All Times UTC

NORTH AMERICAN LOGS

77 Lima Juliet Sierra

08/23 & 24, 2252-0054*, 6930usb. Unusual that it was a bit over two hours. Also remarkable in that the operator called out to an HFU reporter. Long bits of classical music and shorter bits of talk. Seems to like Van Cliburn. 3000 Hz worked best. Not happy with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. (35443, Hunsicker, PA)

All Azteca Relay Service

08/19 & 20, 2329-0105*, 6935am. Via a recording. RA theme music came on at 2330 (carrier at 2329). #40, the 10th Anniversary Program; the Special Fest Broadcast; and the Music and ID special. Got beaten-up by the noise and DSP helped. Only 20 dB above the noise and I’m surprised it was as usable as it was. (25342, Hunsicker, PA)

Radio Azteca program 40 10th anniversary, 6935 am, 8-20-23, 0037 UTC on Barrington Hills IL sdr with weak noisy S7-S9 signal, "Deteriorata" by National Lampoon, (Deteriorata is a famous parody of Les Crane’s 1971 spoken word recording of Desiderata, the 1927 poem by Max Ehrmann, Desiderata is a Latin word meaning “things to be desired"). (Hassig-IL)

Filibuster Radio

08/19, 2146-2223*, 6930usb. Program in progress. Via a recording. ID at 2200, but indistinct, later an ID at 2217. Build this City, Listen to Your Heart, I’m a Man, others. 3000 Hz was the best bandwidth. (35343, Hunsicker, PA)

FOXY AM USB

08/24, 0200-0239*, 6925usb. Via a recording. Because of the noise and a weak signal, I’m not sure when it started. Only about 12 dB above the noise, reception was often marginal here. Ended after an SSTV transmission in Scottie 1 on 6925AM YONIQ/MMSSTV never opened for the AM signal, but the recording allowed me to try things. There was an image in USB, but LSB was not as robust, and it stopped and restarted twice. No fidelity was lost at 2800 Hz. (25342, Hunsicker, PA)

Radio 48

08/19 & 20, 2328-xxxx, 6865usb. Via a recording. Found weak music at 2328, then it burst into full song—50 dB over the noise and 14,000 / 10,000 Hz bandwidth. More power is such a great solution for noise! (55454, Hunsicker, PA)

Radio 48 via Mix Radio International, 6865 usb, 8-20-23, 0026 utc on Barrington Hills IL sdr with fair S9 +/- signal, pop tune from circa 1990, Radio 48 ID by male and female, dance music, at 0032 switched to Traverse City MI sdr with better S9 to S9+20 signal, wideband signal, variety of pop and rock music, still on at 0223 utc, thanks for the tunes. (Hassig-IL)

6865 USB>LSB, Aug 20 at 0125, rock music with heavy beat which continues as various IDs talk over it: 0126 YL with ``Mix Radio International``. 0132: ``You are listening to Radio 48 on Mix Radio International ... dares to be different``. 0134, ``Riders on/of the Storm`` song. It`s mainly USB but also audible when I switch to LSB with much lower modulation. There is no carrier. A VG S9/+20 signal, the OPOB = only pirate on band. I compare it to the non-pirate WBCQs presumably with much bigger transmitters: MRI with better signal than 5130+, 6160-, 9330, slightly less than 7490-, but *louder* than any of them! (Hauser-OK)

Radio Free Whatever

08/21, 0025-0124*, 6950usb. Program in progress. Via a recording. Dick’s transmitter went off for a few minutes and the HFU alerted him. 4000 Hz bandwidth clipped much of the noise. (35343, Hunsicker, PA)

WANK

the Anchor, 0821, 0025-0104*, 6940usb. Program in progress. Via a recording. The theme was songs the Beatles wrote but thought were not good enough and gave them away. Some real dogs and some that did well on the Pop/Rock charts. Sounded good at 4000 Hz. (45454, Hunsicker, PA)

Workin’ Man

08/21, 0032-0040*, 6930am. Via a recording. Starting at 0032 a carrier was there and not. Opened with “I’m a Workin’ Man.” ID at 0039 and chats a bit. The recorded audio was great, but the announcer’s voice was distorted. Gone at 0040. (45454, Hunsicker, PA)

WTF Radio Worldwide

08/21, 0124-0233*, 6950usb. Via a recording. Opened with the WTF vibraphone theme. 38 dB above the noise. ID at 0128. Nice signal at 4800 Hz. (45554, Hunsicker, PA)

Yeah Man Radio

08/20, 0105-0200*, 6925usb. Pop music. ID at 0109ish and other times. Older Pop / Rock. 3000 Hz was a good fit. Nice selection of tunes. (35443, Hunsicker, PA)

