YES!!!! SHUT IT ALL DOWN! The FCC, IRS, SSA, FBI, BATF, CIA, NSA, DOT, FDA, DEA, NASA, NTA, DOD, FEMA, OSHA, FTC, FDA, CDC, FTC, DOC, TSA, and any other fed initials I may have forgotten. As far as I'm concern, BFD! And you know what will happen if this over blown beast does shut down? The sun will come up the next day. In fact, it may shine a little brighter.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Gee, about $13M for a 50KW MW station in NYC. That's almost a steal. What I can't believe is the explosion of MW stations puting out Catholic programing here in WV now. Do they really think that they're going to win over the multitude of Southern Baptists down here? Hmmmmmmmmmm...by ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
Well this is a 1/2-ass way to do it, but let's give it a go with this link: The link takes you to where I was able to post a .PDF. There's always a way around crap.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Any word on on-air testing before Friday's launch?by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Well, you don't get that much info from Global 24's site. I guess we have to wait until Halloween night for a stream URL and program sched, or for them to just go BOOO! Question is, will it be on-air this time next year? One can only hope so. I predict a lot of MP3 recorders rollin' from outputs of shortwave RX's Friday night. Now, if we can just keep those X and M class flares outta' the way.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Found this article interesting, “franken-fms”-get-longer-lives/272820 I've here of LPTV analog CH 6 TV station on-air to broadcast more like FM stations since most FM tuners can get 87.75MHz. I've listened to TV CH6 audio carriers on FM radios for years and it was neat to listen to Noon, or 6PM, news while on the road on the car stereo. If anything, it's interesting to us FM DX'ers.by ThaDood - General radio discussion

I was actually checking out the GNK Beacon on 13.564MHz CW, and actually heard the CW pulses on AM mode. Then, on a whim I checked out 25MHz to see if WWV was in there at 22:56 UTC. Sure enough, got it about an S4 on the 60ft longwire, so then switched to A-99 CB ANT, a solid S7, then some deep, slow, fading, then back to S7. Listened to top of the hour with no mention of the 25MHz side. Weird, bby ThaDood - Other logs
Does this mean that propagation will suck this weekend?by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Whelp, I was in WNY when the analog to DTV transition fully flipped in 2009. Buffalo, back in the 1950's, was chosen to server WNY (Western New York) and NWPA (North West Pennsylvania), a total of 10 counties, but covered way more towards CNY, PA, and a good portion of Southern Ontario, Canada. Three 100KW VHF station each on a 1,000ft tower, for ABC, NBC, and CBS. CH2 was in South Wales, NY (Seeby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Interesting. Apparently on broadcast TV stations there's a PSA running where they want you, the viewers, to call your congressman to tell he, she, it, that we want broadcast TV to still be free TV. Whelp, I went there for curiosity sake and sure enough, it's the NAB. Huh, now as much as I am for broadcast TV, and other over-the-air mediums, I've got to say that if broadcast over-the-airby ThaDood - General radio discussion
I suspect that this is old news to ya'll by now, but just in case you've missed it: Interestingly enough, just last week a new 200ft self supporting tower was built behind our middle school, and in a hurry. Even includes a white strobe at the top. So far, nothing is on it, yet. Tell ya what, I wouldn't mind having it. Well, this subject is kind of radio related, albeit 800MHz digital, andby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Whelp, I guess that answers my questions on whether inverter noise from EV's (electric vehicles) interferes with radio reception that I've asked about a few months ago. So, I guess if you want to listen to AM radio in EV's that you need to bring a portable radio, pull over, and shut down the car's power. Man!!! That's a buzz kill.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Driven past that at least a dozen times and have wondered about that site. Wholly schytt is right! Must be nice to have $$$$$ and time. Bet that he doesn't look forward to thunder storms.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Passing thought, but do you have DSL coming into your home? I do where I am, and can't wait for the fibre cable to come, since our DSL wipes out the upper portion of the MW band centered right on 1620KHz. However, I've heard what you have +/- 500KHz from that like irregular squeaks, which I suspect is slop over DSL HET with night time MW propagation. Just an observation from what I've experiencedby ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
