About the only plus side to this cold snap is the AM medium wave DX possibilities. And not just at night, check out the fringe range of MW stations around you in the daytime when it's very cold. Heck, I see it even with my Part #15 station AM1620. At mid-day when it's way below freezing I've heard my station up to 4 miles on a car stereo. Not bad for a massive PEP = 92mW to a 10ft antenna. It most certainly doesn't reach that far in the summer. Check out your local TIS stations and see how much stronger they are coming in. So, stay warm and AM DX!!!!
