Radio France to shut down mediumwave broadcasts‏?

I've ripped this from SWLing Post. I've translated the article from francais to English:

Extinguishing medium wave

As of December 31, 2015 24:00, issuers medium wave broadcasting in the Radio France programs permanently cease transmitting. These transmitters broadcast far France Info, France and blue RCFM France Bleu Elsass.

Stopping the broadcast mode on medium wave (at 31 December 2015), provided in the Objectives and Resources Contract for Radio France 2015-2019, aims to adapt the mode of dissemination of our antennas to new uses and technologies today. The broadcast on medium wave, process commissioned between 1937 and 1944, proves indeed obsolete today. This technique is less incorporated into the receptor by manufacturers. The number of listeners to listen to medium wave is now marginal. Stopping the medium wave broadcast mode is also involved in the implementation of the savings plan foreseen in the financial trajectory of Radio France. It will be followed at 31/12/2016 of the judgment of the spread in long waves.

To reach audiences in all territories and expand the audience antennas, Radio France favors an improvement in the distribution of modulation frequencies, FM remained the first mode of consumption of the radio today.

In a context of changing uses (a listener listening on Radio France 7 on a connected media), Radio France is also investing in the distribution of all its channels and programs on all connected devices (smartphones, computers, tablets, TV ....). and offers new services such as Internet radio and mobile applications.

Coverage of listeners France Blue and France Info in areas that were covered by medium wave will be now provided by the FM and Internet (click here for a list of FM transmitters).
