RW rip: Armstrong Broadcast Returns to New Jersey in June, 42.800MHz FM.

[www.radioworld.com] I'm not likely to be able to hear that here in SW WV. Even with "E" skip, that FREQ will most likely skip over me. However, "E" skip to 600 - 1,000 miles could be the sweet-spot to hear this. Locally, NY, CT, NJ, and E. PA, could hear this with a scanner, or VHF TV, antenna, or even a 6M antenna, for like 100 miles out. With many companies and municipalities abandoning the VHF Low Band, you would be very likely to hear this station, even if it comes-in weak, where you are. What's nice about 42.800MHz is that it can penetrate into rough terrain and less affected by thick tree foliage. However, the reason it was abandoned for broadcasting in the first place was due to F2 and "E" skip. Those early broadcasts on 42MHz had reports from around the world. Anyway, sounds like fun. According to Bill Tilford, Ilse Of Music, he suspects the interference to WBCQ's 4790kHz could be HF CODAR. Well, if that is indeed coming from out West, then at night, when near 4.8MHz goes long, would make sense. Any comments on this? [www.codar.com] and [en.wikipedia.org]

And, one more time! 4790kHz AM, Saturday night, Feb. 19th, 10:00PM, or Sunday 03:00UTC. Same show, The Underground Jam. At that time, the West Coast USA, Mexico, and Canada, should be had, and possibly South America and Western Europe. Eh... Where the band Master is from in Moscow, that will be about dawn, so it may go that far. I suspect that at that time, 10PM EST, 4790kHz might skip over West Virginia, but you'll never know. The Southern States and the Caribbean should be had as well. Happy DX'ing!!!!

(CORRECTION!!!!!!!!! 2/16/2022) The ops at WBCQ asked if I can do 10PM EST. So, for those over in Europe, and Africa, that could actually work-out better.

Did it. Bought time on the new FREQ 4790kHz, Saturday, February 12th, 9PM EST, or 02:00UTC. (Not Bro Staire.) Also, bought an hour for the following weekend of 2/19-20/2022, but that time has yet to be sched and TBA.

The main transmitter for the 3265 service is offline. It is the same model as the original 7415/7490 transmitter that burnt up because a long-term degradation of the plenum system. They aren't going to put this rig back online until a new plenum can be built. So, anything done on 3265 is using an auxiliary transmitter and is only used for experimental and test transmissions at this time.

There is also some antenna work that needs to be done for optimal operations down as low as 3265.

4790 is the transmitter that was formerly on 5130 and is ready to go.

Should have very similar propagation characteristics as WWV's 5MHz, and the 5-Channel 60M Amateur Radio Band, nice regional daytime coverage, and Coast to Coast coverage at night. Huh... From what I gather, 7490kHz went way long SAT evening, and skipped over most of the NE USA and Canada, but may have reached the Caribbean and E. South American countries. I guess, time will tell.

I've wanted a 2nd run of the corrected The Underground JAM, so when a spot opened, I'm hopping on it. So, back on WBCQ, 7490kHz AM, Saturday, December 4th, 7PM - 8PM EST, or 00:00UTC - 01:00UTC. Now, if we can get those solar flares to stay away. Hopefully, propagation at the time should favor Europe and Russia, to the East, and I'd suspect regional, Eastern Canada and USA. HAPPY DX'ing!!!! 770am WABC xmitter maintenance 11pm tonight

The station has announced that at 11pm today they will be off air to work on the station transmitter. They do not know when they will finish the work but hopefully it will take most of the night. That should allow DXers a nice amount of time to see what they can hear. KKOB Albuquerque, New Mexico 50K at night is one possibility.

Let's keep these CME's away from ruining propagation on WBCQ's 7490kHz AM on, (What would be Sunday Oct. 3'rd, evening 9PM EST.), world-time Monday Oct. 4th, 01:00 UTC. Heavy metal fans will love this one, as The Underground JAM finally comes around to review the new Master album, (Released February 2020. Yeah... I'm way late here.). Last year was the teaser track Peacemaker, but this time around, you get to hear that in Espanol. To follow along, goto this link, [archive.org] If you really want to follow along, there's an e-script to read / download. And, surprise... A very familiar snail mail drop will again be used for those whom are not on-line, or just off-grid. Now, has a special QSL card been made up for this? Um, no... So, still figuring out what to do there. So, if you have a good wide-band AM receiver, then get it out Sunday night for this. WFME 1560AM signs off frequency today.

Now is the time to look for DX on the 1560 freq if WFME was a problem for DXing in the past. I'm hearing two stations on 1560 now, 5:13 PM, but both are mostly unintelligible. When one of the signals finally got stronger I heard a "Today's Country, 102.9, WKIK" ID. Signal is decent but fades out quite a bit a times.

"102.9 WKIK - WKIK is a broadcast radio station in Mechanicsville, Maryland, United States, providing Top 40 Adult Contemporary and Oldies Country music."

Last week I tuned in to WFME and things seemed normal until I heard that they were working on finding a new site for their xmitter operations. On Sunday 2/14, they were playing a looped msg stating the station would be off air shortly and they were looking for a new site (or maybe a station up for sale they could make use of) and get back on air to the NY metro market. As of 10 AM this morn' the signal is gone.

Someone posted on the RadioDiscussion forum that the site had been purchased for an industrial park and FR may have made a ton of money on the deal (confirmed?/unconfirmed?). "Family Radio bought the station for 12.95 million, and they sell the tower site for 51 million."

Can't blame them, nice profit. Don't know what they plan for the future or if anyone is selling a ready to go station in the area. Takes time to find the land and build from scratch. Buying what someone else no longer wants allows a quick return to the air, which is what Toms Evans, FR prez, seemed to be saying during his on air talks about the station last week. They used to be in West Orange, NJ and pushed a decent signal to NY with the 94.7FM freq they had. I would think their Philly 950AM station can cover West & South NJ, so a NJ station might make more sense to cover NJ & NY.
