Not sure who this is or what it is. Only get a het, can't make out any speech or music. Just know there is a signal on 25.990by Pat Murphy - Oddities
1940's dance music right now. There was an ID at 2125UTC and I'm pretty sure it was Greek.(thanks Bram) Signal picked up so it was a solid 30+DB. SIgnal was squarely on frequency 9420. But very interesting catch and odd music rotation. TNX for loggin it.by Pat Murphy - Oddities
Well taking that logic (?) to the natural end result, wouldn't having to use a "radio" receiver to "hear" a pirate, be cheating? By this standard, only someone sitting in an audience or next to the Pirate making a broadcast would in fact be "hearing" the Pirate. Using a radio would be "cheating" as you needed an electronic device that decodes the signal,by Pat Murphy - The Grapevine
We used to send the new recruits down to supply to get a gallon of "frequency grease"! They were told that this would make the frequencies travel off the antenna faster and that their radio's would be heard better by greasing it up. That and they were told to ask for ST-1's and TR double E's. Supply Sgt would get back at us by sending Bath robes instead of rations. Oh what fun we haby Pat Murphy - Oddities
I rubbed about a gallon of frequency grease on the antenna, now you want me to turn it on? If that doesn't turn it on nothing will.by Pat Murphy - Oddities
I wonder if I put my IFB earpiece in, if I could hear them?by Pat Murphy - Oddities
If I put it in USB I hear a het but nothing with FM. Will keep trying. Maybe there is a magic duct that is open directly to your QTH from Denver?by Pat Murphy - Oddities
I wasn't comparing eqsl's to SDR but making the observation that both are part of the advance of technology. There's no controversy here, its simply a discussion about how the technology has changed the playing field of Pirate Radio. Personally I don't see a problem with an SDR recording of a pirate station, then that person reporting what they heard. Was it real time? No. But so what? Theby Pat Murphy - The Grapevine
Could the same be said of e-qsl's? JTA its the 21st Century. Just like the face of the hobby changed when A*C*E* stopped publishing because Internet sites offered immediate information and there was no need for a printed newsletter with month old information. The way people listen has drastically changed as well. If the receiver is logging the date/time/frequency and you hear the program, whaby Pat Murphy - The Grapevine
Brother Lee: Do you have a recommendation for which software to use with this little gem?by Pat Murphy - The Workshop
I did notice that, but it came from a scanner board. However SDR seems to indicate to me, that it would tune wherever you programmed. This is actually a tv tuner that the scanner (scum)(due respects) have adapted to police scanning. Maybe we can adapt it to Pirate listening too. The software looks pretty cool with spectrum displays and graphs. Guess we'll see when it arrives. Hey for just $by Pat Murphy - The Workshop
Found this recently and ordered one. Will let you know if it works. If it does, beats the hell out of the $1,000 club. I can do without some of the bells and whistles for $20! SDR for under $20?by Pat Murphy - The Workshop
Wasn't sure what this was until I saw the log. TNX Bram.....Barely a het, could tell something was there but no audio. Not a good night on the Outer Banks, storms off the coast causing an enormous amount of QRN. It hasn't stopped raining for 8 days here. That "weird reverb" comes from additional receivers being on (same frequency) in adjacent radio-watch vans. They do their communications from a Comm Watch Van. 1/4 the size of a mobile homeby Pat Murphy - Oddities
"Crooked Man" strange? 14350 would put it more in the bored Ham operator category but like Pirate Operators they are being guided by another voice. Now I'll be looking for it. Could there be something after Marshall Applewhite, Bonnie Nettles, Comet Hale–Bopp???by Pat Murphy - The Grapevine
I'm fairly certain the Bethel, PA transmitter site is still working. The website says they are still broadcasting and even have a time schedule up: From Wikipedia: "The term tetragrammaton (from Greek τετραγράμματον, meaning "four letters")[1][2] refers to the Hebrew theonym (Hebrew: יהוה) transliterated to the Latin letters YHWH. It may be derived from the verb that means &quby Pat Murphy - The Grapevine
6950.3USB As per Bram much better in USB. SIO343 2232 - Caught the end of this one. He was talking about Ultraman coming back on and doing a show. said time was 2239. said it was "so easy to hit the switch and go on for an hour". Said he would "gather my thoughts and come back on". Then went into a rock tune. TNX Dr. Who for the show.by Pat Murphy - Free Radio Logs

WOW! Killer good signal, Undercover Radio 6940AM. 1500-1512UTC, SIO454 Benway talking about doing mobile broadcast early in his pirate career. At 1508 ID "This is Undercover Radio and now back to the tunes", into loud guitar riff and song. Said he was "broadcating from our 1000 watt mobile". Gave Merlin QSL addr. Said they were sending out a 20th anniversary QSL. Greatby Pat Murphy - Free Radio Logs
6925.2USB too much noise to listen in AM SIO323 1330-still on song about wedding and a CB sounding voice answering questions. No QSL info so far. Comedy routine, can hear audience laughing but can't make out the jokes.by Pat Murphy - Free Radio Logs
Barely able to pull out from the noise, did hear Johnny Cash song but somebody keyed up on top of him. 6950 only able to copy anything with USB mode, 2350utc SIO222 lost to interference from another station.by Pat Murphy - Free Radio Logs
6925.2USB Radio Pie-sano (Pisano?) SIO454 2330-2340 very nice signal into Outer Banks tonight. Song about "Pisano's all around" sung to a jig type tune. Another song where "bippity-bippity-bop" was the chorus. starting to fade at 2340. First time hearing this one.by Pat Murphy - Free Radio Logs
Listening to Mouth of Mohammad on 6950khz. AM SIO334 2310-UTC songs about Mohammad and I think they're making fun of Mohammad. Mostly rock songs.by Pat Murphy - Free Radio Logs

Maybe the lesson here is, drop Pirate Radio coverage and you drop subscribers. I know Popcomm felt the pressure and brought it back after discovering that the market didn't need another Ham magazine.by Pat Murphy - The Grapevine
1710khz, Outer Banks, NC is buzzing with all kinds of signals. Got a preacher in New Orleans (or at least he says he is) some Spanish that is ID'ing as "New York" and it seems that every evening around Greyline time, something new pops in. Lot of TIS stations on 1700 but 1710 is purely illegals. Heard one on 1720 back in March but haven't heard anything again that high up. 1710khz sby Pat Murphy - Medium Wave Logs
I know for a fact the Navy and USMC use the frequencies from 6700-7000 for not only voice comms, but CW, RTTY, SITOR and other modes. The warning was "stay away from the Hams as much as you can, BUT.......if you need to do a short test, and there aren't any strong signals nearby, go ahead for a short time". For the most part the Navy/USMC don't typically even listen before tuning up aby Pat Murphy - Oddities
