(tentative) Puntland R - 13800, 05/05, 1240-1250+

Quite weak with improving signal - and nobody else scheduled. Mostly vocal music with occasional announcements by M and YL. At 1250UTC the M said in English, "You are listening to ..... Radio" and gave a phone number that I could not copy. Beginning at 1258 and continuing until at least 1340 there was an acapella M vocal - probably a call to prayer. By 1340 the signal was deteriorating badly and I gave up.

Puntland Radio is supposed to be testing on this frequency. Last I heard they were using 50 watts. Power will eventually be 20kW.

later: They were also there the next day, quite weakly, but not there the last two days. At the moment I'm away from home so can't check...

(BTW, Puntland is a break-away part of Somalia.)

America needs a sense of humor...
