live at 0453 again with closing ann. "Good night I love you until the next time", and mentioned he can't give out contact info. GOne at 0457. Fair to Good. (Barton-AZ)
