The Free Radio Weekly (FRW) is an internet newsletter devoted to the hobby of listening to free radio "pirate" broadcasters in the shortwave radio bands. The FRW is produced by the free radio community and distributed to those who contribute.

== Happenings ==

There is a PBS program called "WBCN and the American revolution" about WBCN 104.1 in Boston in the late 1960's and early 1970's. I'm watching its 2nd rerun now on WTTW 11.2 here in Chicagoland. I also recorded its 1st rerun last night on a DVD-R. I can make copies of the DVD-R if anybody is interested. BTW, it can be watched online. It runs two hours. (Hassig-IL)

11/13, 0018-0117, 6950usb. Mostly unusable due to weak signal and a noisy evening. ID at 0029. Otherwise, music. (Hunsicker, PA)

11/14, 2252, 6930usb. Rock music at S9+20. HFU [www].hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,89131.0.html has many logs but none later than 2229 of Outhouse Radio, relaying

On Barrington Hills IL sdr, fair/poor S3 to S7 signal with semi-rapid fading, various pop/rock tunes that I can't ID, DJ=Dick Weed said my name on air after reading HF underground, BTW, Mr. Weed please don't call me "Billy", I'm 75¾ years old, Dick Weed apologized on air but it's okay it's cool, I'm not offended, at 2345 signal improved to S9 with punk rock tune sung by a woman, said goodbye and signed off at exactly 2348utc, thanks for the nice program. 11/13, 2244, 6925am. On Barrington Hills IL sdr, weak S5 signal under normal noise level, hear weak heavy metal music, signal increased to S7-S9 by 2343utc. (Hassig-IL)

11/14, 2253, 6925am. JBA talk in the shadow of 6930-USB; no logs on HFU until Pandemic Radio starting up at 0132 Nov 15 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

11/18, 0710, 6925am. At 0710 I also have a JBA carrier here. Coastal Rock Radio had been reported much earlier in HFU, and on 6924.9, Pandemic Radio (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

11/18, 2006-2013+, 6925.3am. Music & talk at QRN level; covered by pulse & buzz burst QRM. ID per e-mail from WBOG. (Frodge-MI)

11/18, 2032-2055, 6925.4am. Bits and pieces from many pirate radio broadcasts. For a report to the HFU, a QSL arrived in my inbox at 2043. Unusable at 2032 but conditions slowly improved to "fair" by 2054. (Hunsicker, PA)

11/19, 1838, 6925usb. WDOG. Music, Beach Boys, Good Vibrations. "That's all folks" at 1839 and into dog sounds and off. Very good, s9. 1841, back on with music, Turtles, Happy Together; "WDOG" jingle and host talk; Jimi Hendrix, Purple Haze with dog sounds mixed in; Donovan, Sunshine Superman. 1849, Pink Floyd, See Emily Play. 1852, Doors, Light My Fire. CW and dog sounds mixed with the music throughout the broadcast. Dogs whining and off at 1859. s9, very good. (Will-MD)

** Wolverine Radio

11/14, 0104, 4015usb was 6050usb. On Barrington Hills IL sdr with weak S5 signal, tried Normal IL sdr and barely audible there, Hear woman singing "no no they can't take that away from me", Wolverine moved to 4015usb and is S5 to S7 on Barrington Hills IL sdr, Barrington Hills IL sdr froze up so I tried Champaign IL sdr at 0135utc with S7 to S9 signal, song "twisting the night away", various songs with the word "away" in them, echo ID at 0216 then SSTV/FAX, nice program, thanks. 11/14, 0144-0150+, 4015usb. Pop ditties, no obvious theme; WR ID @0144+. S9 (Frodge-MI)

** YHWH

11/18, 2245, 11840am. In progress at tune-in, heard on SW-2000629 and 16' antenna, fully lighting little green tuning eye with the signal. Readings from Isaah, Psalms and Ezekiel,("yah-hah-VAY"). starting 10 Commandments at 2255 and into the burn-your-flags part after 2300. Long deep fade at 2310 and Days of Hard Life making it thru the static at 2313. Back to S-9 and closing remarks, "I love you folks, bye bye until next time", off at 2318. Very Good (Barton-AZ)

11/18, 2305, 11840am. Barely audible, bur recognizeable voice of Josiah under the QRN, Tnx to tip from Rick Barton (Frodge-MI)

** Zeeky

11/13, 2308-2317+, 4070usb. Folksy tunes; Zeeky referred to most music on pirate radio as “crap”, yet he mostly plays music. SIO=3+53 (Frodge-MI)

11/18, 2309-2310*, 4070usb. Don't know what guise for this broadcast, but undoubtedly the Man. Advises us that he is about to sign off and then "Take care." C&W duet and then, extraordinarily, he signed off! (45443, Hunsicker, PA)
