Just above my noise level. Maybe peaked at S1. 6925AM, sounded like Ani DiFranco. Couldn't make out an ID.by ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
Caught the end of Edmund Fitzgerald Radio, 6925AM, 22:25 - 22:29UTC. Came upon what sounded like a two-way maritime QSO, followed by a list of ship crew members, then ID of Edmund Fitzgerald Radio, e-mail at edmundfitzgeralradio@gmail.com , then bell toby ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
Wow!!! 10M and 11M bands just exploding with activity. Check out Even WWV booming a solid S9 on 25MHz even, and recalibrated my IC-745 to it. Hear a fading carrier on 25.950MHz, but no audio.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Yeah, thank John. My bad, thought that I heard a "B" instead of a "T" with just that one ID, then to quickly hear the e-mail rattled off. Certainly makes more sense with Halloweenie. Hi-hi.......by ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
Just caught the butt-end of this one, (I was having too much fun chasing 10M DX up untill then.), 23:45UTC tuned into an S7 peak, 6950USB, station jamming power heavy metal (Very much Slayer-like.), followed by a harmonized monster ID'ing as Sabin Radio at sabinradio@gmail.com (Did I get that right?),by ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
Yep, looks more like a translator cop-out, if you ask me, Of course, if more commercial AM stations abandon the MW band that can only mean more room for the 100mW and AM Carrier-Current Part #15'ers, right? Heck, if the commercial stations don't want it, we'll take it.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
The short answer, any. Lots of folks use leftover speaker wire. Old, ripped up, extension cords are another good alternative. For receiving purposes, any random length wire could be used. Heck, I've still seen rolls of #26AWG wire being sold at dollar stores for a $1.00 a 25ft roll.by ThaDood - The Workshop
Caught this just before supper, but great +20/9 signal at my end when I tuned in for only a minute of it, just to hear blues around 01:20UTC.by ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
PIEXX had me return the wrong board for an exchanged one labeled IC-745. Popped it in and on initial setup it briefly did the HAM bands, then seemed to default back to 40-some MHz. After a couple more initial restarts, with no luck, I looked at the jumpers. JMP1 was bridged like it should be, but I could see that JMP2 was soldered, then unsoldered. Put the Ohmmeter to JMP2 to read around 70 Ohms,by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Awh man... Big disappointment on that PIEXX board. They give ya choice of ordering the damn thing for what rig to set it up to, so I told them IC-745, it came jumpers for the IC-271A with a sticker marked that as well, while my paperwork from them shows a check-off for an IC-745. Gee, nice QA control. So, I figured, no biggy, just rejumper it for the IC-745. Soldering / unsoldering those mini juby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Interesting. Goto Art Bell's Mid-night In The Desert affiliate page, , scroll down to the bottom, and you'll see that Toronto's CFRB 1010AM has also joined as an affiliate. Everything that goes over CFRB get simulcasted over CFRX 6070KHz. So, looks like a 3rd shortwave station to catch Art Bell. COOL!!!!!by ThaDood - General radio discussion
As heard on Allan Weiner World-Wide, a test broadcast of Art Bell's Mid-night In The Desert will be Sunday night mid-night EST July 19th, or Monday morning the 20th, if you look at it that way, on WBCQ. You can listen to the 2hr AWW podcast for that, T-storms!!!! Go lie down!by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Whelp, the local newly signed-on LPFM station in my area wanted content and promotions, so I've gotten them both with a requested metal show (Called Capital Rips!), and bought an hour of time on WBCQ 7490KHz, 8PM EST Saturday night, or Sunday 00:00UTC. (Whichever way you interpret that.) So, if we can just keep these T-storms out of the way, HAPPY DX'ing!by ThaDood - General radio discussion
I don't mind reading those Radio Surviver e-articles about non-commercial college and LPFM stations, and other form of non-commercial media. Now, they've released a new podcast. Show #1 is over an hour and about 40MB. Check it out and, or, download it here, Looks like another decent show to air as well.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Interesting, Question is, will they accept Part #15 stations? I thought originally that there would be no commercials (CM), but break times for insertion on PSA's, PR's, ID's, etc. The way I read this stations must carry the "national" breaks, CM's that come with the show that are between the top and bottom of the hour, so I guess that LPFM's need not apply if there is commercialby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Boomer just FWR this to me, I hope that happens! Art Bell on WBCQ? I see it as a win / win for both Allan, Art, and the SW community.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Yep, looks like Art will be heard on shortwave as well on WTWW 5085KHz, here's what's on his Q&A page: Any free radio stations want to carry his show? Read what he says about terrestrial radio. Now, can we get Art to have more shows on free radio subjects again? Almost 15 years, not since Andrew Yoder interview, is far too long. (While you're at it, check the other UPDATES I'vby ThaDood - General radio discussion
