Huh... Whereas, I hacked in to the radio's internal speaker connections, and ran a flat cable, and jack, out of the back of the rig external, this dude went to the Speaker / Headphones relay. I'll bet that it looks better, than my EXT Jack MOD. Hey... If it works.by ThaDood - The Workshop
According to Bill Tilford, Ilse Of Music, he suspects the interference to WBCQ's 4790kHz could be HF CODAR. Well, if that is indeed coming from out West, then at night, when near 4.8MHz goes long, would make sense. Any comments on this? andby ThaDood - Broadcast announcements
Chris Smolinski posted this on The HFU, but it's a neat distractions from the terrible world events, even for a bit. So, a neat read.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Correspondence with Amateur Radio Newline's, Caryn, K2GUT, will top-feature Ukraine radio topics, and Amateur Radio related for sure. This might even include WRMI's news,by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Crap... Didn't hear it on-air this time via job site commute this time. Hmmmmmmmmm... Is somebody reading this that this subject pertains too? I wonder...by ThaDood - FM Logs
And, one more time! 4790kHz AM, Saturday night, Feb. 19th, 10:00PM, or Sunday 03:00UTC. Same show, The Underground Jam. At that time, the West Coast USA, Mexico, and Canada, should be had, and possibly South America and Western Europe. Eh... Where the band Master is from in Moscow, that will be about dawn, so it may go that far. I suspect that at that time, 10PM EST, 4790kHz might skip over Westby ThaDood - Broadcast announcements
SWL'ing rip: This would suck! One of the best sounding music SW stations out there.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
2/10/2022, 9:20PM EST, commuting from one job location to another and put the truck stereo on 87.9FM for possible pirates and Part #15'ers on satellite radio. Exiting from an industrial park, I was hearing co-channel bleed-over. It wasn't 88.1FM, but 87.7FM, to my surprise! (Possible Franken-FM on TV audio CH6, 87.750MHz? There were clues to tell me. Audio wasn't loud, but maybe 1/2-level of commby ThaDood - FM Logs
Did it. Bought time on the new FREQ 4790kHz, Saturday, February 12th, 9PM EST, or 02:00UTC. (Not Bro Staire.) Also, bought an hour for the following weekend of 2/19-20/2022, but that time has yet to be sched and TBA.by ThaDood - Broadcast announcements
With the buzz of the truckers rallying up in Ottawa, there's now a buzz in the USA of such a rally in February 2022, somewhere. So, it might be interesting to scan the 40 channels for truckers talking about this, around CH19 and +/- a few channels from there. And, if there is such a rally(s), then CB scanning would be essential.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
This is always a fun one. ARRL doesn't seem to mention this, yet, for this year. Question is, will this week's CME squash propagation from 40M, on up. Tech Class can still get-in on this with 6M 50.40MHz AM. I use to do +40 miles on 20W with a Kenwood TS-60S with a 6M Halo. 2M AM can be had, albeit no one seems to have a good AM spot for there, but more locally 'try & see', like 144.300MHby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Only had a little over an hour last night to work this year's Winter Field Day. 160M was no phone but all CW contestants crammed-in below 1880kHz. Most activity was the upper 75M band. Apparently, I had to be corrected on my designator, not 1E, but 1H, for single op at home operations. I used only 20W, but apparently WV section was popular, since ops were commenting that they just were not hearinby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Huh... Heard our local LPFM WSTQ-LP 88.1FM, , replay the Radio Survivor podcast with that interview from that dude from . So, that is a good show to get Part #15 info from, and to even air on your Part #15 stations. Download from here,by ThaDood - General radio discussion
THANKS Cosmik!!!! That explains things quite well. on 3265kHz, and understandable. UPDATE from SWL'ing 2/3/2022:by ThaDood - Broadcast announcements
Cool!!!! I'm buying a couple hours on this myself. What I find a little strange is the push for this new FREQ, when they still have 3265kHz down. Eh... Whatever... Should have very similar propagation characteristics as WWV's 5MHz, and the 5-Channel 60M Amateur Radio Band, nice regional daytime coverage, and Coast to Coast coverage at night. Hey, I welcome that.by ThaDood - Broadcast announcements
Yeah... At the time of this writing, there a North American Sprint going on, (1/22-23/2022), but I heard several 75M SSB'ers sating that they were gearing up for this year's Winter Field Day. Well, good! Any station that they contact, via non-repeater mode, is a point to them. Oh yeah... The AM Rally the weekend after that.by ThaDood - General radio discussion
In battling with 1710kHz TIS, Hudson Co. (The Pest), was audio of Tucker Carlson talking about the Ukraine / Russian debacle. Was only in there for a couple of quick fades. UNID. It was certainly different.by ThaDood - Medium Wave Logs
Reaching single digits Saturday morning 1/22/2022, this might be a neat time to check-out lower FREQ signal enhancements. And, not just the lower FREQ's, but possible Tropo from VHF / UHF stations, especially if you are up by the Great Lakes. And, if you have a Part #15 AM station, see how much further that's going to reach. If we're going to get stuck with being frigid, might as well have some fby ThaDood - General radio discussion
Boomer FWR this to me. Huh... Most folks doing a station either do it from the den, basement, attic, garage, or even a bedroom closet. This dude set-up in his living room. Eh... Why not???by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Listening to the 40M AM'ers on 7290kHz, I heard one station talk about the Xiegu G90, where he commented on that for AM Mode, it was the best low powered, near QRP, rig out there to sound nice on AM that he's stumbled on. Now, I have listened to mine on another rig, in headphones, and for what I have, the 'sweet-spot' settings there seem to be to set te MIC Gain on "5", (From the scaleby ThaDood - The Workshop
Glad to hear 11M and 10M jamming last night, when I got back home from work. Heard MN and WI, but worked three friends in the same town in MO, doing a round table, just after 04:30UTC on call FREQ 28.400USB. Then, seen a nice spike of a signal on 28.405USB, with a Texas station working Philadelphia, PA. When the Texas station later called CQ, I jumped-in with just 20W and worked him to 06:00UTC,by ThaDood - Other logs
Sporadic E rarely rocks for this, but some Tropo by coastal areas and the lack of foliage absorption usually makes this contest decent for 222MHz and 432MHz. Now... When's that AM Heavy Metal Rally?by ThaDood - General radio discussion

Huh... Still learning the Xiegu G90, but looks like Xiegu has found their niche market, which seems more than a niche.by ThaDood - The Workshop
Since the weather really sucks, now, this might be a good time to check out the uploaded VID's on the WBCQ Archive site and watch, or even download, the VID's of Radio New York International. The RNI one is 1.2GB in .MOV format, but seems to play OK on what I have. So, enjoy!!!!!by ThaDood - General radio discussion
Not having an EXT Speaker Jack option really bugs me about this rig, so I did one. Using leftover ribbon cable, I used 3 strands to work that through the top side of the back ACC Port and tapped from the INT Speaker that way and ran the EXT OPEN / CLOSED circuit 1/8" connector. Works pretty well. There's only a 1/2W of audio, but it's enough to drive EXT speakers for better audio, than the 1by ThaDood - The Workshop

So, with warmer weather, and being the Christmas / NYD Week, I'm hearing daily activity from neighborhood kids on what must be new Bubble-Pack GMRS / FRS radios. I keep an older Midland Bubble-Pack HT on constant scan, on a 6VDC power supply, and did it originally to hear hunters and get heads-up on local road construction around here, since they use these radios as well, instead of commercial VHby ThaDood - General radio discussion
