Just when I thought that F2 was done for the night, around 03:00UTC, I was surprised to hear some weak activity on CB's 38LSB on at 01:30UTC. Not talking DX, to to each other, about 3 - 4 "S" unit. Tuned around and heard the Superbowl CH6 hopping, with several stations shouting-out from Illinois. However, it's AM CH28 that caught my interest. At first, thought that to be skip, but it waby ThaDood - Other logs
From Radio World: Well, I think that at least it's intriguing. (THANKS Boomer, for the link!)by ThaDood - The Workshop
Uh-huh... Doing it again this year. Possibly more Part 15 AM station participation, with Boomer's WAG AM690AM, and MRAM1500, . Radio Locator WTSQ-LP page is another good-one for INFO on the stream link.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
News from Boomer: "Believe it or not, the TIS on 1670 activated recently with real emergency info and not just the loop. It's up the river in Etna PA, far away, but my Kiwi can get it. First time I ever heard them with actual emergency info." Well, that's at least different.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
FWR'ed by Boomer of WAG 690AM. Gee... And I thought that my AM1620 took a hit, where the 9ft copper pipe was ripped off the mounts. BTW, that Array of 580AM WCHS over looks the cities of Dunbar, South Charleston, and Institute, WV. What's weird is that they didn't mention this on their website, but mentioned being off-air, when I tuned-in to the Cross lanes 104.5FM translator, which came back oby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Huh... They had a screening for that in semi-close-by Marshall UNI. Now, the other flick? Well, there's a li k for the book on that one. Looks like they are still trying to fund this one.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
THANK YOU Boomer for that find! Incedential, I was there, (Port Henry, NY), in 1987, but not to tune-in to this station, it was to buy a Champ T-shirt, the Lake Champlaigne sea monster. And, the station that I was listening to then was the AOR station out of Plattsburg, NY. Almost wish that I've tuned-in to that station now.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Late Friday night / Saturday morning, around 1:30AM EST, myself and a HAM friend of mine, heard mobile traffic on VHF MURS CH1, 151.820MHz FM. That, in itself is not too unusual, but these dudes were speaking Japanese. One, was using a Baofang HT, due to the recognition of its Roger-Beep. Thinking, that they were on Rt. 64, about 4 miles away is the closest point to me. I heard them on the scanneby ThaDood - Other logs
They are back, for a new podcast and INFO on two radio flicks coming out, 35,000 Watts, about college radio, and 40 Watts To Nowhere, about a pirate station. Good to know.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
I really suck in software, and always have. However, even I thought this interesting. I still remember 12" floppy disks for loading industrial CRT test machines for Toshiba in the late 1980's. I still have 5.25" floppy disks, but nothing to run those on. I do still have 3" diskettes and several DOS and WIN 3.1 softwares. How many pirate, and other station, loggings do you still hby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Since the beginning of Cycle 25's F2 Propagation, this dude has been heard on the East Coast, most days, for years doing this. (What's he using to cool his finals, and where do I get them?) He certainly doesn't cool tempers over here during the daylight hours, and even about 2 hours after sunset. That does make for an interesting Propagational Beacon, but that's an interest that wears-off withby ThaDood - Other logs
How many of us still have bins and drawers of cassettes to still go through. Ya know, there's a lot of history recorded all over on cassettes. Like, pirate radio history. Now, what's that cassette company in MO? Oh yeah, this one. Huh... No Metal Tape formulas? At least, you can still buy CrO2. And then, there's this: Seen this coming out of OUTLOOK. Actually, aren't there Open-Reelby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Buying a used Xiegu G90 SDRtransceiver, used for $369.00, from MTC Radio, was a deal that I couldn't ignor. However, with this bare-bones, 20W, SDR HF transceiver being out now for about 6 years, problems are developing with them, including the RF cut-out problem that I had. How did I fix mine? The following is a Copy & Paste e-mail that I had with Tom, WB8ICT, (Whom also has a Xiegu G90.), wby ThaDood - The Workshop
