I like those because they're so simple, good for experimentation, using common parts, and the signal strength would be in the milliwatts, so not much chance to jam someone's radio or shoot skip on it.

To keep the range low, just clip on a small piece of wire and lengthen it until you get the signal level you want, then it will be like test generator level.

Using the 13.56 crystal that guy has, then you'd be on the ISM band with more power allowed, so you might be able use a full dipole on the mini rig.

That has to be one of the simplest AM transmitters out there!
