A bit late to post this, but during that solar flare event I was trying to listen to Cleveland's 1100 WTAM to listen to C2C AM driving back from work. Instead of the usual MW regional propagation, from about 300 miles, it sounding very much like very distant propagation on the 31M, or 25M, bands with rapid fade and the wowwing effect in the audio. Definitely different propagation for MW.
