Well, I guess that CME hadn't hit here, yet, since around 9:15PM last night. What came blasting in on a Chevy Cruz stereo was this 1580kHz classic rock station playing that artist that sings, "Not A Fool To Do your Dirty Work!", followed by the long-ass Rolling Stones - You Can't Always Get What you Want, then AC/DC - Back In Black. When did it fade? Around 9:30PM, when the station logo came on, but did here the 92.7FM translator FREQ mentioned. Before I got home, another 1580AM came in there playing No Doubt. One thing about Gwen Steffani, you can't mistake her voice. So, this was all around twilight here last night, but I couldn't believe how well that 1580AM came-in.

On drives home, I've been hearing a rocker on 1420AM, but could never catch a Promo, Lingo, or ID, on it. Last night, heard Amboy Dukes, George Thuroughgood And The Delaware Destroyers, Scorpions, Kings Of Leon, then finally an ID that sounded like 1420-, WIMP, Michigan Station. Well, doing a search for that on Radio Locator lead to nothing. So, has anyone else ever heard this?

With nothing else to really listen to on a drive home from work on Thursday night, I tuned-in to 1630AM KCJJ, where I heard the female DJ say that her shift was up in 20min, but could still take a request before-hand, and even gave the local studio PH#. This, being 9:40PM EST / 8:40PM CST. Anyone want to call her up and surprise her of how far she's getting out there on 1630kHz? Sounds like a GEN Z'er, who mainly airs modern hit music of about 15 years ago. So, not only neat to hear an AM station airing music, but to still have a live, non-voice tracked, DJ today.
It's not often that you tune the AM BC Band and hear old-school 1980's metal on a clear-channel, 50kW blow torch, but I've heard this a couple of times while tuning on the W.O.G., from midnight Saturday night / Sunday morning, to 1AM EST. It was Philly's 1210 WPHT airing 'The Week In Music History!', where you heard anything from Y&T live, to Kix, to Stryper, to Keel, and last night ended with The Beattles - Maxwell's Silver Hammer. [radio-locator.com] and [www.audacy.com] Hey!!!! Hearing something like this on a 50kW AM blow-torch is a rare treat indeed. So, I applaud this. I haven't listened to WPHT, since the 1990's, when it was the best station to DX for C2C AM with the then Art Bell. This, may prompt me to listen to them more now on Saturdays at midnight. So, COOL!!!!
UPDATE 8/2/2025: Apparently, this is a 2hrs show, from 11PM - 1AM, EST. Even better!!!! But, you'd think that I'd have the gumption to look-back at the WPHT Saturday night line-ups? Um, no... So, hearing old Sevendust, before midnight, was kind of a clue there. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Pretty much every night, at around 10PM EST, I'm hearing this 1690AM station playing mainly 60's hits, and occasionally a 70's hit. No ID heard, as of yet, but a generic, "Your oldies station!", either by an OM, or a YL. Occasional fading, but most of the time this station dominates.
With deep, long, fades, but heard what sounded like Earth, Wind & Fire, then announcement of 'Signature Radio' followed by old-school Hip-Hop. 1st, heard on a truck stereo, but at home, DSL noise was in there with this. Still, good to hear some activity up there and not the usual NJ TIS pest of a station.

UPDATE 10/28/2023: Heard it again, last night. This time, used the Sangean ATS-803A portable to my W.O.G. antenna. And, just mellow R&B, with a female announcer mentioning 103.5FM W???. So, didn't get that ID, but it sounds like some dude testing an AM transmitter by dumping audio from a local FM station as a test. Yeah, speculating here on that, but that's what it sounds like to me. It did have less fading, but signal was weaker, with DSL garble noise in there. Hmmmm... This weekend might be a neat one for MW pirate listening.

Their 41W was just in there on the truck stereo, and on the WOG on the Xiegu SDR at S10/9. I like that they do tunage, mainly classic pop from 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, Y2K's, and even heard that newer 'I Made You Look' tune, whomever sings that. An ESPN Sports station tries to bowl them over, but WHLN stays in there. Sound quality isn't that wide, and I had 'em on the WOG and the Xiegu SDR rig. Maybe peaking at 70% MOD and not a wide bandwidth. Still, I welcome them jammin' out.

Good to hear them again!

A quick update: Enough snow melted for me to check on the WOG the other day. The above log was made using a whopping FIVE FEET of coax cable for an antenna! Somehow the cable was cut cleanly - the remainder of the WOG is still out there! Now for a few more nice days so I can repair it...

11/10, 1530, 950am, WCTN Potomac/Cabin John MD. They ditched their tropical Spanish music mix for...Brother Scare, oh no! But there he is, droning on and on from the great beyond. 1715 check, WCTN is running open carrier, and then again at 1800. 2150 check, B.S. is back on berating a caller who asks if Obama is the anti-Christ (because he saw it all over the internet), "you cannot know the name of the blah-blah-blah until the tribulation blah-blah-blah which will be 1200 days or so and 30 or 40 days of blah-blah-blah..." 2200, ID "WCTN Cabin John Potomac" on top of B.S. Gone at 2215 as sunset neared and we drove further away from this low budget, 2500/300 watt station very close to D.C.

Unfortunately WCTN 950 also has a repeater, W232DE Potomac MD 94.3fm (not listed on radio-locator and subject to multiple complaints from a co-channel LPFM in Tacoma Park MD); if one is closer to the northwest corner of the DC metro area, B.S. is on there too.
