Well Hinterbart, I will let others comment on your questions. I ran an LPFM in the late 80s when it wasn't as technically easy to do. All I will say is that if you'd like to get the attention of the local FM stations (who will consider you as poaching their listeners even if you can count them on the fingers of one hand), who will then report you to the Feds, then by all means fire up a transmby ff - The Workshop
Ahhhh you have much to learn Grasshopper. On shortwave, frequency and time of day / year is MUCH more important than power. That said, most home builders are happy with the 10-20 watt CARRIER power level, although a lot of good transmissions have been made with much less. A few places where you can start your building quest: for the beginner: the next step: That should keep you busyby ff - The Workshop
Hi Index- What is your budget? Are you looking for a serious tabletop receiver, a portable, or what? As for transmitting - are you looking to build a transmitter, or buy a ready-made transceiver, or what? IMHO, you should be more concerned with reception of pirate signals at your present level of understanding. To start throwing illegal signals out into the ionosphere without fully understby ff - The Workshop
Geez Dood - I'm glad there's joy in Mudville. But it sounds to me like the second unit they shipped you was someone else's return that was then (kinda) repaired and put back on the shelf. I also thought of Chapin when I first saw it Lee. "I am the morning Dee Jay, at W-O-L-D-dee-dee-dee..." Rusty and crusty back atcha!by ff - General radio discussion
Back in the late 80s when I was young-er and stupid-er I pirated locally on the FM band. I learned that it's the fast track to getting the FCC's attention. If any of the old pirate chasers on this board have ever wondered why Radio Garbanzo vanished for several years during the early 90s - that's why. Too much of the wrong kind of attention necessitated "cooling it" for an extended tby ff - General radio discussion
I think Lee's scenario is quite likely, eventually. At one time, buggy whip manufacturing was a good business to be in, too. Creative destruction - paradigm shift - things change. The really odd thing to me is how long this change is taking. I would guess that Government and its associated inertia is what actually is holding back this change. Were radio privatized, terrestrial radio would prby ff - General radio discussion
Unfortunately duty called here so I missed everything after approx 1830. I agree with you about the later times, John. WAZU had its best 22M Euro reports from about 2000-2300 or so, with only about 125 watts PEP. Any idea about what kind of power Spaceshuttle is using?by ff - Free Radio Logs

Howdy PJ! As Boomer says - welcome! I certainly agree with you about no WREC in the HOF. Radio Free East Coast should be there - not only for your shows - but because you certainly did more relaying of other people than ANYONE! A lot of studio-only players owe you for enabling them to even be called radio pirates. How many years was WREC at the top of Andy Yoder's activity list? Severaby ff - General radio discussion

"alcohol, antennas, guns, and smoke - sometimes in interesting combinations..." That was kind of my manifesto for 30 years or so Boomer. It always gave me a chuckle whenever Ragnar posted. Ragnar! You've castrated that beautiful tagline of yours! I'm on the same sad course Brudder.
