Tell ya what, AM radio here in West Virginia has gotten a recent huge listening audience with the recent events of all the flooding down here. The local AM station in the Capital Region, 580 WCHS, has, and is still, doing constant flood coverage. They have a good 5KW signal and in a car stereo I can pick them up from just about anywhere in the state, if not further. You can also hear them stream at [
580wchs.com] . However, in areas where there's still no power, portable radios are it. There have been trucks with supplies of batteries for, not just flash lights, but to keep powering radios. And the folks most affected out in the floods are not able to watch TV news, so AM / FM radio is it. Interestingly enough, this station doesn't reduce power at night, but manually redirects that 5KW due East. So, if you are in the Carolinas and Virginia you have a good chance to hear this station at night and hear the flood updates from here. Good 'ol AM radio ain't dead, yet.
