** Andrew Yoder on Coast To Coast AM, 10 September 2001

Pirate Radio enthusiast Andrew Yoder is interviewed by Art Bell, of Coast To Coast AM, Monday, September 10, 2001. This was just hours before the 9/11/2001 events. Recording was via off-air from Rochester, NY's, 1280AM WHTK with a Realistic #12-655 mid-70's portable radio. Time = 1hr 57min.

(ThaDood via email. See below for a log of this aircheck being relayed on free radio.)

** Mix Radio International

MRI writes me early UT Sept 9:

``Hello Glenn. I am working on another classical show. I may load it into radio broadcast software I am testing. If the propagation is good and band noise is low maybe this Thursday or Friday or Saturday evening around 2200 UTC. I will try to use the 43M band. You can publicize it. Thank you for posting your QSL on WOR.

By the way if you listen on a Kiwi SDR move the left slider little below into LSB. This will pick up my bass audio. Move the right slider out to 6K for the highs. You can also use IQ mode and open the right slider all the way to 6 Kc. I mostly use IQ mode on kiwi. My audio response is from 10 Hz up to (12.5 Kc SSB sometimes).

This is a air check of MRI done by a listener with a SDR opened up to our full bandwidth. He is just a little off frequency otherwise a great recording.

Thanks

Busy producing WOR Thu Sept 9 at 2200, couldn`t check but no reports of it yet in HFU. Time later in evening would be better like before until 0340* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** Ball Smacker Radio

9/11, 0100, 6960am. Ball Smacker Radio 0100utc on Barrington Hills IL sdr, fair S9 to S9+10 signal, heard Ballsmacker ID with bowling sound, song "wild horses" by rolling stones. (Hassig-IL)

9/11, 0101, 6960am. Ball Smacker Radio. Music, Rolling Stones, Wild Horses; Jan and Dean, Ride The Wild Surf. 41 dBu, good. 0220, Talking Heads, Wild Wild Life. 0218, bowling pins sound and Ball Smacker Radio ID. 0227, Lou Reed, Walk On the Wild Side. 0230, SSTV. (Will-DE)

** Coast To Coast AM/Art Bell/Andy Yoder

9/13, 0230, 6950usb. I`m trying to hear something else on a TN SDR but it`s busy, but someone in Houston is tuned to 6950-USB, so it must be a pirate, so I camp on that too. It`s a recording of an old C2CAM show with Art Bell interviewing someone about pirate radio. Someone here thinx it`s Andy Yoder: [www.hfunderground.com] apparently as displayed on the SSTV. Some storm noise and fades, 0236 pitch for QSL cards from a PO Box in zip 49016, which is Battle Creek MI; then plays a clip of some pirate. 0244 clip about wine? and a bit of `Also Sprach Zarathustra`. 0246 interrupted by SSTV until 0247* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** Fox News Relay

9/12, 1813, 6970am. Fox News Relay, poor but steady signal. Still there at 2210 check, now fair to good signal. (Will-DE)

9/13, 2257, 6970am and usb. Voice in AM & pulse jammer in USB. Perhaps the voice is the Fox News relay & someone has taken it upon himself to jam/censor it. Juuuust what we need, a pirate censor. Yes, Sheldon, that was sarcasm. (Frodge-MI)

** KIPM

9/11, 0001, 6960usb. 0001utc on the Barrington Hills IL sdr, fair/poor signal, hear strange sounds like that of the old KIPM, at 0005 utc heard the KIPM ID, operator said "illuminati prima materia", gave old post office box address which probably no longer works. (Hassig-IL)

** Mix Radio International

9/10, 2326, 6880usb. Mix Radio International. 2326utc on Barrington Hills IL sdr, good S9+10 signal, hear classical music, Mix ID by woman, then "anvil chorus" from the opera il travatore by Giuseppe Verdi, Mix ID, more classical, nice program, thanks, at 0027utc signal as high as S9+20 on peaks, at 0050utc "fanfare for the common man" by Aaron Copland, at 0110utc "can can" then Mix ID then "ride of the valkyrie" by Wagner, at 0157utc switched to Normal IL sdr, S9 to S9+10 signal, the Normal IL sdr is bit off frequency, after about 0210utc Handle's "water music". (Hassig-IL)

