The FREE RADIO WEEKLY (FRW) is an internet newsletter devoted to the hobby of listening to free radio, “pirate,” broadcasters in the shortwave radio bands. The FRW is produced by the free radio community and is distributed to those who contribute.

77 Lima Juliet Sierra

77 Lima Juliet Sierra, 11/29, 2222, 6930usb. Via the Barrington Hills IL sdr with fair/poor S5-S9 signal and some fading, rebroadcast of old Casey Kasem American top 40 program from 20 Oct 1984 including old commercials, old CBS newscast, at 2233 switched to Brookfield WI sdr with better signal, song "better be good to me" by Tina Turner, at 2244 switched to Fair Hill MD sdr with good S9+10 signal and use IQ for good fidelity, at 2316 request by writer to AT40 for song "hell is for children" by Pat Benatar. At 2325 gave 77LJS ID then said goodbye then off. Back then I never listened to AT40 because I listened to alternative rock and NPR but it's nice to hear AT40 now, thanks for the program. 77 Lima Juliet Sierra, 11/29, 2226-2325*, 6030usb. Via a recording, a program in progress. A rebroadcast of an American Top 40 show from 20 October 1984. Kasey Kasem at his best! The show seemed to be recorded from a recent broadcast from KPPT-FM, 100.7, which announced the original show date. (35453, Hunsicker, PA)

Boombox Radio

Boombox Radio, 11/26, 0102-0210, 6935am. Via a recording, the program began with R&B, then an ID by a YL at 0104 and another ID at 0119. The sound was often distorted, almost unusable. Faint and unusable at 0153 or so. (35443, Hunsicker, PA)

Boombox Radio, 11/26, 0120-0136, 6935. Tuned in to hear a man announcer with station ID followed by rock vocals. Fair signal although somewhat noisy conditions. (D’Angelo-PA)

Bork, Bork Radio

Bork, Bork Radio, 11/25, 2359-0126, 6957usb. Via a recording, the program started with music from a choir singing pop tunes, with a religious feel. Later, a change to hard rock. Strange. Waterfall images included a skull and crossed bones. SSTV in Scottie 1 was unreadable. “Bork, bork, bork” at the end. (35342, Hunsicker, PA)

Damn Skippy, 11/24, 0008, 6955usb. Via the Brookfield WI sdr with fair S7-S9 signal, hard rock music. (Hassig-IL)

KDOG, 11/27, 0206, 6950usb. Via the Brookfield WI sdr with fair S7-S9 signal, jazz guitar then talking at 0212 SSTV/FAX, blues guitar, 0230 SSTV/FAX then more blues guitar, 0238 SSTV/FAX then Morse code then off. (Hassig-IL)

Locomotive Radio, 11/28, 2225, 6925am. Via the Barrington Hills IL sdr with weak S7-S9 signal, barely hear audio, various tones after song and ID. (Hassig-IL)

Radio 48 via MRI

Radio 48 via MRI, 11/25, 2147, 12170usbl. Via the Brookfield WI sdr with fair S7-S9 wideband signal with vestigial LSB, pop music then heavy metal, at 2157 talking and siren sound then ID. (Hassig-IL)

Renegade Radio, 11/25, 2128, 6930usb. Via the Brookfield WI sdr with fair S9+10 signal, sings "north to Alaska" and "sink the Bismarck" then song about Saturday night. (Hassig-IL)

Renegade Radio

Renegade Radio, 11/25, 2211-2307*, 6930.1usb. Program in progress with distorted Rock. Gone at 2214 and back at 2240 without the distortion. ID at 2307 and Goodnight. Old Rock, including the Beach Boys and Donovan and a commercial for a beer. 3200 Hz sounded best. (25352, Hunsicker, PA)

Shroomer Radio

Shroomer Radio Complete Edition, 11/25, 2235-2317, 6954usb. The program opened with endless, repetitive Techno music. Waterfall ID at 2248, also other waterfall images. Zeeky revealed himself at 2312, followed by his alter ego, the Jammer. 3400 Hz fit. (45555, Hunsicker, PA)

Shroomer Radio Complete Edition, 11/25 & 26, 2322, 6954usb. Via the Brookfield WI sdr with fair S9 signal, DJ talking and laughing at 2325 "rock around the clock" Bill Haley and the Comets, old timey C&W music, at 0003 some kind of data or fax. (Hassig-IL)

Thunder Chicken Radio

Thunder Chicken Radio, 11/26, 2131-2138*, 6955usb. Program in progress with Rock music. Only about 10 dB above the noise. Unusable until the Thunder Chicken closing sequence. (Hunsicker, PA)

Thunder Chicken Radio, 11/28, 2149, 6955.1usbl. Via the Barrington Hills IL sdr with fair S9-S9+10 signal, heavy metal rock, at 2230 SSTV/FAX. (Hassig-IL)

Two Dog Radio, 12/01, 0159, 6950usb. Via the Brookfield WI sdr with poor noisy S5-S7 signal, hard rock music, at 0201 Two Dog Radio ID then off. (Hassig-IL)

Unidentified

Unidentified, 11/25, 2355-0006*, 6930usb. Via a recording, a program in progress with faint Bluegrass. “John Henry.” (mostly unusable, Hunsicker, PA)

Unidentified, 11/26, 0108-0116*, 6945am. Via a recording, the program started with Who Do You Love. Then a data stream popped up, making the signal unusable. And then it was gone. (Hunsicker, PA)

Unidentified, 11/26, 0018, 6957usb. Via the Brookfield WI sdr with fair S9 signal, choral music with piano, at 0033 SSTV/FAX then rock music. (Hassig-IL)

Unidentified, 11/28, 2310, 6955usb. Rock music with yelling,
buried in local line noise level of S9+20 until R75 NB engaged to read
S9+10. Many logs here say it`s Thunder Chicken. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Unidentified, 11/30, 0647-0651*, 6950.14am. Via a recording, a carrier appeared, then a rendition of “Seventh Son.” Filled 10,000 Hz. The song ended and it was gone. (45443, Hunsicker, PA)

Unidentified, 12/1, 2234-2236*, 6911usb. A broadcast in progress with classical sounding music. About 10 dB above the noise. (Hunsicker, PA)

Wolverine Radio

Wolverine Radio, 11/26, 0056-0130, 6970usb. Via a recording, the broadcast started with the WR opening sequence. Enjoyed the music. 4000 Hz sounded good. (45554, Hunsicker, PA)

Wolverine Radio, 11/26, 0100, 6970usb. Via the Brookfield WI sdr with good S9+20+ signal, wide variety of songs with the word "rock" in them, excellent program as usual, thanks. At 0212 SSTV/FAX. (Hassig-IL)

Wolverine Radio, 11/26, 0105-0130, 6970usb. Heard “All She Wants to do is Rock” followed by a man announcer with station ID and more music. Heard Bill Haley and the Comets with “Rock Round the Clock” at 0124 followed by “Rockin’ Robin”. Very good signal. (D’Angelo-PA)
