Yeah... Not really radio related here, or could it be made to be? Gotta' thank Rob, W8XRW for bring this to my attention. Heś using his for Yaesu C4FM Fusion WIRES-X. However, I could see using this PC Stick as an ultimate portable PC SDR. This would easily replace the Acer Netbook, with Intel Atom, from 2009, that I use to program most of my two-way rigs. So, possibilities here could be endlesby ThaDood - The Workshop
Tis the season. Now, can we keep the T-storms away and have lots od Sporadic E? Tropo would be nice, for getting those VHF / UHF points.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
From Radio Survivor, on the remaining analog LPTV Franken-FM stuations.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Huh... Only for one day. They didn't want to operate on Happy Pappy Day? So, might be neat to find out if you can hear WV stations.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Thought that this was the weekend afterwards, since it's usually the weekend before ARRL Field Day, but not this year, apparently. Now, if we can just keep Murphy's Law outta' there. Ya know... Propagation sucks on SAT and SUN, then picks-up right after that contest. And... Looking ahead to the ARRL Field Day, with all the flooding going on in the NE, might need Field Day, not as a cby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Awh… One big miss here. Just too bad that they couldn’t extend the range of the upper VHF RX from 200MHz limit, up to 225MHz, for for all-mode 222MHz in the 1 1/4M band. Yes, you can get a transverter for that, but still, it just misses that mark. Other than that, the IC-705 is very enticing. Hmmmmm... Makes you wonder if a firmware change can open that up to 222MHz?by ThaDood - The Workshop
TIS listing??? Actually, yes!!!! You have to fart around what state you are in, besides confusion, but thar' ya is.by ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
Surprised that we are in this see-saw weather, way below normal one week, cooking the next. Well, with this next heatwave coming for most of the Eastern half of USA and Canada, some of these late nights, early mornings, could yield some nice Tropo Propagation on the VHF / UHF bands. I like to use our tax $$$$ funded propagational beacons, a.k.a. the 162MHz, 24/7, Weather Stations. I'll put a scanby ThaDood - General radio discussion
On drive to work, heard battling with that 1620 from Cuba classic Top 40 Hits, like Leo Sayer, Janis Japlin, Beattles, Hot Butter, etc. Much fade, but was dominant over Cuba most of the time. decent audio as well. Not around 06:00UTCby ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
Additional from this dude, whom called-in to Allan & Angela Weiner World-Wide, WBCQ, and passed-on this info: THANKS!!!!!!!!by ThaDood - General radio discussion
COOL!!!! Here, in North America, we have Toronto's CFRX 6070kHz AM, on-air 24/7. I do like having them on, but due to them being on that FREQ, we miss out upon hearing Channel 292. 73!!!!!by ThaDood - General radio discussion
I find it interesting that this news was not #1 headlines in various Amateur Radio news! Thus, I'm glad that WB8YST has brought the following to attention: The FCC has announced that rule changes detailed in a lengthy 2019 Report and Order governing RF exposure standards go into effect on May 3, 2021. The new rules do not change existing RF exposure (RFE) limits but do require that stations inby ThaDood - General radio discussion
A bit of a short notice of this, but...by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Hey... I'm out if styling moose, or gel, is required. I haven't tried those since the 80's.by ThaDood - The Workshop

Huh... MTC later found that, not only didn't they have anymore MFJ-209C's in-stock, but couldn't order anymore from MFJ. (Gee... Even I could have told them the later.) So, they had three MFJ-259D's in-stock, so I ordered one of them instead. That goes down even lower, but misses the 1750M Experimenter's Band, which I've done only via Carrier-Current. Still, if I want to try something on the neweby ThaDood - The Workshop
From ARRL.org, Huh... Wonder why they didn't pick the ARRL Field Day date?by ThaDood - General radio discussion
I don't have a smartphone, but I do have one of those cheap-ass Polaroid tablets that's Android driven. Hmmmmmm... Wonder if this would work with my RTL-SDR dongle?by ThaDood - The Workshop
Hmmmmmmmmmmm... Radio Jay Allen has some competition on this one. Neat read!!!!!by ThaDood - The Workshop
Huh??? I asked the following from the dudes over at The HFU and have gotten quite the response. So.... Anyone ever try this antenna analyzer to match-up Part #15 antennas and Carrier-Current Coupling? I like that the newer MFJ analyzers now measure that low. Just too bad that the original ones don't, like the MFJ-269C that I bought in 2005. I also like that the MFJ-209C does the 222MHzby ThaDood - The Workshop
Damn!!!! This looks like something that you'd might expect from Harris RF. And, of course, revisit where I've read about this,by ThaDood - The Workshop
Huh... I did the pre-order for two of these years ago, then, what the hell happened? This kind of explains it: Surprised, that they don't try crowd funding. It's worked to get products out before.by ThaDood - The Workshop
A bit late for this, but I didn't even get home until 1AM EST. Oooops. Still, interesting to read about. THANK YOU Josh for that info!!!!! WION 1430 kHz in Ionia, Michigan will be testing tonight. The purpose is to evaluate the matching of their night directional array to their transmitter. This will help ensure better bandwidth for their C-QUAM AM Stereo signal. The signal will alternateby ThaDood - General radio discussion
I heard this station booming in during my commute between job sites, jamming out 1990's modern rock. Nice audio quality as well. When I'd gotten back home and looked it up, I filled out the their on-line contact page and got this reply back: "Hey Tha Dood - thank you so much for reaching out! It's always a pleasure to hear about our AM signal reaching beyond state lines, it's awesome youby ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
Interesting, but I guess, not surprising. Hmmmmm... Hopefully, using an external antenna tuner helps this problem.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
That was a lot of fun, and some craziness. I lost a UPS Back-Up that afternoon in my studio. (Of all the times for that to happen, of course.). There were two known Part #15 AM stations that took part in this as well, linked to the wtsq.com stream. However, one interesting observation that was noticed from both the wtsq.org stream-feed and the OTA FM 88.1FM signal during the time that LP's and 45by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Nice SWLing rip of this! Hey... It's gear, right???by ThaDood - The Workshop
There are only 2 IC's in this, but I have not been able to ID them. The center 1/2" SMT square IC is what I would assume to be the CPU / DSP. The other, 24 leg SMT IC, appears to be de-MOD and audio. FREQ width on AM? It's got to be wider than 10kHz. I say that since listening to both my Part #15 AM stations, which both run 10kHz MAX audio and sound more like mono FM on a wide-band receiver,by ThaDood - The Workshop