9/11, 0200, 6880usb. As in last report, Mix Radio International planned to be back with a new classical music broadcast on Friday or Saturday evening. That`s confirmed on the WOR iog at 0125 UT Sat Sept 11: ``[WOR] Mix Radio International 6.880 MHz USB is quite loud in central NC tonight with relaxing classical music (55545 with a small amount of QSB). Doug, KA5ETS`` White. 6880-USB, I tune in at 0200, S9/+10 into Maryland SDR, while mainly audioviewing Fahrenheit 9/11 on Youtube as provided by Michael Moore. This time there are too-frequent ID breaks and requests for reports of Mix Radio International WorldWide, by YL robovoice, so the music is only in snippets despite the well-developed attention spans of classical fans. Great for DX IDing, however, as some pirates never/hardly ever ID. I note all these breaks but may have missed a few more: 0219, 0223, 0227, 0230, 0235, 0242, 0248, 0257, 0308, 0311, 0318, 0320, 0334, 0341, 0345, 0351, 0353, 0400 until 0401* by when it has faded to S5/S6. A few of the musix noted: Water Music, William Tell Overture, Also Sprach Zarathustra (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** Nowhere Radio

9/10, 2334, 6974.9am. Nowhere Radio. 2334utc on Barrington Hills IL sdr, fair S9 to S9+10 signal, pleasant light jazz music followed by heavy metal tune, the Nowhere Radio transmitter has excellent bass response. (Hassig-IL)

** Outhouse Radio

9/12, 0112, 6925usb. Outhouse Radio. 0112utc on Normal IL sdr, fair S7 to S9 signal, acoustic blues guitar solo, at 0116 SSTV/FAX, another acoustic blues guitar solo, at 0135 SSTV/FAX, more blues guitar, at 0154utc SSTV/FAX, more blues guitar, SSTV/FAX at 0200 then off air, nice program, thanks for the good music. (Hassig-IL)

** Radio Genix

9/12, 0050, 6950usb. Genix Radio 0050utc on the Normal IL sdr, fair/poor S7 to S9 signal, various pop tunes, at 0107 song "the boys are back in town". (Hassig-IL)

9/12, 1525, 6950am. Repeated IDs by robot male, "You are listening to Radio Genix". A few seconds later, music, Geordie Kieffer, Red Line; 1532, I'm a loser baby so why don't you kill me. Still going with alt music mix at 1603 check. 10-20 dBu, variable, very good AM sound. (Will-DE)

** Unid

9/11, 0247, 6925am. Unid, rock music, poor signal, 8 dBu. (Will-DE)

9/11, 2013, 6950usb. Music under QRN. Is this all pirates have to offer these days? YHWH Josiah is more entertaining. (Frodge-MI)

9/11, 2313, 6975am. Tuned into this huge signal and heard one tune. Shazam couldn't identify it. Sounded kind of like a garage band. Then off. Big signal in central Kentucky (Gay-KY)

9/12, 0205-0213+, 6950usb. Police Every Move She Makes then electropop. SIO=353 (Frodge-MI)

9/13, 2254, 6950usb. She Blinded Me With Science. SIO=2+53- (Frodge-MI)

** WDOG

9/11, 0238, 6960am, WDOG. Music, The Beatles, The Night Before. Somewhat low modulation but nice AM sound. Off at 0241. At 0250, music from the Beatles anthology and "WDOG" ID. (Will-DE)

** YHWH

9/11, 1534, 11840am. Station YHWH is on at S9 direct, usual earnest anti-Christ assertions. This time I beat Rick Barton, AZ in notifying the WOR iog by only one minute, but he was not hearing Josiah Elias until 1540 tune-in (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

== FM ==

9/15, 1415, 87.7fm. Rap and hip hop music heard in Damascus and faded away near Laytonsville. Poor signal but steady for ten miles. 1945, rap faded in in the Damascus area again, overall poor signal. This is the first thing I've heard on 87.7 here since Franken FM WDCN-LP went silent after their license expired on July 14. (Will-MD)

9/15, 1450, 87.7fm. Talk, seems like some kind of self-help discussion. Briefly fair to good signal in northern Rockville. (Will-MD)

9/17, 1835, 90.3fm. Long running Frederick, Maryland pirate running sixties and seventies pop hits. Very good signal in southern Frederick, Buckeystown and Ballenger Creek area. (Will-MD)