Awh yeah? Then ya might like this site of amateur DX map QSO's that have folks have posted That's just for 144MHz (Or VHF high band.), this also let's ya know when UHF (432MHz) is open, and sporadic E propagation on 29MHz and 50MHz. Then don't forget the HF side of it that goes in the meter bands. 160M for MW, 60M for 5MHz, 40M for 7MHz, 20M for around 14MHz, etc. Even an FM DX to seleby ThaDood - General radio discussion
From what I see on the tropo maps at this could be an interesting week for DX VHF / UHF. FM and TV DX'ers should like that.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Just going through the memory CH's and bitching about just how band the propagation is spectrum-wide today. I have several of the old 49MHz cordless phone and Baby Monitor FREQ's in memory CH's and heard music on what is now the new CH2 = 49.850MHz NBFM, (CH1 being 49.870MHz today.) Heard modern country tunage then hip-hop, then what sounded like someone skipping through a track selection on an Mby ThaDood - Other logs
Anyone wanna' do a liner for an AM / FM college station near Erie, PA? If I do one, I'm adding in the AM FREQ. Heck, the most they can do is not add it.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
I'd seen that there was activity on the 2M and 432MHz reflectors, but I didn't hear anything, or get a hint of Tropo by me. If you really want some good VHF propagational beacons, check all the weather radio FREQ's and hear where they ID from with a scanner radio. About every 3 to 6min they ID their stations. I use to do that with TV stations, when they were analog.by ThaDood - Other logs
Sure would help the AM band if manufacturers didn't make such P.O.S. receivers. I think we can make better receivers than we can buy. Anymore it seems that having a tuner in a stereo is just an after thought today. As far as programing goes, I'd love to see an LPAM license open up, other than the TIS stations on currently. Also would love to see Part #15 rules relaxed. Instead of 100mW carrier poby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Well, here's one for ya'll. Ever since JG Tiger had seen an FCC DF van, (with a Columbus, OH office label on it.), only a 1/2 mile from my house 3 weeks ago, the usually very chatty local CB CH12 has been absolutely silent. So has any base station traffic on the 40 channels for that matter, just passing through truckers have been heard. So, now I'm wondering, did someone around here get nailed byby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Anyone ever heard a 1KHz test tone on the SW bands? Guess I just did. In between t-storms, got word about Aussi's on 10M. Didn't hear crap, so did various band scans. At 02:40UTC I scanned the 13M band to find that dead, except for 21.695MHz AM with a 1KHz continuous tone. Certainly stuck out easy enough. Caught 1st with A-99 CB ANT, signal rapid faded +/-and S unit, averaged an S3. Went to HORZby ThaDood - Other logs
WOW!!! Guess he has been busy. He was on 10M? 29.130MHz is still that HAM band. I'm surprised that he doesn't use the 11M INT BC band. Plenty of room up there. Surprised that he doesn't use like 1710KHz. Man, this dude certainly has time on his hands. Thanks for the list!by ThaDood - Other logs
On what would technically be 1Hz above the 15M HAM band was a male ANN talking about, "Warnings of idol worship. Stick with Yahweh. Demonic symbols in US flag and US currency. Warned of satanic bible plants and pushed the New Jerusalem bible." Signal peaked to S3, Audio was a bit over driven and raspy. I happened to find this while checking out HAM contestants from the Oregon 7th Area Qby ThaDood - Other logs
Captain Morgan Shortwave, 6925MHz AM, 02:40UTC - 03:00UTC. A medley of various short clips of classic rock tunes, Hendrix, Bob Segar, Billy Joel, Rolling Stones, David Bowie, etc. (Had to bow out at 03:00UTC.) Getting them at SW WV peaking at an S5, but with deep fades. I hear him read e-reports from MI at S+10/9 and CA at S9. Using an A-99 CB antenna at this FREQ.by ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
Very, very, weak copy of a male announcer at 520KHz AM. Any peamp just brings in more noise. If anyone has good ears there, what do you here? I suspect that it's a TIS station.by ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
Can hear R. Borderhunter in SW West Virginia using an A-99 CB antenna. No "S" units and much fading, but it's there. Will see if that improves. Tha Doodby ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
Just for the hell of it, I was check out how bad night time propagation was on my old FREQ 600KHz, and went a bit beyond that. Found something really weird on 570KHz AM, 9PM EST my time. A station with one hell of an audio hum, but could hear within it a time tone like WWV's and mono toned Spanish announcement. Por desgracia, yo no hablo español. So damned if I no what was being announced. Unforby ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