Thunder Chicken Radio

6865 usb, 8-25-23, 0013 on Traverse City SDR with fair S9+10 to S9+20 signal, hear heavy metal rock music, at 0047 up to S9+30 at times, Van Halen "running with the devil", at 0102 switched to Barrington Hills IL sdr with fair signal, at 0118 Van Halen "dance the night away", at 0130 SSTV/FAX, thanks for the tunes. (Hassig-IL)

6950 USB Thunder Chicken, 2347, 8.17.23. Started with a set of music by Jimmy Buffett including ‘Fins’, ‘A Pirate Looks At Forty’, and ‘Jamaca Mistaica’, “cluck, cluck, cluck” with Thunder Chicken noting that the last song was from a true incident. “You got Thunder Chicken here.” Says that despite poor conditions, he will be on “a while.” Into a section of music by Jethro Tull including ‘Love Story’, ‘Life is a Long Song’, several others, ending with ‘Cross Eyed Mary’. Ran an SSTV at 0048 and a waterfall image at 0105 however missed decoding both here. Ending sequence: ‘Ghost Chickens in the Sky’, “From the barnyard. Bouncing off the ionosphere. This is Thunder Chicken Radio” w/ Thunder sfx, 0125 off. Despite TC’s talk of poor conditions, reception was fair to good here with some lightning QRN. (Taylor – Wi.)

Ballsmacker Radio

6960 AM Ballsmacker Radio, 0159, 8.19.23. ‘Shooting Star’ – Bad Company, ‘Particle Man’ – They Must be Giants, ID w/ eQSL offer for theme of tonight’s show, ‘Circles’ – Passenger, ‘As Sky Full of Stars’ – Coldplay. At 0213 there was a sudden decrease in signal strength from fair although noisy with lightning QRN to very poor; unlistenable. So I stopped listening. (Taylor – Wi.)

77LIS

6930 usb, 8-23-23, 0038 on Traverse City MI sdr with fair but noisy S9+10 signal, hear classical music on piano, at 0052 male host said "Van Cliburn", more talk then off. (Hassig-IL)

UNIDS

08/20 0419-0503*, 6865usb. Started 16 minutes after Radio 48 stopped. Electronic Pop music. 44 dB over the noise. 14,000 Hz fit. Words just before sign-off were “Enjoy the silence” by an OM. (55454, Hunsicker, PA)

08/21, 0230-0308*, 6930usb. Program started with music from K. D. Lang. Almost all K. D. Lang. Likely a recording of a concert. Great music! 3200 Hz fit best. Sounds of cats meowing. Perhaps a waterfall image at 0306; maybe a cat? (35453, Hunsicker, PA)

6930 usb, 8-20-23, 2111 UTC on Barrington Hills IL sdr with weak S5 noise level signal, heard woman singing then saxophone playing a jazz tune at S7 level, at 2120 switched to Traverse City MI sdr with slightly better S7-S9 signal, saxophone with male singing. (Hassig-IL)

EURO AND SOUTH AMERICA LOGS

Station 4940 COLOMBIZUELA

4940, Aug 13 at 0707, JBA carrier vs HSNL, so Station 4940 is back on air after missing since Aug 9; also heard earlier tonight by Manuel Méndez, Spain (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

R. Spaceshuttle

9290.017, Aug 18 at 2010, presumed R. Spaceshuttle International, poor signal with rock music, interspersed with DJ talk, Dick Spacewalker, S7/S8 into UTwente, probably too close, getting residual groundwave or backscatter. 21st anniversary special supposed to last all weekend, See [spaceshuttleradio.freeservers.com] It`s after 1400 Aug 18 but I do not see anything more specific about birthday schedule than 9290. Website has roster of everyone (?) reporting or QSLed over the years. I`m there once for: ``21st of April 2012, VOR Extra, 15843 usb`` (Glenn Hauser, OK)

EURO AND SOUTH AMERICAN UNID:

None

QSLS / SSTV / OTHER STUFF

(Hunsicker-PA)

In reference to: Station 4940 COLOMBIZUELA

-- Ron Howard replies:
``Hi Glenn - To tell you the truth, I thought they recently changed their schedule, as I have noted them off the air a number of times when I scan by 4940 during the night (0700+ UT). Ron (California)``

I seldom monitor after 0700; assumed anything on as late as 2 or 3 am local would stay all night, but seems not in this case. Also: Manuel Méndez, Lugo, Spain, Aug 10 at 2101: ``4940, no audio, no carrier yesterday and today in the early morning here in Reinante, NW of Spain. Confirmed out of the air via Bonaire SDR Kiwi remote receiver`` (Glenn Hauser, OK)
