There's no "pattern" as such; the noise is there 24/7 or whenever I check. And the Town guys have mobile radios in all their vehicles, not HTs. Also, I haven't noticed any solar installations nearby; there is a mammoth solar farm that they're just getting online up in Houghton, but that's 8 miles away. I did notice that the noise was NOT audible on 11735 yesterday; I've only heard itby jtart - General radio discussion
Tried turning off the UPS; noise still there, so it's definitely NOT the UPS.by jtart - General radio discussion
I don't think it's a UPS. I've had an APC Back-UPS sitting right near the radio desk for several years and it's never given me any noise at all. Switching to the other antenna input doesn't get the noise, so I doubt it's my UPS. I'm leaning toward a plasma TV - seems they put out noise about every 40 kHz or so, so it could fit. But my nearest neighbor should be farther away than one of those wby jtart - General radio discussion
I'm hearing what sounds like an unstable local oscillator drifting around the 43m band. In sideband it's like a warbly carrier, and it slowly drifts up the band and then back down. It occurs about every 43 kHz; e.g.: This morning it was on 6905, 6948, and 6991 kHz. I don't believe it's anything inside my home, and the neighboring homes are a substantial distance away (like, not right next dby jtart - General radio discussion
Got home, turned on the radio, and the first thing I heard was, "Call the FCC"! I'm not going to do that. Fearless Fred said at 2301 and into Deep Purple. S9 but quite a bit of pestadores QRM. Love it! FRN.net promo at 2307 UTC. Signal dips to about an S5 but still peaks at S9. And I still think "Manure Renewer" is about the funniest thing I've ever heard! Off 2350 -by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Not to flog a dead horse, but just today I received my DECEMBER issue of CQ Magazine! As usual, all the interesting articles are in the electronic "Plus" edition. However, the big news was the Sweepstakes - which was in early January! I read somewhere that they are combining January and February issues. I also read that maybe they're discontinuing the print magazine altogether and goby jtart - General radio discussion
How does this guy get away with it when YHWH gets the "knock"? This one is on 24/7; YHWH was on randomly. Ya just gotta wonder...by jtart - Free Radio Logs
GNK - 13563 weak but steady 1400Z. Best in USB mode. MTI - 13558 in and out with extremely slow CW 1415Z. Best in LSB mode. Anyone know where this one is located? Never mind. LWCA lists MTI in Stone Mountain, GA! Not bad for 4 mW. There's some sort of carrier (or CODAR) that zeros on 13560 and effectively blocks that frequency. Sorry, Dude... :(by jtart - Other logs
No wonder they're broad as a barn door now! Good fidelity for sure...by jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
I see Timtron repaired the lousy audio so it was great! I especially loved "manure renewer" and "partial birth abortion". And, as usual, Fearless found some old(er) music that I didn't know (how does he do that? I'm older than dirt!). Kudos to FF - and buy more time!by jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
Nuttin' on either frequency. And with 500kW you'd think they'd be audible!! Primetimeshortwave still shows them on 15540. Hmmm...by jtart - General radio discussion
They're still listed as being on 15540 from 1800 to 2100 UTC, but I haven't heard 'em in months now. Anyone know anything? Oman is still audible on 15140 early afternoon here, so it's not propagation...by jtart - General radio discussion
AWR Madagasgar in Arabic to the Middle East. Xmtr on at 1858, s/on anmt in EE at 1900, then into AA. S3 to S7 at start but improved to S5 to S9 about 1920 UTC. Many mentions of <www.awr.org> and one of <arabic@awr.org>. No s/off amnt.by jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
Nothing here at 1724. Musta been a very brief test... BTW, has anyone else noticed how bad 5110 sounds these evenings? I can't put my finger on what the problem might be, but the audio is painful and at times it seems that the xmtr itself is unstable.by jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
Just received another 10th Anniversary eQSL from Channel Z for test xmsn on 11428 kHz from Jan 11th, so again in one week. Thanks, CZ!by jtart - QSLs
Noticed a very weak signal and managed to decode "GNK" repeating about ten times per minute. No QRM or QRN and only slight QSB. According to his website, this runs 4 milliwatts into an attic antenna from near downtown Madison, WI, (!!) so well worth the try.by jtart - Other logs
BTW: The cover shown on Amazon is NOT the cover I remember from my time at KHSU in the early 80s! Must be a re-issue..?by jtart - The Swap Shop
Gee... I was looking for that turntable..! There was a time I had a record collection similar to that, but that was many years and a few moves ago.by jtart - The Swap Shop
I've never been on "the cutting edge" at any point in my life. I let the early adopters pay to get the bugs out... ;) No turntable because I have no vinyl to play. And, frankly, I have limited space; can't justify taking space for something that I would almost never use. I still don't have Blue-Ray, wifi, or even high speed broadband and my computer is a P4 running XP Pro. I dby jtart - The Swap Shop
If you're into QRP pirate radio, you might want to take a look at <www.stationqrp.com>. He's put up his 8-watt xmtr schematic in case you'd like to build one yourself. Disclaimer: I have no connection to the site.by jtart - General radio discussion
If it's the original vinyl, I can't use it, and that's all I saw onAmazon. That's why I asked for a cassette or CD-R of the album. I don't have a turntable any more; haven't had one for probably 20 years...by jtart - The Swap Shop
I'm looking for a clean copy of a comedy LP that was released in 1979 - "Somewhere Over The Radio by Stevens and Grdnic. If you have it or have access to it and could put it on a cassette or a CD-R, please comtact me. I'd really appreciate it, and I'd be happy to pay a reasonable price for your time and effort. jtaby jtart - The Swap Shop
Tuned in to find Alice Cooper's "Elected" which was followed by a voice anmt saying "special test xmsn" and giving the gmail addy. More hard rock followed. S4 to S6 into WNY with virtually no noise and only some fading.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
I make the frequency to be 11429 kHz, but hearing "C Z" repeated in CW weakly but clear. Playing with the beacons again, hey CZ? ;)by jtart - Free Radio Logs
In English until 2200 UTC, but serious ACI from CBC1 on 6160. Heard clear ID at 2100 and news in EE.by jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
English until 1830, then Hausa until 1930*. Signal nowhere near as good as yesterday, but readable. This is from the Sudan. Also heard them yesterday on 7200 kHz from 1930 UTC.by jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
Started at t-in with a great signal into WNY, peaking S8 to S9! Now they've faded down to normal levels. Usual trance mx and one clear ID before fading.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Nothing here in WNY. However, there is a report on another site mentioning 6238 AM with a very weak signal. I'm listening there and, again, nothing. It's also a possibility that they're having xmtr trouble; seems to happen a lot with them.by jtart - General radio discussion
You may already have read this elsewhere, but Radio Cochiguaz is planning a broadcast around 6300 kHz at 9 p.m. ET tonight (0200 tomorrow UTC). Their maildrop, at least, is in Chile. If the propagation gods are favorable, you have the chance to add a new "pirate" country to your logs!by jtart - General radio discussion
In and out of the noise floor in WNY with techno/house mx, audio clips, and semi-frequent IDs. A few peaks at S8 but mostly S3 to S4. Another ID at 0134Z.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
