With the net and its vast cornucopla of sound, I don't really need to dumpster dive stations, unless it would be for old time's sake. Back then it was a necessity and a great source, my station was hungry for audio every week.
You remember, 'The Night Calls', that's great! I've always loved those loops, playing different ones from several tapes at the same time, Jamming. I made them on an open reel, recording a section of tape and cutting it out, then splicing it into a loop. I had a block of wood with an empty reel nailed on it, and put it on a chair across the room, to hold the loop of tape while it played over and over at 7.5 ips.
'The night calls' was from an ad for a concert that Cinderella was having, that was the opening voiceover, over their track Night Songs, 1986. I'm sure the ad was played for a little while and forgotten, but that little piece of it lived on, I even have it copied as a digital track.
Now we have great wave editors, but analog tape cutting still has a special sound when I hear old productions.