I was asking folks, a couple of years back, about the time that Jan Crystal and ICM went bye-bye, about domestic crystal companies. And, by accident I came across the preceding link. Good.by ThaDood - The Workshop
I've seen this before, and can't remember if I've posted it before. But, Boomer reminded me of it. I have a well worn Realistic #12-655 AM portable, from 1975, and it is a very fun portable.by ThaDood - The Workshop
I was wondering why my phone was pinging-away late last night. Now, I know. Never did an actual on-air QSO with him, since everytime he'd put his call out, there would be a swamp of a pile-up. Only e-mailed corresponded. He'll be missed in the Amateur Radio and music realms for sure. Even, a better write-up of him here. Huh... Says here that he passed-away on 2/28/2024.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... Ya know, after reading Radio Jay's review, it sounds like Sangean later copied Sony with their ATS-803A / Realistic DX-440, with looks, feel, and features. Well, I guess Sangean wanted to use what worked. Just my take...by ThaDood - The Workshop
HFU posted this earlier, then C2C AM. Talk about a WTF moment.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
SAT 2/3/2024: Most of the activity has been on 3885kHz AM. Thus far, done a couple of round-table contacts, until 05:00UTC, when propagation flipped the switch and dropped the 75M band. 40M has been pretty bad as well, where the Big-Guns are coming in like an S5, than the arm-chair S+20/9 and better. W1AW was on around 17:00UTC on 14.297MHz AM, and I made it back to them, there. If there is a CMby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Well, as long as it's not an emminece front. AM Stereo was a clear case where capitalism failed, and failed miseribly. Where it may have to seccede today is within Open Source, and there are Part 15'ers out there just running with C-QUAM AM Stereo. Is it perfect??? No, but for the most part that format did work, and to a degree, it still does. Today, SDR tech could be the game changer, sinceby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Uh-huh... Boomer, found this RW as well.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
EDM type mx mix. Heard mention "The Mix", but don't know if that was an ID, or part of mx feat. EDM mix with The Offspring. COMM-like audio quality, no bass. Steady S8 signal. Logged initially as UNID.by ThaDood - Free Radio Logs
RX TEXT messages with shortwave listening? Well, FM stations kind of do that with RDS. Sounds like this could be adapted to domestic Medium Wave Broadcasting as well. Yeah... Boomer came upon this for me.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Hey... When AM radio was consider, something. Boomer FWR that to me on 1320Khz in Pittsburgh, PA. A fun read & listen. In contrast, the station that was in my area, WLSV 790AM, just went from the boards, to a CBS Volumax, to STL, and on-air. And, that was it. Some muddy audio there, fo' sure. Enjoy...by ThaDood - General radio discussion
For decades, I've used cheap, trashed, second-hand, car radios / stereos, for AM and especially FM, DX'ing. Apparently, I'm not the only one doing that. Boomer and I were kicking that idea around and he found that post out there. Well, when you can get a second-hand AC Delco car stereo, for free, with great sensitivity, and especially selectivity, spec's, and be a kick-ass DX'er for using it,by ThaDood - The Workshop
THANK YOU Boomer, for FWR that to me.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Well, this looks more convenient than that godzeyes antenna that I've made. Tis the season to build and try stuff.by ThaDood - The Workshop
Last night, I blew-off C2C AM, for 75M QSO's to fall asleep to. However, when I woke-up around 7:30AM, EST, the SSB'ers were pretty much calling it quits. So, I tuned to 3885AM and caught the tail-end of what I believe was the AM Collins Net. Glad that I did, since someone made the announcement that the annual Heavy Metal AM Rally is, tonight. Cool!!!! Nice warm-up for next month's AM Rally.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Already, looking FWR to The ARRL VHF Sweepsteaks. Then, Winter Field Day, which seems to be growing. And then, the always fun AM Rally!!! This year, that could be much more fun on 20M, 17M, 12M, 15M, and especially 10M, AM. However, 6M and 2M AM can also be fun as well, albeit more local. So, if Southern thunderstorms rear their ugly, noisy, heads this AM Rally, chances are, this yearby ThaDood - General radio discussion
