I had one of those way back when (also had a '803 later). In a quiet location and with a decent wire antenna, it was quite a good portable radio. I remember hearing HCJB on 26020 with the Sony - they came in like a local on just the whip antenna! As I recall the most major flaw was front-end sensitivity to static. Kinda wish I still had it...by jtart - The Workshop
A large part of the problem is that they now use those dinky little antennas - which are OK for FM but don't work worth a crap for AM reception! And when coupled with an EV (which generates a LOT of hash) under the hood, most of what you get is noise. Besides, who, other than right-wing morons, listens to AM radio anymore? Only us hobbyists!by jtart - General radio discussion
Good signal into WNY with some nice music. No ID heard yet. Another, weaker, signal on 6951U at the same time.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Good signal with mellow, spacey (ambient?) music, roughly S5 to S6 into WNY. No ID heard yet. Apparently Zeeky!by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Pretty weak here (compared to other signals, that is). Seemed like blues and instrumentals. No ID heard yet. Parody of Ghost Riders In The Sky @2339Z.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
DJ Dick Weed with music he found online. Peaking about S5 into WNY.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Rock and pop music with a good signal into WNY - S5 to S8 on peaks. ID about 2255, another 0002Z.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Came up out of the jumble with "Somewhere My Love", peaking well over Cuba for a few minutes. Since they don't ID, we'll call it Tentative. Now an instrumental version of "Born Free" with lotsa trumpets.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Very good signal - and fidelity - with pop and rock. 0008 into Don't Stand So Close To Me. Haven't heard any announcements or IDs yet. Better signal than RFW on 6950!by jtart - Free Radio Logs
DJ Dick Weed with a good signal into WNY. Good music as usual!by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Good strong USB sig, peaking well over S9. Kudos to DJ Dickweed for finding and playing some new and different music! On after WBPR went off. I may have detected yet another signal around 6942U during that time but could barely pull a bit of audio out.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Nice clear AM signal into WNY as well to 0000*.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
You and me both! They were a good source for odd and unusual parts at reasonable prices. First Hosfelt, then MCM, now this. Seems to be a trend...by jtart - General radio discussion
Good signal into WNY with a program of Bob Marley. Here's a guy with no mic-fright!by jtart - Free Radio Logs
the Yeah Man with some very nice jazz. Clear but not very strong (about S3) into WNY, Thanks for the music! Obviously I meant 5/01. They went off about 0130.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Decent signal into WNY S7 on peaks. Rush just after 0100Z Good to hear 'em, again. M ancr at :08.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Had them here last evening from about 0100Z with a good but fadey signal. Pop music with gaps between tunes with no IDs, ads, or PSAs. Signal peaked at S9 but dropped to near zero at times.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
If I'm not mistaken, someone else actually suggested KY. And FYI, WELM sounds more like Top 40 Oldies than classic rock.by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Checked just now (0500 EDT) and have nuttin' to show for it... I'll check a bit later for WELM. Your closest is probably KY gotta get a skywire back up!!!by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Easily the most remembered QSL in the Free Radio scene!by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Just in case anyone cares, station WOEN - 1360, Olean, NY, apparently lost their 1kW day xmtr and was off the air from at least Thursday, March 17th, until yesterday (March 30th) when I noticed them on with their 30 watt nite xmtr. Still "The GOAT" with their FM translator on 96.3 and WQRS - 98.3, Salamanca. I can barely hear 1360 in Belfast - 30 miles away!by jtart - General radio discussion
Appeared to be soft instrumental music. Never heard an ID...by jtart - Free Radio Logs
'twas Mix Radio International. In here with a killer 20db over S9 signal and only occasional IDs.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Orchestral sounding music (maybe move themes). Clear ID at 0059 and again at 0104 UTC followed by hard rock vocal. "I Am Ironman" @ :11. Not a great signal, but improving. And considering my lack of a decent antenna, they are kickin' butt! Good to hear them again! A quick update: Enough snow melted for me to check on the WOG the other day. The above log was made using a whoppingby jtart - Medium Wave Logs
All times EST This mornings Vietnamese station turns out to be KGOW in Texas - which I missed five years ago. New here. First to surface through the noise this afternoon (with some help from the DSP) was conservative talk (Fox) WFSP, including Sean Hannity, and that was *before* 1400! Sometime later there were traces of Real Country, WKIK, but they were never dominant. ToH ID at 1700 froby jtart - Medium Wave Logs
First thing heard was WSBV, with religious programming. After a while WKIK took over with "Real Country". Then a surprise: WGLB from Wisconsin for a new station! Are they 2500 watts by day now? A nice clear ID at 1847ET. Since then it's been one religion station after another, and shock - no sign of WKDO for a change! I suspect the current (2043ET) dominant stn is WWYC but I haby jtart - Medium Wave Logs
There's a reason you haven't heard them lately: The AM Station lookup site says KKAA is off air and *deleted*! Their antenna patterns didn't favor the East in any way. I think I verified them from California though...by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Back in February of 2015, when WQEW was changing over to WFME and the frequency was clear for ten days, I heard a bunch of stations and a few IDs that I still haven't figured out. Maybe someone here can help? Feb 23, 1800EST: News and weather report and the Plains Radio Network. Searched for the PRN name and found nothing. Feb 25, 1730EST: News and weather, then at 1735 resumed the Jby jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Other huxters (albeit non ETWN) are Baltimore, MD, and Grand Island, NE.by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
You can add WSBV to that list; current sked is *6:45 to 6:15* - and there are more huxsters on the freq, including WCNW and WGLB (almost in your backyard!). I heard something ethnic this morning, possibly Chinese or Vietnamese but definitely oriental. So far the dominant stations here are WSBV while they're on, and WWYC fighting with WKDO early evening. At 1847 EST I had a *clear* ID froby jtart - Medium Wave Logs
