Spectacular tropo conditions on US east coast - 3 years ago

For two days now, a spectacular tropospheric ducting event's been happening on the northeastern US coast. I noticed this yesterday morning on FM, as very uncommon FMs from Philadelphia, New Jersey, Maryland's eastern shore, Charlottesville, Richmond, and Hampton Roads were all coming in. At around 10am a Cape Cod FM came in for 30 minutes. Today (Wednesday September 9) the event is continuing.

Got them here playing Free Bird, Into “have you ever seen the rain” cut harshly into SSTV at 2311. Good signal. Apparently the SSTV is another station, back into the same song in progress when the SSTV was over, how rude!

FM 87.75 in Washington DC is operating as the commercial "La nueva" music station. Because of their signal, I often think that they are running much more power than they're authorized as an LPTV.

Robot reading off coordinates and wind measurements, later mentioning the National Hurricane Center with tropical weather outlook for the north Atlantic. The noise levels have been very high on 4 MHz this season so far, maybe ops will start using it again after the summer. A few are going up above WBCQ 5130 these days. Will music only ops ever ID? Will crappy sounding low bandwidth slopbucket broadcasters ever upgrade to AM? Don't they realize how awful music usually sounds in USB? I would love to hear some pirates use the regular shortwa
