A large part of the problem is that they now use those dinky little antennas - which are OK for FM but don't work worth a crap for AM reception! And when coupled with an EV (which generates a LOT of hash) under the hood, most of what you get is noise.

Besides, who, other than right-wing morons, listens to AM radio anymore? Only us hobbyists!
