For years, I've been grabbing the Archived shows from WBCQ 'The Planet' for re-broadcasts on Part 15 stations. For a while Allan & Angela Weiner World-Wide were not being updated to the Archive site, but are now. That, and other shows, like Radio Timtron World-Wide, Lumpy Gravy Show, and many other, are a great FREE programming resources for Part 15 ops. Mystery WQMS 95.7FM, 0615 UTC, bowling over local translator. - 11 days ago
I was going to fall asleep to C2C AM, on the WVTS FM translator, on 95.7FM, but it was totally bowled-over by a Classic Rock station around 1:15AM EST. YL announcer talking over the beginning of the start of some tracks, so it didn't seem that she was voice tracked, but live-on-air. I clearly hear the call WQMS, but did not get a legal ID. Passing contemplation, but with near triple digits predicted the week to the Eastern USA, just before the 4th Of July holiday weekend, could bring us some neat late night & early morning Tropo for DX'ing VHF & UHF bands. Well, I guess that CME hadn't hit here, yet, since around 9:15PM last night. What came blasting in on a Chevy Cruz stereo was this 1580kHz classic rock station playing that artist that sings, "Not A Fool To Do your Dirty Work!", followed by the long-ass Rolling Stones - You Can't Always Get What you Want, then AC/DC - Back In Black. Back to FRS / GMRS??? So, you have some of those bubble-packed GMRS / FRS HT's sitting around, with wasted battery packs, so the charger is about useless. What do ya do with them? Convert them to GMRS / FRS scanners and listen to your neighborhood, travelers, and even local GMRS repeaters. Most of these 'lil HT's run on either 4.5VDC, or 6VDC. Just take out the battery packs, toss them, and replaby ThaDood - The Workshop

Wow... For decades, ops in the North East, that didn't have General Coverage Receive in their HF rigs, were able to still tune to the CHU FREQ's, when WWV was not as obtainable. Still, when propagation sucks for WWV / WWVH, CHU still can get through on their three FREQ's. So, this will be missed. Just out of curiosity, I did a search for Unlicensed Stations on Radio Locator, and got a list. Now, what's weird is when you look at the ownership of these stations. Huh... On FREQ, AM Radio boosters are nothing new, since I've read about Part #15 stations actually doing this permissibly for years by some ops. Ernest Wilson, of Panaxis Productions, gave examples upon how that can be done. However, that FREQ better be tight, since just as much as a 1/2Hz off could actually cancel a signal instead. Being Record Store Day & Vinylthon, 4/18/2026. At least that seems decent, going over WTSQ-LP and my stations, radio-wise. However, my bro-in-law, JG Tiger, believes that today, Record Store Day, is ruined store-wise. Why??? The weekend of Saturday, April 18th, 2026, is not only Record Store Day, but a time where many stations do the event called Vinylthon, Most of these stations are LPFM'er, college stations, and other public radio stations. Well... You could do what Radio Jay Allan has done, and I have as well, it to swap the original little-ass bar antenna for a larger one. I've done that to two radios. The 1st being that Yorek YK-901 DSP $20.00 portable. With that one, I took a 3" bar antenna, from a burned-out 1960's clock radio and mounted that to a 5" EXT plastic stub, to keep the antenna away from the DSP chips. Huh... Looks neat, but is it anything like the Grace Digital wi-fi Radio that I use for that purpose? The Grace Digital has a much better D/A converter, and sounds much smoother, warmer, and way less harsh, than the D/A converters heard in smart phones and many computers. You might ask, why have a hardcore 1990's metal program be mentioned under a bit on Pirate Radio History? For about 2 years, Dale Early did the show on flame thrower, WAYJ, (Way-FM), from 1989 - 1991. A well produced 2hrs program indeed, that was fast paced, with Dale's energetic announcing.
