Tis that time of year!!! And, from WV, a couple of WV ops have already worked Europeans and JA's, (Japan.), on 6M. NICE!!! Now if we can just get the pesky T-storms out of the way for that time. BTW, ARRL Field Day, just a couple of weeks from that.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
I don't know if this has been kicked around, but supposedly the Talking House transmitter's ATU, (Antenna Tuning Unit.), is an upgrade from the 2009 version that I have. And, I've had that one rockin' since Thanksgiving 2010. Question is, did they deal with that phantom phasing, that can be heard when putting a receiver in SSB mode? Hmmmm???by ThaDood - The Workshop
Hey Bram!!!! Ever check that FREQ out? Huh... At least, somebody is still doing Medium Wave this time of year.by ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
I do on occasion check this page out, since supposedly our tax $$$$$'s are paying for these, but scroll down and check out how many outages there are as of late, (5/28/2022). Weird...by ThaDood - General radio discussion
A friend is looking at starting AM Carrier-Current Broadcasting for himself. Problem is, the AM transmitters are not too hard to find, but finding Carrier-Current Couplers is getting to be more of a challenge, since when Radio Systems and LPB, Inc., couplers come up for sale on ebay, they go immediately. So, someone wants them. However, I found this on Digi-Key's site. Has anyone ever trieby ThaDood - The Workshop
Huh... The last time that I'd hear about shortwave news on mainstream TV media news would be when a president would do his weekly radio address on VOA. So, this is rare to see.by ThaDood - General radio discussion

With this earliest East Heat Wave, (Since May 1981, if my memory can recall.), besides T-storms ripping up the HF bands, Tropo Enhancement could be possible for DX VHF / UHF. So, late night, or early morning, scan TV channels, the FM broadcast band, the 162MHz weather FREQ's, and the Amateur Bands, for that propagation.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
To my surprise, the signal was not strong at all in WV, but did manage to hear the WBOB ID with the message, "Conducting equipment tests!, while on a late drive home from work at 04:13UTC, but QRM took over afterwards.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Just got SWL'ing news about this: Having a Carrier-Current station on 610AM, I'm not likely to hear this, except on the road. Should be a clearer FREQ than 1100AM was.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
NICE!!! Heard the test on the drive home from work, then recorded the last 49min, and uploaded to archive.org. I may add more. Enjoy!!!!!by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Ripped from SWL'ing: There ya go Bram! Catch that one!by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Well, if a station doesn't ID, there's not much that can be done about that, unless an op has slipped-out that they have done the broadcast. Word on da' street is that there's a bunch a folks that broadcast as UNID's and go on-line to various Kiwi-SDR stations to find out where they are getting out. So, a lot of these UNID's out there may just be test stations. Kind of sucks, but that appears toby ThaDood - General radio discussion
I'd still take either Drake, or the Panasonic, today.by ThaDood - The Workshop
Huh... Interesting, that a company that normally sells commercially made AM receive antennas is showing how to make one. But, that's cool...by ThaDood - The Workshop

I've experimented with IR and white light LED's. Even thought of this as a station STL. However, this is Line-Of-Sight, so snow fall, heavy rain, even birds, will block this. and All neat, and legal to do.by ThaDood - The Workshop
And, yet another SWL'ing rip: 50W!!! Damn!!! Imagine what he'd cover if he was doing this in a very rural area.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Well, sounds intriguing. I've bought books like this before, and they are a nice resource to keep around. Oh... This is another SWL'ing rip.by ThaDood - The Workshop

Another SWL'ing rip, but still neat. I've heard of this being done, but never tried it myself.by ThaDood - The Workshop
This includes, Communities that have received license waivers for increased signal and/or antenna height. So far, the only one that I hear is that NJ, Hudson Co. one on 1710kHz.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Hey... AM Stereo is still an option on some stations.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Huh... Whereas, I hacked in to the radio's internal speaker connections, and ran a flat cable, and jack, out of the back of the rig external, this dude went to the Speaker / Headphones relay. I'll bet that it looks better, than my EXT Jack MOD. Hey... If it works.by ThaDood - The Workshop
According to Bill Tilford, Ilse Of Music, he suspects the interference to WBCQ's 4790kHz could be HF CODAR. Well, if that is indeed coming from out West, then at night, when near 4.8MHz goes long, would make sense. Any comments on this? andby ThaDood - Broadcast announcements
Chris Smolinski posted this on The HFU, but it's a neat distractions from the terrible world events, even for a bit. So, a neat read.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