A bit late to post this, but during that solar flare event I was trying to listen to Cleveland's 1100 WTAM to listen to C2C AM driving back from work. Instead of the usual MW regional propagation, from about 300 miles, it sounding very much like very distant propagation on the 31M, or 25M, bands with rapid fade and the wowwing effect in the audio. Definitely different propagation for MW.by ThaDood - Other logs
Oh yeah, more AM Stereo links, including how to build your own C-QUAM TX encoders and RX decoders: and Hey, $28.00 for a C-QUAM decoder board ain't bad.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Wow!!! I haven't checked out these AM Stereo Pages in about 15 years, but I'm still glad that they're up. And, most of these pages haven't been updated in about 15 years, but still a lot of great info to check out; Trust me, you'll spend hours reading these. I've corresponded with the dude that put this page up ON / OFF for a couple of years, and even bought a couple AM Stereo walkman poby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Here's an article on AM Digital IBOC and ALL digital tests, If anything, an interesting read.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Late night show of XLR8 found in USB on 6955KHz at 04:17UTC. Started at an S5 then faded down afterwords, stayed constant S1 from 04:30 onwards. Mx of 1st a funky soul jam, then ID, then a series of techno tunage afterwards with ID's. Very much WPMR-ish in style and format. Couldn't tell if done, or faded out by 05:00UTC. Very nice tight bass in audio for USB mode.by ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
And to a point, I agree with both of ya. Here's another thing to consider, if we, and the corporate markets, don't use the existing terrestrial broadcasting infrastructure, then who will use it? The government. Don't believe me? What's VOA, WWV, and AFRTN? Granted, I don't mind things like WWV, that's a useful tool that I don't mind my tax $$$ going to, but what FCC licensing does the gov do befoby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Has anyone heard it with its 140W at night? It has a pretty good daytime pattern at 10KW.by ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
Hear's a thought that will come out of left field, but I've contemplated what the FM broadcast band will look like in the future. Now, eventually there will be a total conversion to a digital format. It's going to happen, but just how it might happen is the question and here's the possible answer. The biggest gripe about IBOC, HD Radio, (Whatever the hell ya want to call it.), is that it hogs banby ThaDood - General radio discussion
At 20:00UTC could detect a fading carrier at 13.800MHz in USB mode, but nothing strong enough to pick for ID. Had to leave for work after that, so couldn't stay to see if signal improved.by ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
Now if this isn't a loud cry for pirates to take to the airwaves, then I don't know what is. It would certainly give them a kick. In various spots in the USA there's analog pirate TV for just that reason. There are still millions of analog RX'ing TV's and VCR's out there. Does Norway actually think that folks will just trash all of their analog radios, even in 2017? I don't think so. Over here, Iby ThaDood - General radio discussion
11M auxiliary station for KLDE on 25.910MHz NBFM. Much fading, with peaks up to S5. Format being crappy A/C. Yuk...by ThaDood - Other logs
Same here. Can just barely hear voice and detect fading carrier in USB. But, I am further inland and can just about hear this, albeit not enough to make it completely out. ------------------------------ More news as it happens! Film at 11! (Or at least a crappy MPEG2 version of it.)by ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
Now, I'm sure that your heard the PSA for where FEMA says it would be a good idea to disasters to turn on the FM chips that are supposedly in today's smartphones and that more folks would listen to FM radio again that way. (Ironically, I hear this aired on AM stations.) Well, I'm not really against the idea, but want to contemplate just how practical having that feature in the smartphone wby ThaDood - General radio discussion
