I don't think we'll ever have to worry too much about driftnet capture of radio traffic - apart from anything else it produces waaaaay to much radio for a person to cope with. AM DXers have hit that problem, some people take weeks to go through everything.
I think really it all depends on the listener. Me, I like to sit in the radio room on a snowy day with a cup of tea and play radio. Some people it's more like collecting train numbers - they're more interested in completing a list of some kind and the means isn't so important. (I can imagine someone mailing his SDR off somewhere, having it run for a day by the recipient and then getting it back and going through the listening as some kind of weird DXpedition.... )
Doesn't do to be too purist, doesn't do to be more in love with the tech than the listening, either. It's a hobby dammit, Jim.
Now there's a thought - what about relays? Surely the fact that the entire show is canned makes it no different to canning at the listener end for later replay? What about a canned show sent being recanned at the other end - is that a single or a double sin? Does a canned show count? Why should it when temporary canning of a live show doesn't?
Man, this is worse than Catholic theology...
Time for a bagelburger.
