The Free Radio Weekly (FRW) is an internet newsletter devoted to the hobby of listening to free radio "pirate" broadcasters in the shortwave radio bands. The FRW is produced by the free radio community and distributed to those who contribute.

The weekly deadline is Saturdays at 0000 UTC (Friday night in North America). Please send your logs to all the editors, as our editing schedule is subject to last minute changes. Thank you for your inpoots!

10/15, 0103, 6960am. On Barrington Hills IL sdr with weak poor S5 to S7 signal, at 0107 switched to Brookfield WI sdr with varying S7 to S9+10 signal, various tunes with a "game" theme. (Hassig-IL)

10/21, 2331, 6955usb. SSTV, and into technotrance-like music. Hard copy, ID from SSTV decode on the hfu. s3/s5. (Will-MD)

** High Lift Radio / Outhouse Radio

10/14, 2327-0042*, 6960usb. IDs as High Lift Radio through-out the BC, but SSTV at 0040 shows Outhouse Radio. Bells, laughter, chatter, and music. Plagued by noise. (25342, Hunsicker, PA)

10/15, 1309-1358*, 6925am. Carrier appeared at 1309 and then Halloween music. Emmanuel Goldstein is operator, and this was a special European edition. Mail drop and QSL info. Code ID at 1322 that I could not read. (45453, Hunsicker, PA)

10/16, 2331-2334+, 6880am. Another rock music pirate; Stones’ ditty to voice ID @2333:30. SIO=453 (Frodge-MI)

10/17, 0058, 6880am. Several IDs in a row, into a program of oldies Top 40’s program including “Whem I am your baby” and ”Johnny Angel” with periodic IDs … off 0304. Fair to good. (Taylor – WI)

10/15, 2320, 4124usb. On Barrington Hills IL sdr with weak S3 to S5 signal, hear rock music just over the noise. (Hassig-IL)

** Old Time Radio Show

10/19, 0104-0133*, 6930usb. Halloween songs, many about goblins. IDs @ 0112 and 0125. Announcer talks over the music. Fuzzy, perhaps the bandwidth (3000 Hz) was a bit narrow? (35353, Hunsicker, PA)

10/15, 0004, 6960usb. On Barrington Hills IL sdr with weak S5 signal, mournful pipe organ music, came back at 0010 utc and various Halloween heavy metal tunes. (Hassig-IL)

10/15, 0229-0252, 6950usb. ID at 0240 and an SSTV ID at 0251. Heavy metal music. Just usable most of the time. (25432, Hunsicker, PA)

10/15, 2317, 6933usb. Contemporary dance music, talk at one point however noisy and weak signal so could not understand, SSTV (a goblin) before going off. Off and on for the next hour which I did not track with other pirates also on. Others reported an Outhouse SSTV ID at the end of the last program. Poor – fair at times. (Taylor - WI)

10/15, 2323, 6933usb. On Barrington Hills IL sdr with fair S5 to S7 signal, sounds like heavy metal rock, at 0020 utc SSTV/FAX then another one at 0022 utc. (Hassig-IL)

Outhouse Radio w/’strange stuff’ like “Sugar, Sugar” (The Archies) but w/sheep bleats and ‘skipping record’ effects and at :45 something with a heavily synthesized drum track and more ‘heavy metal’ type music that I don’t have a clue about. Then some ‘spooky environmental’ stuff, again, no clue what it was. Several fuzzy SSTVs and some ‘Robo-YL echo repeats of ‘radio’ between the SSTVs at 0020-22. Then more hard rock stuff. Creepy 1950s/1960s style music, The Mummy's Bracelet by Lee Ross. 2258, Contrails, Mummy Walk, Walking Death. 2302, spoken word bit, and into Werewolf by Carl Bonafede. 2304, more werewolf rock, "everybody howl". 2306, Teenage Werewolf movie trailer, into I Was a Teenage Monster by The Keynotes. 2310, Teenage Creature by Lord Luther. SSTV at 2312. 2314, Creature From Outer Space by Sonny Day. SSTV again at 2224 and into the classic "The Blob". Off at 2330. s9, good. (Will-MD)

On Barrington Hills IL sdr, came on at 2358 utc with S7 to S9+ signal, song "radio man" by Al Jolson, old timey country tune about radio, Joni Mitchell "you turn me on I'm a radio", "radio" themed program with various tunes with the word "radio" in them, at 0048 John Hiatt "pirate radio", at 0101 utc echo ID then SSTV/FAX, thanks for the nice program. Wolverine Radio w/“can anybody hear me” “Interval Signal” and into “Mr Radio Man” (Al Jolsen) (A tune from the Jazz Singer you just don’t hear enough!), “Rhythm on the Radio” “Louis Prima), “Heaven’s Radio” (Molly O’Day & the Cumberland Mountain Folks), “You Turn Me On I’m a Radio” (Joni Mitchell). Also played (Warren Zevon) “Mohammed’s Radio” and “Radio Radio” (Elvis Costello & The Attractions) among lots of other ‘radio’ themed stuff and of course, “Radio Nowhere” (Bruce Springsteen) to round out the hour. On Barrington Hills IL sdr with fair S7 to S9 signal and heard oinking noises and then "this is the voice of the trough, WPIG", various heavy metal tunes, variety of hard rock tunes sung by women, at 0100 CW ID (?) then Porky Pig saying "that's all folks" with merry melodies music then off air. 10/15, 0026, 6950usb. Pig and pork related songs with frequent IDs including “Pigs in Zen” – Jane’s Addiction, “Piggies” – Beatles, “Pigs on the Wing 1” – Pink Floyd. Pigmeat came on and acknowledged WDOG as relaying the program (with some reservations as dogs have been known to eat pig meat) … Good, S8 signal. (Taylor - WI)
