The station has announced that at 11pm today they will be off air to work on the station transmitter. They do not know when they will finish the work but hopefully it will take most of the night. That should allow DXers a nice amount of time to see what they can hear. KKOB Albuquerque, New Mexico 50K at night is one possibility.by RF-1170 - Broadcast announcements
Now is the time to look for DX on the 1560 freq if WFME was a problem for DXing in the past. I'm hearing two stations on 1560 now, 5:13 PM, but both are mostly unintelligible. When one of the signals finally got stronger I heard a "Today's Country, 102.9, WKIK" ID. Signal is decent but fades out quite a bit a times. CBS has been off air since at least 11:30pm. Haven't found any new stations for the log yet but hope to hear something before CBS returns to the air.by RF-1170 - Medium Wave Logs
Wasn't listening earlier in the evening so if they announced transmitter maintenance I missed it. As of 1:40am they are off air. Haven't found anything of interest on 870 and 890, just the normal cast of expected characters. 880 audio went off air ~2 min's after 1am but the carrier lasted for a long while then disappeared, then came back, repeat... Same for 660 but early on the carrier was gone. Only heard the usual suspects, 670 WSCR and 650 WSM. Canadian French speaking stations next to 880 but nothing stood out. Didn't even hear WWL or WLS. Problem was the constant dead air carrier. Ditto WFAN 660. Took 880 about 25 min's to finally lose the Xmitter (on-off signal) then I noticed 660 also off air. 660 signal came back on for a few sec's ~1:40AM. Read that they share the same antenna. It was around 2 months back(?) that 880 was also off the air for a while over night.by RF-1170 - Medium Wave Logs

On the way back home this evening I tuned into 107.9 to see if I could still get the 16 watt signal of WOLD probably 15 miles away. Good signal earlier in the afternoon but at 8pm it was overpowered by "WEBE 108" out of Westport, Connecticut with 50,000 watts. Once home I only used the whip on the portable to easily hear WEBE (WOLD was the stronger signal now). Decided to switch to Tby RF-1170 - Other logs
Decided to scan the FM band last week (rarely listen to it except for NPR stations) and found a new station on air, WOLD 107.9 (LPFM), Woodbridge, NJ using 16 watts. They've been there since December 2014. (There is also a WOLD FM in Virginia with 440 Watts) At noon time they have "The Doo Wop Diner", great program if you like the 50's & 60's music and they even let listeners proby RF-1170 - General radio discussion

I see you mentioned the AKG K240 and I wonder how you view it (subjective, I know) for radio DX use? Voice versus music. I rarely listen to music anymore but have found that selecting the right headphone for the music you are listening to is the key, no one set of cans does it all. I like my ancient Sony MDR-A22's for almost everything but know it's time to upgrade, perhaps buy 2, 3, 4, 5 oby RF-1170 - Free Radio Logs
Just got home and at 2:01pm WFME is back on air. The pwr numbers I have for WKIK are 1,000 daytime, 250 Critical Hours. Seems some/many AM stations play by their own rules. Any expert out there that can explain what rules the station must (or can) follow? Last three weeks have been good for finding a whole lot of 1K stations in CT and NJ during the day. Was driving home ~7:30pm and since the selection on the FM band was not worth listening to and I was in a rural area I switched to AM. Clear signals across the band, some distant sounding signals. Been sitting on 1070/1080 for weeks but it was congested so I punched in 1560 and heard Country music? The song ended and they ID'd as WKIK 102.9 Country. You might wanna start with a larger table! ;) That makes sense if we use simple Algebra to find the surface area needed, LxW=A. So if the loop antenna, as we turn it a full 360 degrees, occupies a 2'x2' space we would say the only area needed is 4 sq ft. But we need to factor in a variable, the other "stuff" one also needs to place on that surface. Albert Einstein, who was an aviby RF-1170 - The Workshop
After yrs of only occasional DXing, I've been quite busy this winter with the hobby but need to take it to another level. The difficulty of separating some of the signals on the same frequency is much greater than 30 yrs ago, too many stations now. All I'm using is my radio's ferrite bar and an S-A-T, no ant input jack. The MA (Portuguese) station should ID as WMVX in English 4 min's after the hour. Music selection sounds quite good to my ears. Old notes from a couple of decades ago showed CKLM using 50K on 1570 but I just looked that up online and it's probably CJLV out of Laval, Quebec. It is the replacement for CKLM with 10K watts. Haven't tried for a station ID yet but will now actively listen for the ID.by RF-1170 - Medium Wave Logs
French speakers 2nite on 1570 so it must be CKLM. 50K pwr but directional antenna pattern at night. Also WMVX from Beverly, MA 30K/.085 This one seems to filter in all the time at night, caught it about 1/2 hr ago, now CKLM rides over it. CKLM should be the biggest noise maker here. Also Bernard Meltzer and Gene Burns. WOR was a class act station in its day. Compared to today's talk show hosts Gene Burns actually had a working brain in his head. WOR 710 is IBOC digital and the only NY station that has way too much signal in my backyard, WFAN 660 is a close 2nd with signal strength. Other NY stations can be nulled out, to a point. I usually find the best DX is when the skies are clear but tonight it was snow turning to rain and DX conditions seemed decent at my locale in NJ. Still picking up WMVX 1570 pretty good and has been the last few nights, very little splatter from WFME 1560. WQEW's music was on the loud side while WFME is quite subdued, less splatter.
