And if you hear Family Radio at this point, it's KKAA, in Aberdeen, SD, and a good catch! At this moment, Toledo, OH, is dominant.by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Now known: Family Radio has retained the license for 1560 - and is looking for a site to diplex the signal. So this silence is another temporary situation. They have until February of 2022 to get the signal back on.by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
You're going to love that pest! For 1000 watts, they get out well.by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Heard them thru Sunday with the "going off the air" message, but gone when I checked Tuesday evening. Unfortunately, there was nothing discernible on the frequency in their place. Heard more during the ten-day switchover back in 2015...by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
They are the strongest Iowa station into WNY although they run the lowest power. I believe they are associated with Iowa State. Must have one heck of a Ground system! And they are live and local 24 hpd. <-- Errr, ummm... No, they're not. They obviously run from the computer overnight - unless there's a weather emergency or something else important, and then they're live at all hours.by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
I had a trace of 'em here about a week ago. Heard telephone "off hook" sound and a few minutes later a 1 kHz test tone in the jumble. Not bad: 800 watts, directional away from me.by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
Former WVKO, Columbus, OH. They also call themselves "Central Ohios Alternative". The way they boom into WNY I suspect they sometimes don't drop to night power. On a related topic, I'm beginning to notice more and more *music* stations coming back to AM. From Zoomer, to 101 The Met, to WRKK. It's a good change, since most talk radio is simply boring...by jtart - Medium Wave Logs
I've noticed MW a bit strange but 11m is sometimes w-i-d-e open, sometimes for hours at a time. I was listening to 38L one day and I could tell the skip went long - and then heard a station in southern UK briefly before the skip shifted again. Yesterday I heard Montana, Northern Idaho, Bakersfield (CA), and several western Canadian provinces. Also the loud Jamaicans, Dominican Republic, and Meby jtart - General radio discussion
No ID heard - nor could I understand it if there had been - but sounded Chinese. Strong signal - maybe a Cuban relay? Talk ended, then time pips (5 low, 1 high), and gone.by jtart - Shortwave Broadcast Logs
Word on another website is that Universal Radio is closing. Fred Osterman is retiring. Whatever are they going to do with all those cats?by jtart - General radio discussion
Got a reply from Jill today. Said if Icom has discontinued the cable they probably can't help me. So I'm still looking. But thanks anyway...by jtart - The Swap Shop
Just barely there in my local noise level. UnID rock music. Never heard any talking.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Tuned in to fair sig with AC/DC music and gravel voiced ancr "da Crusher". Sig took a big nose-dive at 0032 to a quite weak level, although definitely still there. Never could catch the ID.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Loud and clear into WNY with a somewhat disjointed music program; two ancrs talking over each other, music tracks truncated. Good modulation.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
I looked at their page and see a four-pin *square* connector for the IC-7000, but not the four-pin in-line Molex for the R7100. I may shoot them an email later today. Thanks!by jtart - The Swap Shop
Anyone got an Icom OPC-023C that they're not using and no longer need? This cable fits the R7100, R8500, and R9000 V/Uhf communications receivers, and Icom says they're discontinued. Please reply direct or via PM. Thanks and 73, jtaby jtart - The Swap Shop
Some ambient music audible here at 2355Z. Another site sez Radio Illuminati, but I haven't heard any anmts.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
One small additional detail that I should have mentioned: iHeart Radio is in bankruptcy proceedings. That's right, the largest station owner in the country is broke. And most likely the other big players are in a similar situation. So don't expect them to do any give aways unless the items are donated to them, things along the likes of CDs and stuff. Certainly not HD radios!by jtart - General radio discussion
"The broadcast industry" wants HD radio because iHeart (the largest broadcast chain) is a major investor in it - and I imagine all the other major players are, too. So of course they want a return on that investment. If it flops they lose big time. However, it'll be like videotapes and DVDs - you'll always have to buy the newest version to "keep up with the Jones". You thinby jtart - General radio discussion
T/in to Chicago "25 or 6 to 4" at 2020Z, then maybe Billy Joel with "She's Always An Angel To Me". Roughly S1 to S2 signal, but clear modulation. Boston "More Than A Feeling" at 2029Z, and off at end of song at 2035. No anmts heard. Maybe a test xmsn?by jtart - Free Radio Logs
OMG... Too funny! You should collect all of these and put out a book. Bet it would be a best seller!! But how do you find the time to hear all these?by jtart - Other logs
It would appear that the "instant gratification" generation has taken over Free Radio and microphones are too high tech for them. Since when is two or three tunes and some noise (SSTV) a "program"? Do they think that is worth the risk? Does *anyone* spend any time in the studio to produce something worthwhile any more? The higher frequencies are pretty dead at the moment anby jtart - General radio discussion
Known better as Peter Green, he was a founding member of Fleetwood Mac and an astounding guitar player. He played with John Mayall's Blues Breakers as a first gig, where he met Mick Fleetwood. He later experimented with LSD and had some mental problems. Peter Green died peacefully in his sleep. He was 73. If you can find a copy of the LP "The End of the Game" it's well worth a lisby jtart - General radio discussion
I think the one I had was from Lafayette. It had two tubes (a 50C5 and a 35W4) and was built on a piece of metal bent into a right angle. No case. Kinda primitive. I had about two block coverage. Dunno whatever happened to it...by jtart - The Workshop
In and out of the local noise level here in WNY. Another site reported a possible ID of WNBC. We had a line of T-storms move through during the broadcast, making reception tough. It was on for a few hours; sounded like an canned rock oldies feature.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
Good signal into WNY as well! A pleasure to hear.by jtart - Free Radio Logs
You weren't in radio after 2K because the mega-chains bought up all the stations and programmed them from a central location, which isn't anywhere near you. So you get to listen to the slop and pablum that they choose to put on the air - and hope to make money on. :( Pardon me while I puke...by jtart - General radio discussion
Dick Biondi on WKBW - 1520 (long before he was on WLS). And on WJVA - 1580 much later in his career. Joey Reynolds in previous years Arnie "Woo-Woo" Ginsberg on WMEX - 1510. Barney Pipp on KYW - 1100 (didn't listen to him much) Cousin Brucie on WABC - 770 And remember when the entire Group W chain was Top 40 rock? Then there were the WMCA (NYC) Good Guys, the WNDR (Syracuby jtart - General radio discussion
