Tis the season for more DX MW stations, and freeze your nuts off.

This Valentine's Day weekends is expected to be possibly record cold of -0 degree temps. Yuk, I didn't ask for that. Anyway, the couple of plus sides to that is less lightning crashes and better DX possibilities for DX'ing on MW and even the LW bands. Our last cold snap last month, Cincinnati's WLW 770AM just walked in here like a local station, when normally I can just hear it in there from where I am in WV. Even those 10W TIS stations should about double their range. The biggest signal improvements were my own Part #15 station of AM1620. In the summer months, I'm lucky to hear that 100mW at 1/2 a mile away, but at sub zero I've heard it over 4 miles. The local AM stations here are about the same. Soil conductivity really sucks here (And I even use brine on my Earth grounds to compensate.), and the weaker 1KW stations just walk in hear good 'n strong when it's super cold, like +6 dB, or better. Any MW pirates planing anything this weekends? Hi-hi... Chances are, you'll get out.
