Well, I guess that CME hadn't hit here, yet, since around 9:15PM last night. What came blasting in on a Chevy Cruz stereo was this 1580kHz classic rock station playing that artist that sings, "Not A Fool To Do your Dirty Work!", followed by the long-ass Rolling Stones - You Can't Always Get What you Want, then AC/DC - Back In Black. When did it fade? Around 9:30PM, when the station logo came on, but did here the 92.7FM translator FREQ mentioned. Before I got home, another 1580AM came in there playing No Doubt. One thing about Gwen Steffani, you can't mistake her voice. So, this was all around twilight here last night, but I couldn't believe how well that 1580AM came-in.

Last night, heard Amboy Dukes, George Thuroughgood And The Delaware Destroyers, Scorpions, Kings Of Leon, then finally an ID that sounded like 1420-, WIMP, Michigan Station. Well, doing a search for that on Radio Locator lead to nothing. So, has anyone else ever heard this?

With nothing else to really listen to on a drive home from work on Thursday night, I tuned-in to 1630AM KCJJ, where I heard the female DJ say that her shift was up in 20min, but could still take a request before-hand, and even gave the local studio PH#. This, being 9:40PM EST / 8:40PM CST. Anyone want to call her up and surprise her of how far she's getting out there on 1630kHz? Sounds like a GEN Z'er, who mainly airs modern hit music of about 15 years ago. So, not only neat to hear an AM station airing music, but to still have a live, non-voice tracked, DJ today.
WPHT 1210kHz 0400 - 0500 UTC, airing old-school 80's metal? Here's why...

It's not often that you tune the AM BC Band and hear old-school 1980's metal on a clear-channel, 50kW blow torch, but I've heard this a couple of times while tuning on the W.O.G., from midnight Saturday night / Sunday morning, to 1AM EST. It was Philly's 1210 WPHT airing 'The Week In Music History!', where you heard anything from Y&T live, to Kix, to Stryper, to Keel, and last night ended with The Beattles - Maxwell's Silver Hammer. [radio-locator.com] and [www.audacy.com] Hey!!!! Hearing something like this on a 50kW AM blow-torch is a rare treat indeed. So, I applaud this. I haven't listened to WPHT, since the 1990's, when it was the best station to DX for C2C AM with the then Art Bell. This, may prompt me to listen to them more now on Saturdays at midnight. So, COOL!!!!
UPDATE 8/2/2025: Apparently, this is a 2hrs show, from 11PM - 1AM, EST. Even better!!!! But, you'd think that I'd have the gumption to look-back at the WPHT Saturday night line-ups? Um, no... So, hearing old Sevendust, before midnight, was kind of a clue there. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...

"At the time of the station's launch (a time when "real oldies" was experiencing a certain degree of revival on the AM dial), the True Oldies Channel featured only music from 1955 to 1969 with less than ten percent from 1970 to 1973 (for example "Tears of a Clown" and "Burning Love"). The format was 60% 1964 to 1969 (the post-British Invasion era) and 40% 1955 to 1963 (the pre-British Invasion rock and roll/doo-wop era). It was the network's original mission to avoid the trends of other oldies outlets and remain committed to the music produced from the beginning of the rock-and-roll era to the disco era (1955 to 1979), .."

I think I've heard them, DX but in there, and it's distinctive with the music, and that they have a kind of muffled sound, not crisp. The spectrum display shows the more narrow audio as well, they don't fill up the allotted 10 khz on each side.

You know what I thought? It was a station using a Comrex on the phone, remember those? We had a station that did high school sports from the stadium and sounded like WHLN. They'd go to break and play pop songs, like David Sanborn, and if the board op back at the station wasn't on the ball or didn't have anything to play, you'd hear a few songs through the Comrex.
Their 41W was just in there on the truck stereo, and on the WOG on the Xiegu SDR at S10/9. I like that they do tunage, mainly classic pop from 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, Y2K's, and even heard that newer 'I Made You Look' tune, whomever sings that. An ESPN Sports station tries to bowl them over, but WHLN stays in there. Sound quality isn't that wide, and I had 'em on the WOG and the Xiegu SDR rig.
Had KCJJ, again, to listen to on a job site commute. And, surprise, the female DJ was live, talking about the 1st tune she heard at the time when 1st working there as a teen in 2015, and then playing it as her choice. (WOW!!! A commercial station that still let´s you do that? That´s rare, today!) Top of the hour ID, CBS News, and local Iowa city, IA news, then back to 10-year-old hit music. Nice, to have this to listen to, again, with it getting darker earlier. [www.1630kcjj.com]

Hearing earlier that Cuba´s power grid was down, I tuned to 1620AM, to see if that station from there, was off-air. Apparently, it seems to be. I hear Pensa Cola, FL and another classic hits station, in there, on the drive home from work. So, those MW , and maybe SW, FREQ´s, that are normally dominated by Cuban station might be freed-up for a few days.

I could never catch the damn ID, but the station has a very mid-FREQ audio response to it, like it's EQ'ed for talk and not music, but music is what's playing. Any clues??? THANKS!!!!
