Just got an email from one of the CountyComm folks and the SSB version of this awesome little radio should be available within the next month. Said he had just run it through its routines and worked as well as the previous models. He says for "under $80" the SSB version of the GP-5DSP w/SSB. Glad to see someone is finally manufacturting some excellent quality portable shortwaveby Pat Murphy - General radio discussion
I believe this was Radio Free Speech's Halloween show. Caught a slice of it at 2140 - 2145. Its a very fast paced show with lots of clips of people singing Halloween tunes and making Halloween noises. I just got my old Alpha-Delta back up to 70-feet and had this one. Been 20-years since I last heard it.by Pat Murphy - Free Radio Logs

I bought another one because they finally became available again on: www.countycomm.com I bought the original, the GP-4L 7 or 8 years ago. The GP-4L fit into the palm of your hand and had the similar specs. But this GP-5DSP is a marked improvement over the GP-4L. This is the best $44.95 you'll ever spend for a shortwave/AM/FM (stereo via headphones) radio. The website two years ago whenby Pat Murphy - General radio discussion
Well stated Boomer. Full 10-kHz audio bandwidth capability with low detector distortion is essential to AM radio survival (540-1700khz). But its going to take a lot more to fix it. You are right there aren't many Chief Engineers watching their stations, because they have to watch over a dozen or more spread out over 100's of miles. I saw the same warning. It may be the best DX you've ever heard or it could wipe out all radio/tv/cellphone/satellite communications. If you can get to a place away from the city, look for the Northern Lights (look North) as they should be firing up. If you've never seen the Northern Lights, it should be on your bucket list. Awesome! The sites I'm reading say the Solar Storm should hby Pat Murphy - General radio discussion
These "fake" cell towers aren't really "towers" at all. They are routers, set up in windows that pick up the data that your cell phone sends to real cell towers. They capture the data, reproduce it on other phones and use up your minutes or hack your account and get your SS number, credit card info, date of birth and anything else they can steal. Excellent thoughts and comments on this topic. As the commercial tv stations have gone to Digital, there should a lot of analog tv exciters and transmitters flooding the used equipment market. Might be time for a couple good Pirate TV-Stations to crop up. Now the problem of content arises. New article in Radio World documents that BMW's are leaving AM off their "electric" models, due to interference. Great read: Radio World Article on BMW's leaving AM out of Electric Cars I read somewhere that GM and Ford will leave AM out of cars starting in 2016 (I can't find the article)(will post when I do). Would hate to see AM be abandoned like Shortwave was in the 50's-90's bby Pat Murphy - General radio discussion
Wow....all great responses. One thing the FCC needs to abolish are the Daytme-only AM stations. If you can't offer a 24-hour signal to your community you don't have a chance. But the bulk of the burden (and blame) belongs at the feet of broadcasters. The bean-counter-do-it-on-the-cheap-mentality has come home to roost. AM broadcaster's have done this to themselves. And this guy built an AM transmitter that covers 160 - 10 mtrs. A Radio God! The only place I've seen coils that clean and spaced is in a brand new Nautel xmtrby Pat Murphy - General radio discussion
Ran across this on QRZ.COM. There are a couple of video's at the end that are cool but the drone fly over of his antenna farm is beyond imagination. He's in Middlesex, PA and has some land and apparently good neighbors. Antenna's from Heavenby Pat Murphy - General radio discussion
Cool map. Thanks for the site. Had never seen this before. Will spend some time listening for some VHF/UHF DX. Sure do miss analog tv though.by Pat Murphy - General radio discussion

I subscribe to Radio World. Here is the latest article on how the FCC is planning to save AM radio. Your thoughts? The Federal Communication Commission continues to review comments on the AM revitalization rulemaking proposals it made last fall. AM observers expect the commission to move forward quickly with at least some of those steps. The Media Bureau suggested six remedies to promotby Pat Murphy - General radio discussion

Got an email alerting me to time and frequency. ID'd as "This is YHWH the voice of Yahweh" (Yaaa-way) Did a sermon about the Carnal Man and warned of the coming doom. I've been following this station all over the band. 21-7-5-6 and 3mhz. Music is scary. Not sure what they're saying but its spooky. 6975AM 1205-1222UTC SIO333by Pat Murphy - Free Radio Logs
570 WSPZ (ESPN) (owned by the Washington Redskins) Washington,D.C. has an unusual number of technical glitches with their automation, especially at night. They are 5,000-watt day and 1,000-watt at night. I've heard just a loud audio hum (but no WWV) and then automation tones that don't start the next event many times. It appears that when they go from live in afternoon drive to automation at nby Pat Murphy - Medium Wave Logs
